Silver Moraine Race you to the bottom!

Lone Wolves

She'd crossed a number of rivers, spent a few hours navigating a spit of maple trees in the snow, and came upon the rocky hillside with less energy than she'd have wanted. The stones were a mess! They were everywhere, every size, and Jubilee knew just by looking at them that her adventure had taken a horrendously slow turn. How would she ever reunite with Revolver at this rate? Maybe it would be better to double back and retrace her steps? It was entirely possible that the boy was following her and not the other way around; she was thinner, smaller, faster, even if he had all that gorgeous brawn and lustrous fur -- for a few minutes Jules was lost in her thoughts of him, and didn't realize she'd traipsed right across the moraine until she came to an impasse of boulders that rivaled anything she'd ever seen before. With a gasp she turned around, only to be met with a darkening of the sky and a violently cold winter wind; the bluster of which pushed her against the boulders sidelong, and did not abate until she'd ducked against the earth. By the time the wind had stopped she felt breathless and wildly out-of-place, and didn't know what to do next. Snow would be on the way soon - a fresh batch - and she couldn't be caught out in the open like this.

After departing from the selfish woman and her thrice-damned hare, Revolver had continued his search for his lady love. They'd had such little time together, but each heart-throbbing second had been glorious. The thrill of independance, the allure of a pretty woman, the excitement of first love, the wonder of the wide, wild world... All good things, and all associated with a white-tipped nose, lavender eyes, and thickly-furred, red-velvet ears. Jubilee.

The male gives an airy sigh even as the weight of his worries begins to wear on him. It's been too long - almost three days since they'd lost sight of each other in that storm. It should've been just a quick moment of panic, but it'd stretched on far longer than the male had ever imagined it might.

She had been the lone constant in his new life - the whole point of it, actually - and now she was gone.

Feeling dejected and a little frightened, Revolver picked his way into the gully with his head hung low; and thus, did not see the very girl he was so desperate to reunite with.

The girl tried to climb the smaller stones like a staircase, just to get atop the larger boulders and get a good look around. She slipped partway up and felt her torso slide; she braced herself and jumped, her paws clattering across the shale deposit and loosening pieces in the process. The slope shifted beneath her miniscule weight and she, letting out a shout, stumbled until her momentum settled. Jubilee's body smacked against the solid rock jutting from the snow - and then tumbled a little further, hitting something soft and pliable without realizing it was Revolver, of all people.

It was a scent, at first, and then a clatter of stones. Revolver looked up just in time to see a tawny shape sailing toward him, but before he could hail her, their bodies had tangled together and tumbled the rest of the way to the gully's floor. For a moment, the male could not even draw breath past the pain blossoming all over his body. However, when he could finally gasp fresh, winter air into his lungs, he expelled it just as quickly with a joyful shout,

"Jubee!"

He attacked her with all the affection he had left in his body - which was quite a bit, considering he'd been on his own for three whole days. Her face was covered liberally with kisses, and he grabbed her in a chokehold to thrust his hips halfheartedly into hers. "Where've you been, you bad girl?" he growled, halfway between playful and furious. He might've yelled, but his body was too sore and tired to hold any real amount of anger, so he settled for flopping to his side and fixing her with an accusing stare.

They tumbled as a mess of limbs, flashing gold and gray and white and -- then they stilled for a moment and the stones calmed. He was shouting, up-and-at-'em so fast that Jubilee's mind couldn't stop spinning. She felt his slobbery kisses and the bump of his hips against hers and let out a giggle, which turned in to boisterous laughter and filled the hollows between the stones. She shoved him with her stilted limbs just in time for his slouching roll, and then hoisted herself to her feet.

His glare was met with a grin and the whirlwind of her luxurious tail. Oh, can it you little shit. You know how long I was huntin' for you? Yeek! You'd think someone as fat as you would be an easy mark! Her tone was filled with laughter too, her eyes wrinkling at the corners as she chided him, lurched forwards and smothered him with her reaching forearms. I'm a bad girl? Pfft -- well, yeah, but that's why you love me~! Her pale eye-dots lifted in a wiggle then, and she buried her too-long snout into his too-thick scruff.

"Ah, shit!" Revolver yawned, stretching his back and grinning as it cracked in several different places. This girl would be the death of him. When she came closer running that pretty mouth of hers, he reached out with his well-muscled legs and yanked her down onto his chest. "That's right - come to daddy," he crooned, nibbling at one of her tall, feathery ears.

