All Welcome
posting this early but dated for 4/17. @Relmyna @Averna @Shivali

she was still not quite allowed past the mouth of the den yet -- every time she boldly strode for new beginnings, she was promptly scooped up and placed back in the dark recess of her birthing grounds. frustrated, and starting already to demonstrate how capable she was of mischief, astara side-eyed her mother and waited for her to be distracted.

all it took was a glance away, and astara was off -- an inky form bolting for freedom.

relmyna could not remember how many times that very hour she had retrieved her nightcub. dutifully she paced after astara again, until a heady thought struck her. glancing around the interior of the whelping glen, and then out-of-doors, relmyna growled lowly, a tone meant to pause the babe. wait. as it was different from the wolfess' usual answer of no, she hoped astara would hear her and hold fast for the moment it took averna to join her at the cave-mouth.

this was it -- her great escape -- curtailed short by a noise she had never heard before. not no, (which was a growl the child was already intimately acquainted with) but wait. astara stumbled into a frozen pose, craning her thin neck around as she glanced over her shoulder at her mother. for a moment her ropy tail was suspended behind her, unsure -- but then she saw relmyna's striking eyes flicker to her sibling. with a hike of her tail astara turned around and bounded on stubby legs up to averna, attempting to place her muzzle on averna's shoulder in the efforts to encourage her to hurry up.

She had been dozing but was awakened by what she supposed was the dark one trying to get away again. She shook her head, then got up, stretched her legs and after what looked mostly like kneeding the earth a few paces as she stretched her front legs she shook the rest of her fur to get the last den debris out of it. Then the ghost child poked her head around the corner of the den to see their caretaker and the dark troublemaker out there.

Large white ears with soft pink insides lined with thin, wiry fur flopped forward as she watched the caretaker and the dark one interact, observing for now.

astara indeed paused, and relmyna breathed a sigh of relief when the dark cub returned. she urged averna out-of-doors and the priestess chuffed at the pair of them, glancing between their small faces before she moved through the denmouth and into the forest beyond. still snowlanced, blackfeather was beautifully grim. a smile wreathed her scarred muzzle; relmyna looked upon each of her tiny girls, searching for their reactions.

dutifully, astara fell in step behind relmyna's hocks -- though not before she aimed a quick nip at her sister's cheeks. it occurred to her that if she was going to be obedient, she was going to at least announce her displeasure about it -- she tranfixed her gaze on relmyna's bobbing hocks and lunged for one, her milk-teeth trying to gum the flat of her mother's back leg with little growls.

she stopped short almost immediately, however -- the snow, the brightness, this strange and unwitnessed world -- it was bizarre, unknown, and scary. instinctively she looked up to her mother, her ears flopping -- and then turned back to averna to gauge her reaction to the strange stuff on the ground.

Following by example, the pale child fell in step behind their caretaker and lifegiver easily enough. The nip was returned with a tiny growl and a snapping of mouth at the air. The ghostly girl observed as the dark one snapped at their caregiver's hocks and she followed out into the world. Through the journey they took the ghost child simply observed. She seemed unfazed by the snow on the outside, though her inner experience was great as she took it all in; and wanted more. To see more, to experience more, to feel and to taste more, more, more.

a surprised hiss lashed from relmyna at the unpleasantry of her nightcub's sharp young teeth. and yet it fell away as soon as it had come; a smile curved her quiet lips at the worried expression that fell over astara's countenance. glancing to astara then, the woman noted the aloof regard her lightchild held, and a small sound of mirth vibrated in her throat.
she stepped beyond them into the snow, moving some feet before glancing back along the skeletal jut of one shoulderblade toward the small pair. would they come? granting them an encouraging chuff, relmyna continued on, a pathway of small-printed tracks trailing behind her through the fallen white.

astara fixed her still-blue gaze on her spectrak sibling curiously - no mark of fear blemished the ghost's small features. somehow, the lack of trepidation encouraged the darker sister, and she followed by example by tentatively placing a paw on a long ribbon of bright snow.

her dam swept past them, and astara looked up in concern - she didn't care for the cold sensation the snow brought, and as if some comic creature on stilts, carried after her dam with each hind leg lifted to her belly and her front limbs moving in wild ambulations as she avoided each rag of snow on the ground.

