casually taking this opportunity to work through some backdated noise w/ myself for a post or two here before i archive it so don't look at me :p
He had just killed this rabbit that hung limp in his teeth. Nothing special, still warm though, and as luck would have it, he smelled his mother's scent on his way. Instinctively he was wary at first. After that week of his father keeping him far, far away from her and then her waxing and waning moodiness afterwards, he was not about to chance anything. But he had a pretty good suspicion that bringing a nice fresh snack would make her more hospitable towards him.

There were bits and pieces that he had gleaned from his packmates, and picking up on their generosity towards her situation only seemed natural. The learning curve was at play for him too, though. He was constantly torn for her knew the best answers would come from her, but getting all of them might be near impossible. This would not dampen all of his gusto for today, however. He found her and approached by gliding forward, tail and head down, sure to show off his offering first. His heart raced until it seemed like she wasn't descending upon him with anything except interest, although he would not lull himself into a sense of security just yet.

He set the rabbit down by her only so he could dart close enough to lick her chin. He whined, arcing himself up into an awkward pose as he toed the line in search of what she would still allow from him. In anticipation, he had to wonder, and enjoy every second he could steal. Thrilled to not be shunned yet, too, he wanted more despite how greedy it sounded. When he bounced back to put a little distance between them, his eyes roved and nervousness began to well thickly in his heart when he could still tell where that wound had scabbed up and mended on her side by the way her fur still sat weirdly. She had never really told him much about it, but neither had he asked, and he didn't like it when it drew his attentions its way still.

It really felt like there should have been something to say but he couldn't decide what it was. Even the mouthy boy was silent now.
