All Welcome
What a weird dream - vegetables couldn't talk, and they definitely could sing. Easy shook the snow from her pelt and looked around at her snoozing packmates, wondering what they were dreaming about. Not everyone was there sleeping, of course, but Daddy and a few others had all taken their twilight nap at the same time. Maybe if they all laid together and thought really hard about each other, they'd be able to get into each others dreams?

She contemplated that for a moment, but quickly decided that she had better things to do than actually try to go to sleep. So, Easy padded toward a lump she thought might be that new boy, Burr. "Burr," she said softly, shooting her father's slumbering form a worried look. Ever since he'd gotten hurt, Easy had felt kind of weird around him. She felt better when he was asleep, and she could pretend that he still had both his eyes. "Burr, is that you?" she whispered, drawing closer. "Are you awake?"

Burr slept a lot. In his dreams, Cyron and Rowana were still with him in Easthollow, and Mawk and Illecebra had never had to leave. As far as Burr knew, in the waking world, none of them had ever returned. They could all be dead, leaving him the last remaining Saefyn in the wilds, and he would never be any wiser. But when he slumbered, he went back to a world where Cyron had never been taken, where their parents had never left on a fool's errand to retrieve him, and Rowana had never disappeared without a trace.

He was reimagining the day that he gave Cyron his kingfisher feather, blue as a gemstone and sleek in the light, when a voice beckoned to him from far beyond his dream world. No, he thought dreamily, this is home, I'm home already. He wanted to protest, but the sun was calling his name, and try as he might, he couldn't keep his eyes away. He did his very best to stay focused on Cyron, but it felt like a string was attached to the back of his head, pulling it inexorably upward. He looked to the sun, squinting...

...and snorted loudly as he jerked awake, followed immediately by a long, drawn out hiss of pain as he smacked his injured ankle against the ground. His tear-limned eyes snapped open as he thumped his good forepaw against the floor, attempting to distract himself from the throbbing in his other ankle, and peered blearily around until his gaze locked on Easy, who asked him a quiet question. He'd probably woken others with his little tirade, but Burr was heedless of how disruptive he was being when he snorted again and replied, "I am now!"

"Shhhh!" Easy insisted, moving closer to the boy so that they could speak more quietly. She tried to press her shoulder against his, like she'd do with anyone in her family. She'd only just met Burr, but he was In the Pack, and that made him family, right? "We gotta be quiet so Daddy can rest up and get better," she explained, not realizing that her father was now wide-awake beside Catori, grumbling into her fur.

Easy regarded the older boy with measuring eyes for a moment. She'd woken him and he'd sort of snapped at her, but maybe if she made real big eyes at him, she'd be forgiven? "Are you mad, now?" she asked, not quite sure her eyes were working.

Easy's hiss came harsh to his ears, which pressed back with a mixture of affront and surprise. By then, Grayday was shifting near the back of the rendezvous site, and Burr wanted nothing more than to put his head down and pretend he hadn't done anything wrong. Easy wasn't about to let him off that easy (pun intended), though. Her explanation came in a hushed rush that made him shoot a glance toward the grizzly pack leader. "Why?" he whispered back, having not caught on to the fact that Grayday's missing eye hadn't been so absent a short while ago.

A yawn cut his jaws wide, and by the time he clicked them back together, the dark-coated she-cub had fixed him with a wide-eyed, appeasing look. If possible, Burr snatched his ears even further back and wondered, "whaaaaat're you doing?" Rowana had never made such a face at him. Cyron sometimes looked like that, but as much as he loved his brother, he knew the boy was a crybaby at heart. Easy didn't strike him as the same sort, so it was strange coming from her. Her question was even stranger; he didn't know how angry he'd managed to come off. "Huh? I'm not mad? You just scared me."

Speaking of which... "what'd you want, anyway?"

She waited patiently while Burr got his wits about him, not wanting to further irritate him. It was surprising to hear him claim to have been frightened by her, but she quickly deduced that he'd probably just been startled - words were funny that way. But since he didn't seem angry or anything, Easy went ahead and climbed into his space, attempting to curl up into a warm pup-ball with him.

"Do you want to try and get into each other's dreams?" she whisper-talked. It didn't make her voice any softer, but her 'S's were more sibilant and carried further.