"Love you," he huffed, rolling to his side so that he could cuddle her properly. (Read: hold her down) "I was so worried about you," he said in a rough voice, hoping his voice by her ear would lead to some lovin'. He was pretty starved for attention after three entire days without her. What would he have done if they'd never found each other again?

Her laughter didn't stop; it bubbled out of her like an endless fount of joy and when he tugged her close, she resisted for only a few minutes before letting him do what he pleased. She rolled with him straddling her and pressed herself against him like a cat - Oh yeah? How worried?

This was a game Jubilee loved to play. She'd always done it - met strangers, played with them, left them. Somehow the two miscreants had become stuck to one another by some kind of bond and she hadn't quite given up on the fun of it all, despite having lured him away from his life.

The girl wiggled some more and grinned, but then her belly gurgled and she stopped laughing. Oi, she bucked a little and slid away from him hastily and shot a look back at him, You find any grub around here? Must have something to show for our little detour -- the girl sniffed the air as she spoke but couldn't taste anything except stone and ice within the air.

Revolver's ears flew back at the sound of her hunger. Instantly, he felt on-edge. Some of their worst fights happened when one of them was hungry, and it seemed like they were both in that zone.

"No," he said gruffly, standing and shaking the dust from his pelt. He avoided Jubilee's gaze, thinking of the rabbit he'd failed to steal from that little shewolf a few hours ago. If he'd known how quickly he'd find Jubilee again, he'd've put up more of a fight for it. Now, though, he had nothing to show for his time away. "What about you? Have you eaten since we took that doe from the buzzards?"

It'd only been a few hours before the were separated, but it felt like an eternity. There hadn't been much left on that carcass, anyway.

"We're gonna have to find something pretty soon. Did you pick up any trails? Maybe we could find a pack again..." His eyes darted toward her and then quickly away. They'd been together for some time, now, but he still felt self-conscious when he suggested thievery. It had been something of a taboo back home, but she seemed nonchalant enough about it.

Figures - boys were truly useless. His admission was met with a little tsk and a roll of her eyes, and gave him no response to his idiotic question. There was a momentary glare though, kind of like she was saying, are you serious? Of course she was starving right now, they'd eaten together like they always arranged and there had been nothing else.

Sure, okay, leave it to me - I guess it's my job as the woman to do all the work, right? The tone of her voice had gone from giddy to scathing and she stalked along the rocks, kicking loose bits of debris out of her way as she went.

He hurried after her, shame and irritation warring in the pit of his stomach. She knew he was new to all this - he'd always been given meals before meeting her, and he was adjusting, and damnit, she was better at it than he was! He wanted to snap at her, but he didn't want to test her bad mood.

"C'mon, baby, you know that's not what I mean," he wheedled, nibbling at the juncture of her hip and her spine - one of her sweet spots, he was pretty sure. "You just have a better nose than me. You just find 'em and I'll chase 'em off, alright?"

He snaked up her body and nuzzled behind her ear. "I'm sorry I lost you. Forgive me?"

Jubilee had him wrapped around her little finger -- or her tail -- or well, whatever the wolf equivalent was, who cares. But she was still hungry and his weak promises and attempts to calm her only made her more irritable. He tried nibbling at her and while that usually worked, Jules wasn't about to succumb to his charms right now - she lifted a leg as if she were to scratch her belly with it, or kick him, but he was already moving to her ear.

Just stop Rev, stop it. We gotta eat right so lets get a move on - haul that ass of yours outta here. She picked up the pace and with a whisk of her tail tried to smuck him in the nose - only to chortle to herself and take off running.

He could feel it - her smug attitude. If he weren't so tired and hungry, he might've argued further. That's what he told himself, at least. As it was, when she took off running, Revolver stubbornly refused to chase after her. Instead, he began sniffing around, hoping he'd be able to track something down and then rub it in her pretty white nose.

Thankfully, magically, incredibly, he actually found something.

"Ju!" he shouted, tail beginning to wag already. He headed off in a direction almost parallel to hers, but veered off-course to follow the thickening scent of decay. There was a bad wind blowing, and everything smelled like frost and stone to the mixed wolf, but he knew there was food around here, somewhere. "I think I smell something," he told her, hinting that now might be a good time to get her perky hindquarters into gear. But he couldn't say that, because she'd be angry at him. And also because he really needed her in order to find out where this disgusting (delectable) smell was coming from.

And when has your nose ever been reliable? She snarked with a small huff, as if redirecting on his whim is the most difficult thing in the world.

