Another for Lycaon if you've got time?

Caiaphas' very obvious pregnancy had been the first thing to spark the "what if" in Nyx' mind, but she had disregarded it as paranoia. She knew how pups were made, of course, but it couldn't have happened to her, right? Her trysts with Lycaon had been nothing but fun, and she managed to convince herself that neither of them intended their encounters to result in offspring. Surely they couldn't happen if they willed it not to?

Then came the vomiting, and the nausea. And the strange yearning for fish, which she'd never really cared for in all the months she'd spent at the coast. Despite puking after consumption of her coveted prey, she was quick to long for the taste once again. Fucking seriously? Nyx thought as she squeezed her eyes shut, trying not to gag at the bitter flavour of bile on her tongue before she set about scouring the sequoias in search of fresh water.

Something was happening to her and the sudden changes in such a short period of time made her uncomfortable, but she wasn't willing to acknowledge the possibility of a pregnancy. Pausing by a stream to lap at its cold surface she figured she'd discuss it with the ashen Beta when next she saw him, so he could ease her budding anxiety.

always!

as winter formally passed into spring, drawing daylight longer, traces of life stirred in spite of winter's parting shot of bracing chill, hemlocks shuddering snow down on their backs and fresh tulips shagged in rime. still and all, the cheerless gray that painted their world for so long washed away from the canvas to reveal a promising vignette of tasseled green--once immured in snow now demanding to be seen, snowdrops and bluebells and daffodils were among the first of florets to peek through the white groundcover. busy robins plucked white mulberries from wizened twigs and set to the task of nesting in the budding trees overhead.

unbeknownst to him, there was an incipient flowering occuring elsewhere; the unintended fruits of his and Nyx's labors took root. together with the waning prepotence of winter, their time spent apart prolonged until it had been days before he again sought out the flaxen woman's company (or she, his). it went mostly unobserved, as did most things in nature, that somewhat of a tolerance had developed to whatever intoxicating effects her proximity had on him before. he did not feel the possessive urge to drive everyone away from her, or release an impressible tension in his loins, and was more comfortable leaving her for long periods of time to do his own thing.

just as so, he missed her company and attention. after some searching throughout their usual trysting places and hearing the plashing near a stream, the gallant found her slaking her thirst and harboring a seriously miserable look upon her face. he moved with pensive steps, huffing to announce his presence, and then moved alongside her to lap at the creek's bitterly cold waters as well.

"hey. not feeling well?" he lifted his head and asked after letting the moment of silence fall between them. his whiskers twitched with the desire to reach out and touch her, but a small kindling of intution advised a more reluctant approach. cheeks he was used to as being mantled with arousal were now qualmishly pale, and his initial thought was that she'd eaten something that didn't agree with her.

the possibility of pregnancy didn't even politely knock on the door--much less enter his mind.

Just as he crossed her mind, Lycaon arrived on the scene. He announced his presence with a soft wuff, but the golden Ostrega did not at once look upon him. She continued to lap at the chill waters, relishing the cool soothe of her burning throat, and regarded the pale Beta with a backward cant of a velvet ear. Not surprisingly, he moved in alongside her to quench his own thirst, and Nyx lifted her head to finally turn her vivid eyes on him.

Salmon tongue flicked from between her lips to catch the crystal droplets that clung to her chin, then she huffed a breath through her nostrils in response to her pack-mate's question - thank you, doctor obvious. "I feel like death warmed up," she exaggerated, attempting a wry smirk that vanished almost as soon as it appeared. Her gaze sought the ashen leader's own for a moment of seriousness, through which she could silently communicate that she wasn't prepared to deliver a booty call before even allowing him the opportunity to request her attention.

her dramatization evinced the concern he felt work its way up his mind, his ears pulled back with consternation at first and then swept forward--he wouldn't dream of asking her to oblige him in such a state, and in the stead of carnal energy came determination to alleviate whatever mysterious bug ailed her. "tentative diagnosis, bubonic plague." he tried to keep his worries subtle and his demeanor light with humor, but there was some obvious worry coming through despite his efforts. his brow furrowed. "what did you have to eat last?"

He expressed a genuine concern for her, which was... endearing, she supposed. Their companionship was one without stress, a friendship that allowed Nyx to be entirely herself. Both Lycaon and his brother brought out the mischief in her and, strangely, had kept her rooted to Grimnismal for longer than she'd anticipated when she agreed to band with them for a while. It was in the nature of an Ostrega to wander, yet something about the brothers was enough to ground her in one location.

