All Welcome
Much and more had happened in Lucas' extremely short life, but he remained oblivious to all of it. When he awoke the next morning it was in the sexy comfort of his family den, with his siblings pressed on both sides and his mother providing warm milk for them all. Lucas' shallow breathing continued well into the night and next day, accompanied by the occasional cough and whimpers as his lungs struggled to drain of fluid. He was tiny, tinier than the ordinary newborn, just like his brother and sister.
Though they had every opportunity afforded them by Laurel and Indra, who had prepared well for their birth (besides the location) and were doing the best they could, the newborn Redleafs had a fight ahead of them. They were born too early and all the more vulnerable to life's misfortunes, and there were many of those waiting to trip them up.
Meanwhile, inside his dreamer's head and heedless to all of this, Lucas' soul danced to a beat he couldn't truly hear. It had been with him since his conception, in whatever dormant part of him was responsible for subconsciousness, and was stronger now for having been introduced to the world. Somewhere along the line it moved into his physical form, and the newborn flailed out his forelimbs in response, indiscriminately kicking Piper and Wyatt both with his weak premature limbs.

For @Piper and @Wyatt! @Laurel and @Indra are probably welcome too. Not sure about @Xan being welcome or not, but tagging for reference, sry dad. Vague thread is vague.

indra is 100% skippable

she was still a nervous wreck -- she paced wildly to and from, an ear trained on the den behind her for any outcry either from laurel or the whelps. seeing the other woman's babies had not stirred much emotion in her -- but seeing laurel's --  well, it caused her heart to pound and her chest to shudder, in a strangely good way.

in a loving way.

she wasn't much use to laurel in her present state, and agitated she sat just at the mouth of the den, her shoulders hunched as she peered inside in time to see lucas roundhouse punt a sibling. she wanted more than anything to hold them, to hug or cherish them -- but today had been trying, so trying -- and both the puppies and their mother needed their sleep.

The tiny red thing had found a form of peace, nestled closely to her mother’s stomach and warmed by the gentle rising and falling of the bodies around her. All had quieted in their lives, for at least a moment. Piper Redleaf was alive. Alongside her were the forms of two sweet little bundles; one dark, the other a dusty tan. Of course, the little girl could not see her siblings. She did not even know their scent from the others in the den. Each time she jerked her little body or scrambled with her paws, she would feel them. Then again, the Redleaf pups had been together for some time already. They had been growing and shaping, and it was only in the new moments that they would truly learn of each other.

Piper and her siblings had some time before they truly would know anything or anyone other than the warmth of their mother and the persistent little paws of each other. With that sentiment in mind, the reddish whelp parted her mouth and released a surprised screech at the touch of her brother Lucas. Perturbed that she might have been stirred from her much-needed sleep, the girl wobbled in place a bit before ceasing her movement and burying her head in the fur of Laurel’s belly. Boys were already shaping up to be a handful.

one post cameo :)

While Indra watched over her and the pups Laurel caught up on some much needed sleep. The day had been tough and she was just glad to finally be in the family den with the pups snuggled up against her. Weary eyes shut and Laurel was asleep before her head barely hit the ground to rest between her forelegs. The pups' antics were lost on her at present as she slept on her side, knowing that she was safe because her dearest sister was watching over all of them.

Lucas' kick to Wyatt's pelvis was swift, and he woke suddenly at the disturbance; life's first tragedy had struck. A garbled noise, which articulated discomfort and unhappiness, escaped the newborn in reaction to the rude awakening.

Fortunately for the relationship between the two brothers, which, at the moment, was non-existent, the kick was forgotten as quickly as it had happened. Wyatt was negligent to the world around him once more, and he was free to fall back asleep. Curled against the downy fur of Laurel's underbelly and the soft materials that had been gathered for their bedding, Wyatt quickly resumed his rest; a gentle snore was the only noise to escape the baby's mouth until he woke again hours later.

It seemed that his siblings weren't quite so into this sexy new life as Lucas was; while he continued to squirm in place, dancing to the beat of his own drum in his own way, his siblings complained and pulled away or fell back to sleep. That was okay, though. Lucas was also an excellent solo dancer, and since he was mostly unaware of them in the everyday moment-to-moment, he wasn't capable of feeling sad that his siblings didn't join him.
So there at Laurel's belly did Lucas wiggle, greeting his new life with a dance, even as his breaths came in shallow gasps and he struggled against his wet lung. It didn't bring him down any. The upbeat newborn fell eventually into a fitful sleep disturbed only by the occasional flick of a tiny paw as the music went on and on inside his subconscious.

it was still so strange to see the odd shapes that clung to laurel's sides; even though she had witnessed them come to this earth, indra was still taken aback that they had come from laurel -- were laurel's. she heaved a sigh, her tension still thick on her perched form as she eyeballed laurel. her sister was deep in slumber, and indra peered over the soft rise of her flank with fondness and fatigue.

it seemed only one pup had yet to sleep - indra watched him bemused as he wriggled, in some cadence the redleaf was oblivious to. eventually his motions quietened, and she could tell by the soft length of his exhale he too had succumbed to sleep.

sleeping piper can be skipped <3
Warmth had quickly become a hot commodity for the young girl. Her rusty little figure puttered in the same four or five square inches before she was able to find the plush feeling of another body. Not knowing if it was her mothers or another, she touched against it with tiny paws and attempted to latch her gums to whatever they could hold. She suckled sadly at the tufts of fur on Laurel’s midsection before she found that it wasn’t producing the sustenance that she needed. Defeated and weary from her hard work – being born and all – Piper squeaked a few times to announce her need for sleep and comfort before she curled herself tightly against the back of Wyatt and pressed her face into their mother with the softest release of breath that could ever be heard. Her eyes were dark, but it only helped for sleep to overtake her and whisk her away to a wonderland crafted especially for delicate things.