But, after a few sneaking glances and quiet sniffles, she found a faint trace of disease on the air. Maybe not that exactly, but a pungent aroma that she'd learned to equate with a meal - but it shifted with the wind, seemed weak and watery from the snow. It bothered Jubilee to ever consider Rev right at any point, but she was also far too hungry to let her pride get in the way of food.

Yeah, yeah I think you're... Nah, she wouldn't say it; but the shine in her eyes completed that sentence just as she wheeled away from him, going charging across the shale and snow. She stopped a few lengths later and spiraled, testing the air again, and shot him a look - Well come on, we don't have all day to find this thing.

With their luck it'd be something exceptionally vile, likely trapped beneath the rubble of stonework and mostly frozen.

Hoping to impress and placate Jubilee with a show of strength, Revolver trotted over and began digging through the snow, ice, and rubble. His paws were tough, even though they were a bit sore from walking, and his legs were strong. If he could just keep going, if he could hold on a little longer...

A weasel came tearing out of a juncture between the rocks. Revolver made a snap at it and missed before becoming distracted by the source of the food-smell. The weasel had been hiding near the half-crushed, half-eaten body of a possum.

Revolver wrinkled his nose and offered the meal silently to Jubilee, knowing he'd never hear the end of it if he ate before her.

The weasel tore away from its hiding spot and Rev missed it, but so did Jubilee even though her mind shot a wicked, 'useless piece of --' but her snapping snout came close to the critter's retreating tail and missed entirely. She, flustered, made a bestial noise as she skid upon the rocks and rebounded for Revolver's position.

Then, when he prompted her with a look, she took one glance at that nasty ass possum and her brows raised. Ah hell no, man. You can have that. That's all you, boo. Like hell if she was going to touch that thing, no matter how hungry she thought she was. Keep your stamina up, baby, hmm? she smirked at him with a sardonic little expression that turned sour fast, and then turned again to prepare for departure.

What did she know about stamina? He was the one doing all the work. All the running, all the digging, and all the loving. "Just eat the fucking possum, JB," he snapped, tail standing straight out from his body. "What are you waiting for? Kibbles'n'bits?"

He glared at the shewolf, inwardly cursing himself for picking a fight. But she was going to ream him later on for eating when she hadn't, and honestly, he'd rather get the fighting out of the way while he still had some stamina left. At least he could say he'd put up a fight, and if she was still salty about it later on, well, maybe he was getting tired of her, anyway.

But probably not.

Mature Content Warning

This thread has been marked as mature. By reading and/or participating in this thread, you acknowledge that you are of age or have permission from your parents to do so.

The participants have indicated the following reason(s) for this warning: nasty dead thing

She knew it would be a bad call to avoid food, not that she was actively avoiding it but -- well -- that wasn't food. Sure Jules knew to avoid being picky, but she didn't have any interest in something that far gone. What rankled her mood even further was his commentary - mostly because it didn't mean jack shit to her and the girl always liked being the smartest, slyest bitch around.

Quit yappin', ain't you hungry? She knew he was. Just like she knew that thing was too dessicated to be of use to either of them. They were fighting over nothing (as per usual) and the more he talked, the more she wished for space away from him - yet inevitably, the golden girl drew closer and closer to the remains. She sighed and ducked to grab at some part of the carcass, and then with limbs braced among the stones, she pulled back.

There was a crackling as ice gave way, a weird wet sound, and all of a sudden the possum slipped loose like it had been coated in oil. The blood in its body had become so oxidized that it was black and so, as she carried away her chunk (it looked like the hindquarters of the animal maybe, with some spine and some liquified organs dribbling across her chest) a line of pure nasty followed after her.

Not to appear weak before her boyfriend, she tossed the sloppy chunks against the rocks and then lunged for it - picking at it all with her teeth like the ravenous animal that she was. Thank the powers that be her tastebuds weren't too strongly developed.

The male felt a bit sick at the renewed scent of rot that came off the animal. It was mostly liquefied hair and bone by the look of it, and probably not nutritious enough to be worth the stomachache. Instantly, regret began to burn in the pit of his stomach. (Or maybe bile. That thing was rank.)

"Let's get out of here," said Revolver, subdued. They'd find some real food, get a good night's sleep, and everything would be better in the morning.

Most of the creature was left untouched but she did what she could to pick apart the more solid areas. It would remain a stain upon the earth from there on out - a black mess so rotten that even the ravens wouldn't want to touch it. Jubilee pulled away as Rev spoke and glared at him, but she didn't say a word. Her tongue was busy cleaning debris from her snout (she'd probably bully him later to help clean the rest of her coat) but her long strides would make swift work of the rest of the moraine.