The white fluff was much like her. Paws seemed to meld into it as she walked. A surprised gleeful expression passed her face briefly at the first two steps, and then the ghost child looked back at the dark one, who had by now followed as per her and the lifegiver's encouragement. The ghost child woofed at the dark one in further encouragement, noticing nothing odd about the comical manner in which she walked.

astara's spidery ambulations were taxing to perform -- each step she took was exaggerated and lifted, and she squealed unhappily as the cold sensation of snow hit her belly. goosed by the splatter of snow beneath her feet she bolted forward like a sour horse, ears pinned as she streaked past her mother until she was back on solid, non-white ground.

she had decided she didn't really care for snow - it was too cold, and she was a creature of comfort. with a dark expression she sat primly on the bare spot of earth, eyeing her sister with distaste as averna woofed encouragement in her direction. astara's body was poised in such a way it clearly seemed to say no  -- she was not having this cold white bullshit today.

relmyna smiled, her dark ear sweeping forward as she monitored astara's progress in the snow. averna followed more calmly; the wolfess saw there the difference between her children. one daring, one careful. the nightcub with the confidence of shadows; the daycub with the sun's caution.
astara quickly decided she was not fond of the snow; relmyna gave a low sound of encouragement, turning to rejoin her sable daughter. delivering a brief nudge to the back of astara's head, the wolfess glanced to averna, as if to encourage the stygian one to meet her sister.

The pale child looked back upon the dark one, but she seemed impossible to budge. After a few steps she simply plopped down in protest. Large pale ears cupped forward in silent question but soon the child was once more distracted by something she saw from the corner of her eye -- a stick sticking out of the snow -- and her questions were forgotten as she trotted over to the stick and started yanking it to try and dislodge it.

astara's resistance to change caused her dam to come over to her - with her ears pinned she begrudgingly accepted her mother's lick - it was mostly for show anyway, and secretly, astara needed her mother's validation.

averna needed no such encouragement - astara watched as she plopped to the ground and then just as quickly abamdoned it, carried by some hidden inward whim. astara had decided she was firmly not moving - and that resolve melted quickly as she saw what object had captured her pale siblng's attention.

a stick! astara wrestled with her reluctance only a second before she flew over the snow fast as she could, pouncing on both her sister and the stick in the pproess.

astara was mollified, averna distracted; relmyna had begun to settle back down once more until she spied the nature of what her palecub pursued. another stick. letting her breath slip from between her teeth in an amused huff, the delta watched with shining eyes as the nightchild leapt through the air, seeking to topple averna and thereby win yet another prize.

The stick was rather persistent -- as a matter of fact, it was actually a root that was quite firmly lodged in the earth -- and the ghost child growled as she tugged it. She managed to get a good grip as snow kicked everywhere but the stick seemed to be going nowhere. The ghost child was so focussed on the stick that she did not notice the dark one's approach, having presumed her counterpart to remain a coward as far as the snow was concerned. Therefore when paws kicked at the side of her face the pale child hadn't seen it coming and she flew into the snow as the dark one overtook her place at the game of tugging-the-stick-root.

astara hadn't meant to jostle her sister aside, but she accepted the consequence with a bullish giggle. the root, now grasped in her jaws, proved mulishly devoted to remaining in the earth. no amount of prying seemed to dissuade it from its station, and after a few hearty tugs the dark cub collapsed to the ground with a dramatic oof pressed from her small chest.

astara was beginning to tire, but astara was not. relmyna smirked to herself; it was due to the amount of energy the two expended between themselves. or perhaps the darker of the two was attempting to lull her paler sister. their mother continued to warmly observe her daughters, noting how cicero's features were beginning to reveal themselves in the pair.

Rather than being put down by being thrown to the ground, the pale child merely let out a giggle to match the dark one's. Soon the tugging on the root captivated her again, but just as she pounced towards the stick and the dark one both the dark one collapsed, giving up. This turned the pale child's attention away from the root and instead of going for the prize again she pressed her head against the dark one's shoulder and then half jumped, half clambered over the dark one and moved to rejoin their caretaker's side, inviting the dark one with a playful woof.

wrestling deeply embedded root was a hard task; astara had tired enough that she didn't even put up a fight as averna clambered atop her -- nary a growl rumbled in her little throat. she lifted her head as her pale sister flanked her mother; that reminded astara that she was hungry, and tired.

sleepily, the girl yawned wide -- lips smacking with a tired 'ayuawp'. with averna pressed against her, astara rose and followed after her sibling with sleepiness pooling her gaze.

last post from me, darlings! feel free to post once more or archive <3

the game was over; both girls trundled toward their mother with a mixture of tiredness and delight wreathing between them. relmyna nosed them each, gathering herself up to lead them back to the glen at a gentle pace. and when they had reached their destination, their mother lay down gratefully and embraced the melonii pair. her own gaze falling to half-mast, relmyna's jaws split in a large yawn, and soon thereafter she slumbered.
