All Welcome

When Hydra and her sisters had left the Moonspear on their expedition to find her paramour all those weeks ago, Kavos had been left there unaware and uncertain without her presence to guide him. He found no comfort in her parents -- who were otherwise occupied with children he personally wanted nothing to do with -- nor had he found any interest in himself for the remaining members he'd never associated with. Without the duty of the Cerberus to abide by, he found himself wandering again, and it was probably with little surprise to the Ostrega kin that the young wolf had gone from their stead before they had returned from their long excursion to the midlands.

Kavos didn't mind being alone. He ate just as well and felt particularly stressfree without the burden of others weighing upon him -- but the loneliness was not to be abated. And this was by far the most difficult part of his solitude.

At Gyrfalcon's Keep, he found himself remembering things he couldn't possibly care about. The shrieking birds in the late afternoon reminded him of a time he had passed this way with his mother. He remembered his curiosity for the rocky hill ahead, but he'd never been allowed to explore it before and had not seen it since. He saw now what a useless and noisy place it was, and because he held no love for any sharp-beaked bird of prey, Kavos sought to skirt it.

She’d gotten a little turned around in the bay. Happy to be in a place she once called home, she can’t deny the feeling of emptiness it once held. Her mother and father are no longer there holding down their claim and she realized just anyone can walk through and interfere with whatever they wanted to do. Even with @Silas with her most of the time, her former home definitely lacked the feeling it once had. There’s nothing there to keep her contained near the coast and if she gets too far, she finds her lack of direction a little confusing and she ends up somewhere she never meant to be.

Tension settles in her jaw without realizing as the sound of screeching birds fills her thoughts so much she can barely think of anything else. Her ears press back against her head and she glances up, trying to find the source of the sound but there’s little to offer in sight as most are hidden in the nooks of the mountain. Occasionally, one will soar of her head but the sound does not follow them and she continues through with anxiety building in her chest. Every so often she looks over her shoulder should her companion be following her but he’s never there, his scent long gone and unable to find.

When she spins her head back around, a wisp of white catches her attention and she knows it is not her friend. Or anyone she knows, really, for a coat so pale does not trigger a single memory. One ear twitches and she lowers her head, her feet continue to take her closer and closer until he’s fully into view but she does not speak or otherwise indicate her presence.

Though his ears were occupied by the cries of birds, Kavos noticed from the corner of his eye something dark-furred and wolf-shaped. Naturally, his first thought was that Hydra had found him. He turned almost eagerly, but the wag of his tail is staved slightly when he realized that navy eyes had been replaced by silvery ingots, and confusion took his expression away for a moment. He lifted his nose curiously, smelling little else but salt and sand, but also the distinct scent of a stranger.

Still, his blood sang for him to seek company, even in the face of someone he doesn't know, so he came closer; his tail ticking slowly back and forth as he tried to ascertain her receptiveness to him. His ears pressed forward, and he left several wolflengths between them so that she might decide for herself if she wanted to stay and let him approach, or turn away from him.

The other acknowledges her presence in a similar way. A few steps forward. Hesitant. His tail moves slightly, in the same way as hers, and doesn’t say anything either. Qilaq’s features soften and her posture becomes loose when she realizes he’s not going to hurt her. He does not bare the coat of the wolf that she’d been so afraid of once, a wolf she barely remembers anyway but has come to hold a fear for anyway. Her dark tail swishes back and forth a few times and she inches closer, shortening the distance between them.

She stands there awkwardly for several seconds, looking him over, before she smiles and takes the last few strides to greet him. Her back arches a little so that her tail sweeps the ground, lifting her nose to bump at his chin and lick him affectionately—as a friend might when they’ve been apart for months—and she closes her eyes, enjoying the sudden closeness of another.

As their individual hesitancy ebbed away on the wind, it's the girl that surprisingly finishes the distance between them. Kavos -- even with all his reserves of mistrust and the experiences of his short life that had led him to believe he was better off alone -- was still just a lonely boy at his core. He feared very little because he knew no pain, and company, however fleeting, would be welcome with him as long as it was welcome to him. He took her affection hesitantly at first, unsure perhaps of the conflicting emotions clouding his thoughts, but he did not shy from it or refuse it; and after a beat, he even decided to return it.

