All Welcome
It was still freeze-your-ass-off cold, but the weather was improving. The slight increase in temperature wasn't quite as much as Bobby might have liked, but it was enough to give him hope for the seasons to come. There would be bountiful prey, beautiful landscapes, and more warm, summer naps than Bobby knew what to do with. Springtime was nearly here, and this young hunter just could not wait.

For the time being, there was still work to be done; hunts to be had, borders to be marked, all of that good stuff. The former interested him much more than the latter, so Bobby was quick to get to work finding a scent trail.

Thuringwethil has not spent much time with Robin since their return and, if she’s being honest, in general. Most of the time he seems content playing with his brother or doing his own thing but lately, every time she sees Artaax, he’s free of his other half. When she latches onto the the scent that chilly morning, she pursues it until she spots the two toned boy. He’d always been a late bloomer, unable to go with them to war but she worries she’s done him some injustice in raising him to be the man he should.

As they near their first full year, and the expansion of their family on the horizon, she wants to patch up where their relationship lacks. When she spots him she chuffs lowly for his attention, but not enough to interrupt what he’s doing. Like with Artaax, she is patient to see what her other son does with his time.

Bobby returned Thur's chuff with one of his own, though his eyes remained trained on the ground. Wanna help? he asked, head finally rising to meet his Nomi's gaze. Together, he was sure that they could find something. Besides, after having a reunion hunt with Wildfire, it was only right that he had one with Thur, too.

I want something big, Bobby said, eyes growing wide with excitement. If they could take something down, that would be ideal, but he would be reasonable and settle for medium-large if that was the best that they could manage.

Of the three of her children, Robin feels the farthest from her. Artaax has taken after her in many ways, using his skills in his hunting more than his fighting (not that he isn’t capable for the latter, evident by his diligence at the borders and beyond) and Blixen is a little spitfire like her mother but with a fighting spirit Heda has always had.

Robin, however, seems to be missing something. She hopes it is not terribly noticeable, this lack she has with him, but she hopes to rectify and rebuild their relationship the war put between them. Artaax and Blixen had been ready and able to go to war where their youngest brother lacked, though she isn’t certain why.

“Sha,” she says in response, keeping her distance as she lets him search for whatever he wants to hunt and giving him the chance to prove himself before her eyes.

It was a concious decision to ignore the distance between Bobby and Thur, because he didn't feel as though feeding what was already dead would benefit either party. If they were to make any progress, they would simply have to start anew, and if this is what that meant, then he was just fine with that reality.

There weren't any necessarily strong scents, but a few faint traces lingered. None of them were particularly interesting, either; although Bobby was beginning to feel less enthusiastic about the hunt, he knew that he was secretly obliged to continue.

It didn't take long for him to settle on the most pungent of the odors, that being of a mule deer. Bobby cursed how unlucky he had to be, On this day, of all the days! but begrudgingly assumed position as he began to search out their prey.

She moves as he moves; only half-heartedly is she attempting to scent something. Her focus is primarily on him but she mimics each step so she keeps up and as his features change, her nose turns and she picks up the scent he catches. One brows quirks as he pursues forth, wondering if he thinks he’s going to try with just the two of them or call for another wolf or two to bring it down. As hands off she is on parenting, giving them the chance to learn on their own, she isn’t going to purposefully allow her son to get hurt trying to prove something. She licks her lips a little and follows along for the time being.

The trail was strong; their wasn't much distance between the hunters and the hunted. Bobby turned around to face Thur and make sure that she was following, but also to get a good enough look at her face to decide if he was making a jackass move. It wouldn't have been the first one (lapses in judgement were kinda his thing), but it would have been the most jackassish one, for sure.

Now, in this moment, he had the perfect chance to impress his Nomi the way that Artaax and Blixen both had, and he might very well blow it by trying to be the biggest, baddest jackass the world has ever seen. Nonetheless, Bobby's look to Thur was more for his own reassurance. If her face told him to stop, then he knew that he was doing something right.

Up ahead, he whispered, nodding his head toward the oblivious deer, We can take it. I can take it, trust me.

He snaked around to one side of the prey and waited expectantly for Thur to do the same.

She moves along with him, keeping a relatively easy pace as he leads. However, her expression remains curious at best and blank at most. When they came to the opening in the forest, where the mule deer has taken up space, she turns to look expectantly at the boy. It would make her feel better to have a third wolf to help but as her son assures her he has it, she lets him continue with the lead. If he doesn’t have it, he’ll learn, and if he does, then they have a meal to share together.

Thuringwethil moves opposite of Bobby to stay flush the other side, but she does not advance until she’s given the go-ahead.

The two of them were in prime position. Thur on one side, Bobby on the other; their deer was in for a world of hurt. After a moment's consideration, watching the mule deer look around and investigate aimlessly, Bobby gave his Nomi a nod and began to quickly shuffle in. Once he had established his vantage point from a few yards away, he began to move at a full sprint, hoping that Thur was nearby to back him up.

Her gaze moves between Robin and the deer, waiting until he’s given the signal for her to start moving. He doesn’t miss a beat, hitting into full stride and she’s not far on the opposite end. All her worry is set aside as the thrill of the hunt settles within, adrenaline surging through her veins. She runs as fast as she can, keeping up on the boy’s feet toward their prize. Eventually, it takes notice and begins to turn and flee, and she only surges through faster. She gives one glance to her son before refocusing her gaze on their chase.

Luckily, Bobby wasn't as alone as it seemed; for a moment, his eyes had left their focus on the deer and travelled to Thur, who was luckily attentive enough to catch the deer's exit trail. Where she ran on one side, Bobby ran on the other, perfectly mirroring her movements with each elongated step. He came close enough to feel the heat that the deer left in its wake; the wind that swept beneath its hooves exhilerated him with each blow.

Without much hesitation, Bobby began making aspirational nips at the deer's ankles and hindquarters in an effort to catch onto the fragile joints of its leg.

Based on this roll. PP with permission.

They close in on the deer together on either side of it. It doesn’t take long to realize its mistake as the distance shortens, Bobby coming out a little ahead to snap at the back legs. Not quite enough, Thuringwethil surges forward to get ahead and run along, waiting for the right moment to latch on to something and bring it down. They have to fight through a few redwoods but end up on the other side of another clear.

The deer is jerked back by a bite from Bobby, managing a good chunk to force it to stumble. Its head sways in her direction to hit but she slows down, trying to avoid it, but the collusion is unavoidable and she stumbles a little. A second bite by her son causes the ungulate to hit the ground but bounce up and Thuringwethil is able to recover the space lost and lunge when it thinks it’s free, still slowed down by the large male. Teeth snap forward, growling and hooking around the lower portion of the neck. Teeth sear into tender flesh, jugular pulse beating in her mouth as she tears the vessel and blood pools into her mouth.

Bobby is able to get a better blow in the abdomen, using teeth and claws to drag it to the ground and do most of the work to finish him off. Thuringwethil shakes her head roughly by the time it hits the ground, tearing away flesh and tendon from the neck, muzzle coated in fresh, bright red blood. Licking her lips she turns to the boy with a pleased grin on her face and a stomach rumbling with hunger.

Together they share the meal in silence, simply enjoying the win in their favor, and returning what is left to a cache near hougeda.
