Otter Creek Do unto others

All Welcome
The edges of the creek were frozen, but Kaevo could hear the soft rush of water in the current bellow  the  ice. Despite the winter chill there seemed to be plenty of life here. She knew what an otter was, although she had never seen one with her own eyes. They darted along the bank, occasionally dipping their paws into the icy water in search of the trout hiding  beneath, totally unaware of the dark predator watching  them. They were so fat, and so full of energy, that Kaevo was half jealous of them and half longing to sink her fangs  into the fatty flesh. They were cute creatures, but they also looked delicious.

With a soft sigh Kaevo flopped onto  her belly, big paws outstretched. Her mind whirled with plans  as she tried to determine the best  way to capture one of the slippery ,  adorable  creatures. Her stomach rumbled in longing.

Wraen had seen the distant glimmer of the Greatwater lake from the tallest cliffs of the Moonspear, but had never wandered that far to see the place for herself. For a while it seemed more proper to admire it from the distance and imagine that this was the place, where merefolk resided, and the mental image had been so beautiful that in fear of spoiling it by seeing things for what they were, she forbade herself to wander that far.

Now things had changed, she had less time for fairy tales and had to dedicate more time for her chosen trade. With a newfound determination and within a short span of time she had explored and mapped quite a big area that surrounded Moonspear and it was high time she expanded that map.

The trip was longer than she had expected and, when she had reached the Blackfeather woods and spotted the blood and dried up and shrivelled body parts that were littering the pack's border, she had some doubts. Yet after carefully circling it around, the enthusiasm for the adventure returned.

She reached the lake, however, something caught her attention and she changed her route slightly to approach a creek. From the distance she had noticed dark forms dashing around, and, when she came up close, she saw odd-looking creatures playing and swimming and diving in the ice cold water. Not wanting to scare them away by her presence, she lied down and watched them play from a safe distance.

Only after a while she found out that she was not the only one observing the otters - there on the opposite bank was another hunter perched and ready to spring in action.

An ear twitched, sensing the approach of another. The gray female nearly blending in with the dreary winter world, but bright, apple green eyes gave her presence away. Kaevo huffed softly, annoyed. Then, an idea came to her. Citrine eyes attempted to meet the green ones from across the creek, and she gave a nod. Then in a burst of movement, Kaevo thrust herself towards one of the otters. The poor creature was startled, big brown eyes wide in mortal terror. Luckily it did not seem to have noticed the gray woman and it fled, leaping right towards her.

The dark wolf on the opposite bank acknowledged Wraen's presence - first it did not seem that she liked her arrival much, but then her expression changed as the idea came to her mind. The girl had caught the intensity and the important of the look she was given and with a furrowed brow tried to understand, what was going to happen next.

In a swift movement the other wolf charged at the unsuspecting creatures, startling one of them and in it's attempt to fled to safety it ran directly at Wraen. She did not have to be told twice then - instinct kicked in and with little second thoughts she attacked the animal, managing to grab it and pin it down by the lower part of it's spine.

She held on, while the creature squirmed, unable to let go or procede, hoping that the other one would join in and help to finish the deed.

I googled and it turns out that otters are no small animals. They can be around 1 meter in length.

oh dang,  my bad.  I should have known that haha. Thanks :)

the eye contact proved successful. the green eyes met hers and she supposed that the message would soon become clear.  just as kaevo lept after the otter,  the woman deftly grasped the long bodied animal in her jaws. The otter made a sound of terror as it wiggled and squirmed, fiercly trying to escape its death. kaevo knew the hunt would be unsuccessful lest she do her part.  the gray woman had the otter pinned into place it seemed,  but she obviously could not make the kill on her own.  the darker hued wolf grasped part of the belly and tore a chunk of flesh free from its body. She continued the tearing and shredding,  the animal weakening as its blood painted the snow.  and finally,  the poor thing succumbed.

panting despite the cold, a wretched smile came to her bloody lips.  She regarded her impromptu hunting partner. "good work," she hissed brightly.  "you were fantastic.  we'll  split it? " this was the obvious answer but kaevo asked anyway to ensure that they had the same plans.

The other wolf did not have to be told twice, what the problem was and how should he or she get involved. In a matter of minutes the animal's attempts to escape grew feebler and, when Wraen felt safe to let go of her hold. After a little thought, she grabbed the otter by the throat and crushed it as well, because it did not seem very good to let it still live, while being torn apart piece for piece.

"Head and front end will do for me," Wraen told the other, thinking that, while the feet and and neck would be a good meal for her, the head would make a nice toy for the youngsters at home. "Good job - by the way." They shared the food, Wraen ate, what she could, on the spot and took everything else away to Moonspear.
