A voice roused the wolfdog from his stupor. Oxtli swiveled his ears and then pulled his gaze from the bird overhead before latching it tightly to the approaching female. She was lovely and beautiful in her own right, so his smile remained painted on his dark face, drawing his features upward in a welcoming expression of delight. Once she picked up her pace to a trot, Amoxtli rose to his feet and bent the front half of his frame toward the earth in a playful bow. His tail flagged behind him, rear swinging wildly in the air. The Tervuren was the epitome of life and joy, and there would be no trace of danger for the woman to feel threatened from.

As she grew nearer to him, she inquired what he was doing by the coast. A surprised look painted itself onto his face and he turned to look over the drop of the plateau and onto the shoreline with a peculiar and sober fondness. How difficult it was to not be able to tell her all of his reasons for being there. There were many times that a look was simply not enough – he could not tell his female that his sister was his reason for being so close to the ocean, and that his love for her was all that it would ever take to pull him away from the blue of the water and the crashing of the waves.

Amoxtli turned back to face the woman and rose from his bowed position with a quietly thrumming heart. His gaze locked with her own and he released a whispered whine. Why, because I love the coast, his eyes spoke. Then, the dark-faced wolfdog cast his head to the side in an inquiring state, wondering what a lovely girl such as her was doing so close to the waters.
