It was early morning when the boy entered the forest-- too soon for the sun to wake, but he didn’t mind.
It was almost a wonderland. Tears of red glinted from the sides of sequoias that seemed to span into infinity, a sharp contrast from the stark white snow caking around their bases. Alarian sniffed at the substance, nosed it, and found it to be hard but slightly sticky-- it smelled organic, like tree and nature and bitter. He wrinkled his nose, deciding it was better to look at than to smell.
For a moment the boy wasn't certain what to do with himself; alone in a dark forest, what was he to do?
He sniffed deeply, turned to the largest tree he saw, and pissed on it.

the sun made its steady ascent from below the horizon and once more reigi was forging her way to something macabre.  long fingers of light fondled their way between the trees, casting halos down the red sap that was leaking down the trunks and bleeding down into the snow.

it was quiet, a phantom forest, and only the sound of her own crunching footfalls reverberated between the trees.

but soon there was something else, and the pungent whiff of urine betrayed them, leg lifted to mark on the tree although the creature looked almost female.

she reveals herself with a chuff, forcing her ears forward in curiosity.

He turned at the sound, spotting a slender, angular female. Immediately it crossed the boy's mind that she was pretty-- he had never felt attracted to a female before, but her features were oddly appealing to him. He approached quickly, tail wagging, and dropped his front half to the ground playfully, butt still waving in the air.
Hey! Alarian was excited to find a possible new friend in this wondrous place, but he almost always spoke softly. Wanna play?
He rolled over onto his back and snorted, eyes bright, hoping she would take the invitation.

she didn't understand his words but eagerly embraced his gestures, spine arching into an elegant play-bow as her tail sickled over her rear, wagging softly.  she was not used to being greeted with such eager kindness, and though she held up some air of caution, she barked in invitation.

quickly, she began running circles around him, vocalizing the entire time, panting inbetwen.  she darted close once, twice, nipping at his heels and tail.