His tongue lashed across her muzzle, an eager whine spilling over her prone expression as he tasted the brine of saltwater that clung to her fur. Kavos' tail began to wag more fiercely, and a sudden insistence that they become closer overwhelms him instinctively. The boy nudged her excitedly, and fell into a playbow, eager now to chase or be chased.

It takes a beat before he relaxes into the affection, something she’s used to. Most don’t know how to react. Even Silas had a stiff reaction when she first greeted him at the river several months ago. Eventually he eases into it and even returns the affection enough that she keeps her eyes closed and presses into him. No longer does she have the comfort of her family and she isn’t entirely sure where her companion had gone but she’s content with what she’s found in the pale boy.

When he pulls away, her eyes fly open and she flinches as he jumps to the ground in a playful bow. Qilaq wrinkles her nose a little before she closes the distance again, this time her front legs buckling as she mauls over his front half with several licks to his face before she attempts to try and wrestle him further to the ground.

Because it wasn't in the true nature of wolves to hurt one another, Kavos found himself falling rather easily into the instinct of play with the moon-eyed sprite. It felt as natural to him as hunting, and he craved the attention nearly as much. A neglectful mother had made him calloused towards the concept of affection, even if he privately wanted it more than anything right now, but he wasn't immune to the call of it. And because he had not interacted in some time, he felt he needed to get from her what he could before he wound up alone again for another full moon.

His skewered views could also explain his readiness to spend their time together in a less gentle manner, as opposed to merely grooming or fawning over each other's faces. And equally as probable as a preference for violence, was the fact that he was a teenaged boy; plagued by inoperable surges of testosterone that made him naturally predisposed him to roughhousing.

He buckled beneath her, hardly able to feel her feathery limbs as she battered him, but he relented to her at any rate. She mauled him gently (not that he would have noticed even if she'd drawn blood) and he responded after a bout of this by wrestling himself quite easily from under her, and charging away from the noisy hill in an effort to have her pursue him.

He ends up on the ground beneath her and she latches on to anything she can. Each mouthful is gentle, an occasional tug if anything, and she rolls over when he’s on the ground without caring too much where she lands. In a tangle of legs, she ends up losing her grip on him and he slips out from beneath her. She falls into a mess on the ground, scraping her face on the ground to find him as he darts away and she remains there for several seconds in debate. The desire not to lose him wins over and she scrambles without grace to her feet and bounds in his direction on uncoordinated limbs.

Her tongue falls out the side of her mouth and she can’t close the distance between them, him surging forward ahead of her. As her legs tire and her energy wanes, she still keeps on the move as best she can even as the space grows bigger and bigger.

He would be surprised to find that she wasn't as quick as the creatures that are typically as slight and limber as she. Her run was rather ungainly, and when he turned an eye over his shoulder to mark her progress, he found that there was an incredible gap between them, growing larger every bound he took. The adolescent slowed and then stopped completely, letting the distance fall away as the panting girl reached him again. Something about the events might have unsettled an older wolf, but Kavos was focused almost entirely on his enjoyment and how pleased he felt that she had even followed at all. Nothing besides this seemed to matter to him in that moment.

But the true predator in his bones bid that he take advantage of the girl's weakness; so in the spirit of continuing their game, he whirled on her the moment she had come close enough, and tempestuously sought to bowl her over and wrestle again.

Much to her surprise, her new companion comes to a stop and allows her to catch up. Again, her nose wrinkles and her tail waves back and forth for the consideration and she lets out a soft laugh as she finally closes the distance between them. Her jaws open as if she’s going to say something but not a sound comes out, realizing he has coming back to her instead of running away. Thank goodness. Unsure what to expect, she doesn’t much prepare herself and leaves herself open for a similar affection they shared several minutes ago.

However, he does not stop and offer her a few kisses; instead, he uses all his weight to crash into her. A surprised yelp slips out of her muzzle but it does not deter her, even if she is tired, but he whirls around to try and grip a mouthful of extra flesh in response. It does not take much to put her on the ground either and she wiggles beneath him, limbs flailing around them and a bout of giggles escape her breathlessly. Qilaq squirms beneath him, trying to right herself once more so that she can be on top again!

