@Prince - backdated to yesterday

Since Morningside had moved east, Shale hadn't ventured too far outside the plains. The vast swath of land they now claimed for their own had everything he could want: beautiful vistas, open space, and plenty of hunting. Who could want more? He had stuck to circling the borders and filling the caches, and he was content with that.

Today, though, he awoke with itchy paws, and a feeling of deep-seated need in his stomach. Samaantine Messeda had been in his dreams, pressing her dark fur against his pelt of grays, and he shivered, feeling her touch so strongly it was as if she'd been there. He stretched and padded out of his den, casting a long look at Pema's sleeping place, his eyes filled with not a little guilt.

She really didn't deserve him.

Ears pricked, Shale took off at a trot, then a gallop, heading toward the coast. He would meander there for a while, where he'd met the dark girl, hoping to find her again. She'd been alone when they'd last met; perhaps she'd follow him home, this time. Even if he didn't locate her, there was still some decent hunting to be found on the coast. Catori was heavy with pregnancy, and there would soon be more mouths to feed.

The silver man edged up the rise, slipping between the blackened trees. Though it had clearly been ravaged by fire, maybe even in his lifetime, the forest was beginning to show signs of new life: he saw the green of saplings in the ashes, and the underbrush was beginning to restore itself.

The pale boy had finally given in to his urge to wander; he had isolated himself within Drageda's territory for far too long. Fear of running into Arrille had finally abated, and in its absence Prince had been overwhelmed with wanderlust. He needed to stretch his legs, see new places-- he realized now he had scarcely left the cliffs since arriving. In fact, all he had done was brood and avoid everyone. It was probably time to do some exploring before he started getting grey hairs or something.
So he set off outside the territory for the day, entirely unaware of what direction he was going and without much thought for how he'd get back. This is the part where you don't ask how he made the journey from Sangeda to Drageda (hint: it was Bean). He was having a good time, and that was what mattered.

Spring was upon the land now, and Prince found the smallest bit of peace in the new life around him-- but he couldn't help his fascination when he spotted the forest. It had clearly seen a devastating fire at some point, blackened and sparse as it was, but the faintest hints of life simmered beneath the ashen debris. The discovery was fascinating to him.
So much so that he only barely noticed the scent of another on the breeze; the pale boy turned his head automatically, searching for the stranger. He didn't move even when he spotted him, but his ears perked and his posture rose just slightly. Aggression wasn't Prince's immediate reaction, but he would not be caught cowering before a strange wolf. Even if the male's size intimidated him-- even if the sight of the first possibly available male company that wasn't related to him had other things on his mind.

Movement caught his eye, and he saw a white-furred wolf ahead, young and male. His lips twitched in a sardonic smile as he saw the boy puff himself up, and resisted a roll of his eyes, instead padding slowly, deliberately, toward the stranger. He came to a standstill with a good amount of distance between them and lifted his chin, surveying him coolly.

"No need to show off for me, kid," Shale said, his voice soft and lilting on the wind. "I'm just on my way to the coast." Which was where the youngster clearly was from; Shale caught the scent of salt and sea on his person, and wondered, of the packs residing there, which he belonged to.

He tilted his head at the other wolf's greeting; he was slightly irritated by it, but allowed his posture to relax a bit nonetheless. The other smelled of pack, and he had no interest in getting Drageda into another war-- it seemed they had enough problems. His gaze flitted over the male, and he decided he was interested in something.
Prince offered a smile after a few beats, hesitant and not overly warm, but the point was to be friendly right? Maybe I can show off another time.
The boy let the awkward, overly bold comment sit only for a couple seconds before he followed it up, kicking himself internally for saying it. He spoke a bit stumblingly now, admittedly nervous under the gaze of the older male; it occurred to him that the stranger was his senior by quite a bit. The fact didn't dampen his interest, but it put him a bit on edge. What's your-- uh, your name? What pack are you from?

He cocked an eyebrow at the boy's bold statement, but said nothing in response, waiting for him to recover from the blunder, which he did so, albeit awkwardly. Followed it up with a couple of questions for Shale, which seemed a bit presumptuous--why should he answer? Nevertheless, if this was one of the coastal wolves, they were neighbors of sorts, and Shale should do his best to be forthright.

"Shale," he replied, dipping his muzzle in greeting. "From Morningside. And you?"

The older man took the opportunity to size the stranger up, dark eyes raking over his tall, youthful form. The kid had a good set of muscles on him, and appeared intelligent enough. He was just around Pema's age, Shale figured, or a little bit younger. He felt a strange dichotomy between treating this boy as a child and wanting Pema as a woman; it didn't seem quite right.