Nyx had not considered what their intimacy might to do alter whatever relationship they'd built and she did not wish to scrutanise their situatio, for she knew that she could not commit herself to him fully. Despite recent development and without consideration that new life might have been planted within her womb, the golden Ostrega's intentons to depart when the snows thawed still remained. Even then, as Lycaon regarded her with worry in his tone, she thought primarily of herself.

"Ha fucking ha," she scoffed playfully at his mention of the plague, raising a forelimb to swat at her pale comrade, "if I'm diseased, I'm holding you and your crotch responsible." She eyed him suspiciously, then sank tiredly to her haunches to move fluidly onto their investigation of the real source of her illness: "I ate fish. It tastes like ass at the best of times, but I've been craving it."

ack sorry, not on my a-game irl or on here. i blame all the planets currently in retrograde <___<

it was almost to be expected that in any friends-with-benefits relationship, some tender feelings would eventually forge ahead without either participant’s input. such was the case with Lycaon. he still viewed Nyx as a friend, probably the most pleasant friend he had for unparagoned reasons, but he would have been concerned for her malady regardless--netflix and chill availability notwithstanding.

her quip elicited a smile from him and he leaned away with a boyish snicker as she boxed him in the shoulder. ”hey now. this crotch is a goddamn gift, don’t you forget it.” he defended the integrity of his groin with a huff, squinting back as she eyed him dubiously.

Lycaon took a forward step when Nyx sank into her haunches, looking drained and listless as banter fell to the wayside in favor of their more acute issue. fish, okay, it’s easy to get sick from fish… he pondered. ”what kind of fish? did you catch it from the sea?” he drilled her. there were many species of fish she could have eaten, and all it took was one spiny dog fish for things to get dicey.

”do you want to go lie down in my den?”

Lycaon swayed, defending himself against her verbal attack on his manhood by barking a reminder that his crotch was, matter-of-fact, a gift. The golden wolfess huffed in response to him, feigning disagreement, and briefly considered including that she'd had better. She figured that would have been a lie too far, as she considered the strong possibility that the recent development of their friendship might lead him to look upon her with more sensitivity. It was fun to tease him, but the last thing she wanted was to hurt him by tricking him into believing she'd been whoring herself out to other males.

He asked her what type of fish, and Nyx wrinkled her nose. "From the sea," she offered, "but they all look the same to me." She laughed at this. For a wolf who lived on the coast, she knew she little about what dwelled within the sea. Shrugging, the agouti rolled a shoulder and pulled herself gingerly onto her paws - stumbling a little as her head began to swim with dizziness. "Lying down like a good idea. Lead the way?"

he eyed her wryly,  expecting some off-the-cuff wit regarding his dink, but a grin overwrought with self-satisfaction unfurled on his face when he was instead recieved with a huff and silence. welp, that was all the validation he needed for the week! maybe even two weeks, depending on which blows Wylla had in store for his ego in the coming days.

he knew logically (that latent part of his intelligence showed up now and then) Nyx probably wasn't feeling up to euphemistic cutting and thrusting on this fine day, so he made an effort to switch gears into seriousness and dropped the subject. the boy offered his shoulder for her to lean into as the dizzy spells overcame her senses, causing her to visibly favor one side of gravity; Lycaon's muscles flexed instinctively to bear the weight of her frame. "you gonna make the walk?" he asked, ears shifting with unease as he stood in a supportive lurch.

"the sea, huh? really narrows it down." he mentioned as he eased her onto the path towards his man-cave, eyes trailing first along the various features of the scenery before bidding Nyx's canary-yellow gaze. "once, i ate a fish because it washed up on shore and i was lazy, but it was a nasty looking guy. you know how the nasty ones tend to always taste the best though." no she probably didn't, and it'd been a cabezon he'd found and ate. you know, like a moron.

"anyway, that fish gave me crazy diarrhea," he continued his romancing; though he saw Nyx in the same light that he  saw Ingram, except less Habsburg dynasty-ish, 'cause of the sex, so he didn't really think twice about revealing his history with intestinal disstresstinal to her. besides, her unwellness was making him anxious, and when he was anxious, he overshared. unfortunately, his oversharing probably wasn't helping her nausea. "like, you would not believe. anyway, did the fish have spines? because the one i ate did." finally, he arrived at his point.