Her giggling delighted Kavos, urging him further to snuffle and press his muzzle immodestly into every patch of her midnight-ink fur he could reach. He might have chewed on her too, but because he lacked a natural sense of expression and otherwise believed that his teeth were only to be used if he wanted to eat something, he kept his mouth shut. The last thing he wanted was to hurt this girl, let alone treat her like a meal.

She was almost startlingly easy to overpower, though he was probably using a lot more force than was required. Hydra had been small too, but she was built with a warrior's constitution and playing with her had been like trying to wrangle and mold bricks. This girl was more like puddy -- soft, morphing, and pliant -- and Kavos relished in the power he felt over her in that moment. But he wasn't trying to dominate her. He liked being stronger, but he liked their game more than that.

He let her wriggle out of his playfully desperate grasp, and he groan-whines as she takes the top of their two-wolf dogpile once more. He rolled on his back in the warm dirt, and pushed her cherubic face away with his large, flat paws.

The game is easy and freeing. It is different from Silas but she does not mind. Kavos is younger than both of them, not that she knows it, and he does not (or has chosen not to) speak. It makes it easy on the girl, often confused and troubled by social interaction. He simply lets her be her and she does not have to worry or stress her simple mind too much.

She feels each pressure he applies to her, gentle and carefree, like two litter mates but a few months old romping outside the family den. A long lost brother, perhaps.

When she succeeds in getting on top again, it surprises her to have two large feet shoved in her first. For the first time in (very likely) a long time, she rumbles a low but playful growl. Her silver eyes narrow, trying to find a way around them but she comes up short. Instead, she takes one of them in her mouth and applies a little pressure and when an opening arises, she lays her body across his chest. Once the law is released from her ferocious grip, she drops her snout and lathers his face in kisses between giggles.

If he could identify the sensations he felt in his foot as she chewed on it, Kavos might have found that he was ticklish. Either way, he found that his technique proved ineffective against her, as she quickly wormed her way between his assailing paws and made contact with his face again. She lavished him with a seawave of affection he was completely unused to and felt further unsure of how to handle. His throat vibrated with growling groans, making him sound more like a disgruntled puppy than a wolf who truly didn't appreciate the attention.

He stretched his neck up and tossed his head back, beginning to shimmy his body in an attempt to squirm away from the reach of her prying kisses while still keeping on his back. He didn't want to just toss her off, but escaping this way wasn't a particularly easy task. Eventually he had to resort to rolling her over in an effort to gain control of the situation again.

She wrinkles her nose as he wiggles beneath her, hearing his growls as nothing but playful, and finds herself lost in the fray of gangling limbs and the lost lives of children. By the time she realizes he’s squirming his way from beneath her, it is far too late, and she tumbles off to the side with his encouragement. She lands in a heap, eyes refocusing to watch him from the ground without getting up. A low rumble starts in her throat again and she gives him a high-pitched yip of excitement as she huffs, flailing her front legs in his direction.

The argent-eyed blackbird flopped over easily enough, and Kavos wormed his way over her flailing limbs and blanketed her with his long, heavy body. Returning the favor she's just dealt him, he dragged his muzzle up along her shoulder and began to bathe her chin, cheek, and the ear he could reach with a prying tongue and nipping teeth. After a moment he just snorted and stilled, letting his weight settle on her as he forgot everything else but the squirming, breathing young body he'd happily trapped beneath him. He'd lay on her forever if she let him, though surely the position couldn't be too comfortable for her.

Behind him his tail flopped like a fish without his bidding, a feeling of contentment washing over and through him, deeper than he'd ever felt before.

Their positions mirror how they were a moment before and she squirms, trying to fight the bathing of kisses and nibbles to her face. Her nose wrinkles and she wiggles, groaning and growling her way through the onslaught by her newest friend. When he comes too still, she gathers her attention and swings her head, looking up at him with wonder in her eyes. There are so few wolves Qilaq feels so comfortable around that she wants to hold this boy close to her chest and never let him go. She wants to take him by the paw and lead him all the way to Silas and show him off, wants to take the two of them all the way back to where her parents have settled and stay there forever where it is safe.

She swallows a small lump in her throat and gives him a smile, booping her nose gently against his and settling in the position despite the lack of comfort.
