All Welcome
Earlier that morning Birk had heard the noise made by several crows and having suspicions of what it could mean, followed the sound to investigate. Some distance away from the Easthollow borders laid the last remnants of someone else's kill. From the bare bones, the random slivers of fur and the eyeless and severly mauled head, he deduced that it must have been some kind of deer.

The crows had not been happy about the appearance of another scavanger, the coyote that had been present there as well, but fled, once he saw the big wolf appear, growled and snarled at him. But Birk took no notice of that. He quickly went through of what was left to find, what would be useful to take back, and eventually settled for the head. Too big to fit in his jaws, but the one ear that was not yet torn off was useful to take the thing away.

Now in the safety of his new home, watched by few pairs of dark, black-bead-like eyes from above and a curious fox, which was not visible to him, but it's smell present in the vicinity, Birk gnawed on and ate, whatever was left of the head.

Mawk had been simply walking, paws drifting over the snow coating the ground while his mind wandered and thought upon the goings of life. He was content to patrol, primarily he did this during the early hours of the morning, but occasionally he would continue during the late afternoon, or as the moon began to rise. The curtain of darkness that enveloped the sky during the night was almost comforting in its silence, so he did not feel unsettled when patrolling really early or really late.

When he came across the male, white fur blending wonderfully with the snow itself, he let out a chuff of greeting. The man had never met this wolf before but from their scent they were clearly one in Easthollow so he would treat them as such. There was a head, this he also noticed, but he made no move to try and take it - he was not interested. What he was interested in, however, was this male. Perhaps he could strike up a pleasant conversation, or simply familiarise himself with the stranger in another way, like a hunt or a spar.

Birk sensed the approach of the packmate even before he came in the view, and, though he did not stop gnawing at the head, ears were cupped forward and his eyes flitted back to the general direction of the other wolf. Finally he came and greeted him - a scruffy, but tall and well-built individual with a proud look and an air of being very important. No doubt that he belonged to the higher tier of the hierarchy.

And yet despite this obvious knowledge, the northerner did not get up right away to show, how submissive and harmless he was. Quite the contrary - they were not equal in rank, but he did feel that he would be an opponent to be reckoned with, if it came down to it with this specimen. Therefore he chose the golden middle-ground - he nicked his head in a polite way and added some acknowledging sways of his tail.

"Birk from the Ice Giants - and what am I honored to meet with?" he asked.

He had no desire to force his dominance onto another packmate - he was a peaceful man, unless it came down to defending those he loved. Then he was as ferocious as a lion, certainly not a man to be trifled with. But since there was no need for aggression in this case, he accepted the polite nod and mirrored the action in return. "Pleasure to meet you, Birk." In some part of his mind, something clicked - as though he recognised this pale wolf from somewhere, though not enough to make a statement about it.

"My name is Mawk, from who knows where." A slight chuckle left his lips, the memory of his homeland distant and blurry. He knew roughly the location's appearance, but the images were faded and no name could be placed. Besides, he was still a traveller at heart even if he had chosen to settle down for his family - before meeting Illecebra, he had scarcely settled anywhere for a prolonged period of time.

Mawk-from-who-knows-where had a sense of humor! That was a first here since Birk's arrival to Easthollow and he added a big, green plus-mark in the list of first impressions of his packmate. He returned the grin, but before he was able to say something, a loud noise in the distance caught his attention. He rose to his full height and listened intently, then he turned to his pack-mate and asked: "Care to find out, what it was?"

Sorry for the short post!

There was a loud noise in the distance and as the pale man's ears perked forward to listen, Mawk's own mirrored the movement. Birk turned to ask whether or not he was interested in looking for the source of the racket, and the gamma was quick to nod and start padding forward. "Sure thing." Perhaps he could find a friend in this wolf.

"Excellent," Birk replied and led the way. They moved through the forest with ease and relative speed - the aspiring guardian was keenly listening for any other sounds that would point to the source again, yet the noise did not repeat itself. What caught his attention though, was the strong smell of moist earth in the area, which was a little curious.

"See anyth..." he turned to Mawk and did not look, where he was going for a brief moment. And that short timespan was enough for him to almost fall in a fresh sinkhole. "WHOA!" Birk exclaimed reeling backwards, as soon as he was aware of the situation. "That was a close one," he said, coming to the edge of the hole in the ground and peering down.

They spent some more time together, examining the sinkhole and then left for other duties.

14th April Edit - Birk died, therefore wrapping everything up for him.
