Tiny cuts stung as she raced through the rough of the forest. Warm tears flew from her eyes, falling behind her. The agouti girl’s unnecessary speed was her attempting to run away from anything and everything. She was in such a panic from the world, her life, her mind. She was but a blur in the woods, causing cracks and thumps, paying no attention as she exponentially created more of an issue. Chaska’s words played over in her head like a broken record.

Morning. Morning. Morning. Morning. She had to find Morning, whatever that was.

The girl was in such disarray, her mind had began to deteriorate and her last friends death was one of the final steps to it breaking. After she completed this mission, she knew exactly her next plan of action: to kill herself. The maidan had tried once, but now she truly had nothing left to lose. Nothing to prove. She was losing her sanity with every thought that haunted her brain.

It wasn’t until she rammed straight into a sap covered tree did she cease her frantic race. She laid still against the bark, weeping into it.

Grayday. Grayday. Grayday. She had to tell Grayday.

She almost silently cried to the tree, she wanted to die. To end this unending misery that was her reality. At least Chaska now roamed the sanctuary in complete bliss; he deserved it. All she deserved was to perish, she deserved flames to engulf her in hell and nothing less. She was pointless, pitiful, and worthless. For that brief time between meeting Nathanial and watching as Chaska had his throat torn, she had hope. Real hope - a warming fire had been lit into her dim realm, and she basked in this tiny light. Until, it was blown away and left only with burnt wood and charcoal ashes.

As blood seeped from her fresh wounds she didn’t even notice. All surroundings were intangible to Mara, she was stuck in this world within her head and unable to escape it no matter how many times she banged on the locked doors.

”Chaska.” She whimpered, her throat was inflamed as she sobbed, voice hoarse and rough. Heart beating insanely fast out of her chest, breathing hitched with every whine.

”I can’t, I can’t, I can’t.” Complaining to no one, eyes shut tightly as she wept.

She ran and the earthstalker followed closely behind. Komodo had seen when she entered the wooded area and interrupted his foraging — just glimpses, but Komodo had seen enough to know she did not suffer the same as all other things did in the winter. Abandoning his responsibilities, Komodo drifted behind her, haunting her frenetic movements from the shadowed places. She was flashes of argent against the innards of the island, giving off an incredibly restless aura — it was enough to make the santana’s stomach lurch. Every single thing in this world experienced varying degrees of apprehension and stress every now and again, so he was not one to pass judgement… but when she collapsed against a tree and broke down in the saddest tears he had ever seen, Komodo began to concern himself with the salubrity of the woman’s soul. The devil must be in her

The earthstalker wasn’t entirely sure what to make of the woman’s display, but there was an emotion that ignited in his gut and licked hotly at the pit of his throat: a strange sense of god-fearing empathy. Komodo didn’t know what had happened to her, but he didn’t have to know; hell, even he had been there himself. Instead of knowing, he simply wanted to heal her every hurt. The woman seemed so small, so fragile and frail — in need of the gods’ protection — and he had the tools to make her whole once more.

The man emerged halfway from the shadows, something reminiscent of a specter. He stood for a moment before pressing his haunches against the coastal earth, looking down upon her with a heavy-handed gaze. There was time for softness and gentility, and this was not it. Komodo approached the crying women with serious intentions, for was it not a god-given commandment to heal the shewolf? Was this not his singular purpose in life? The toxicity in her soul was not something to be made light of. Komodo exhaled sharply, whuffing to gain her attention — and just watched, wanting her to know she was not alone.
