eske rises early while the moon is still high in the night sky and the sun is but a distant, small smear of orange light against the velvet colors of night in the distant horizon. she always wakes early and after a quick snack taken from a food cache sets to her patrols. she spends longer on the southern border, as that's the border that touches the sound and by association the pack that settled there while they were at war. cowards, is the first thought that comes to her mind as she lifts her leg and reinforces the already reinforced border with urine. of course they'd waited until the full force of drageda was away. it bought them some time before they'd have to face said full force but not much. wounds from the war were all but healed up now and eske thinks ( hopes, rather ) that it wouldn't be long now. though the sun has begun it's ascension in the sky and eske still has half of her patrol to finish she continues to linger on the southern border, staring out at the sound with thinly veiled contempt in her sea blue-green gaze and a hard frown upon her lips.

It had been a month since his fall, and Prince still remembered little of the events immediately surrounding it. He tried to cast these thoughts aside-- specifically when his mind wandered to Arrille. Something had blossomed briefly between them, he remembered that, but... that would never be a reality, now. Not after everything that had transpired. And Prince still didn't really know why his packmates had been so angry at the traitor. He had gathered that it must be bad, but-- well, no one told him anything.

He shook out his coat and decided to pace along the borders again. The southern border first, he decided, and definitely not because of Arrille. That other pack was dangerous, and they knew now that Drageda wanted one of their own.
Prince hesitated a bit when he scented a packmate who had gotten there first. Ultimately, his sense of loneliness won out-- he had avoided company lately, but was admittedly sick of brooding alone. He lowered his head and chuffed as he approached, moving so he could see her face and noting that the she-wolf was unfamiliar to him.
His gaze only swept over her once, briefly, to take note of her features. If he had been into women, he might have been attracted to her-- the sharpness in her brilliant blue eyes spoke of fierce intelligence, and her features were elegantly crafted. But, Prince was absolutely flaming, so his admiration was purely aesthetic. He didn't take longer than half a beat to study her before he averted his eyes and lowered his head just a bit more, deciding something about her spoke of authority.

eske's ears cup forth, her heartbeat like the rapid thrum of a hummingbird's wings in her throat as she hears the sound of nearing footfalls. at first, so focused on her neighbor's territory she thinks it might be one of them approaching and her muscles coil in anticipation. yet, the closer the sound of approach draws, eske realizes with a swivel of an ear, that it comes from within drageda and not the sound. she lets out a low 'hmph', a sound that is almost disappointment as she turns away, brushing her shoulder forcefully against the nearest tree trunk. she will slather her scent all over this stretch of border so that they know that the bringer of death awaits them.

as she finishes she glimpses over her shoulder at the male that approaches him. she recognizes him by glimpse of sight. she tries to think if heda's ever mentioned his name; likely, but it was equally as likely that eske'd been more preoccupied at the time. he is tall, she assess, with an average build. from first glimpse she might've mistaken him for arlo would she not have known that the latter was deceased. "join me?" wanlida invites with a slight gesture of her muzzle.

editing in a conclusion because I'm pulling Prince!
----------------------
The boy nodded in response to his packmate's invitation, tail swishing behind him as he moved to add his own scent to the border. Only a single glance was spared down past the cliffs, towards where he knew Arrille hid.
"Prince." He offered after a few beats, pausing to give her time to respond before he spoke again. "I traveled here from Sangeda several months ago, but I'm originally from Trigeda."
The explanation both bored and pained him; it made sense to offer it, but he hated to recall the circumstances, and it seemed a rather lackluster introduction. He had little that was more interesting to offer, however. Perhaps he would have told her about how he had flailed right off the edge of a cliff, but that wasn't very impressive.
It was a fairly uneventful introduction, and the patrol itself was much the same. When it was time for the interaction to end, he departed feeling a bit less lonely but no more integrated than before.
