All Welcome

bird remained clutched between her jaws tightly as the feline picked her way through the forest as if a creature well acquainted with it, and not one only recently arrived. feathers stuck in the fur of her chest and fluttered there; ignored until she could find somewhere satisfactory to set into her meal. the forest was full of trees that were well equipped for the task, and yet she was particular. nose wrinkled at an offending maple that neared her specifications but did not reach them, and she paused briefly before continuing on her mission.

crouched atop the sturdy branch of a cottonwood tree, aphelion was taking a well-deserved afternoon nap.

actually. well-deserved was relative. had he done anything today? absolutely not. but it was very warm, and the sunlight soaked nicely into his fluffy fur, and all he could hear was the wind in the trees and the birds chirping. it was nice. he almost felt bad for his poor siblings back with the humans, and the stuffy little houses and the boring food and the vacuum cleaner.

at the moment he wasn't asleep so much as he was dozing, his tail swaying lazily where it lolled off the branch, and while he didn't hear the pawsteps coming -- they were altogether too light -- he did, with half-open eyes, see a pale orange shape making its way through the greenery. he was immediately intrigued; he hadn't seen another cat almost since leaving his home.

though the temptation to just keep sleeping was very strong, the temptation to play won out, and after a few seconds' consideration he managed to shuffle himself around to a crouch. he peered down at the forest floor beneath, judging the distance and watching as the other cat kept on walking, and when it was right beneath him aphelion launched himself from his perch, limbs outstretched like a small furry superman, yowling eagerly as he plummeted towards the ground in a high-speed tackle.

he's looking for some fun, so he wanders farther than usual from the others. he invites @Shoegaze along — or, he loudly announces that he's going to do something interesting before he marches off. same difference. and it seems the wilds are very interesting today.
he spots the orange cat just a few seconds before something fat and white flies out of a tree with limbs outstretched, yelling and aiming directly for the other. it's shocking enough to make him pause for a second, but when he realizes it's another cat he halts his approach entirely and starts laughing. he doesn't actually have anything to contribute here, but he's content to watch how this unfolds and laugh obnoxiously the entire time.

the movement has her head snap up a moment before the yowling begins, gaze has a second to take in the massive, fluffy shape catapulting towards her. sparrow drops from her maw in an instant, and another yowl adds to the ear-splitting cacophony (she is distantly aware of laughter) as she throws herself at him, face twisted. her claws are still retracted, for now; she knows an enemy when she sees it and this mound of pale fur hardly qualifies, or so she hopes.

where kerosene goes, so does shoegaze, unless he's busy sleeping or grooming (which to be fair is a lot of the time). in any case he's along this time, nipping at kero's heels and generally making himself a nuisance because it's funny. when his colony-mate stops walking he bumps into his butt, making an annoyed trill, but doesn't get a chance to voice his complaint as he looks up in time to see a big fluffy body crash towards another orange cat. excitedly shoegaze darts around kerosene toward them, tail fluffing up as he leaps towards the big fluffy cat too, eager to join their -- whatever game it is!
join the colony
shoegaze is low priority. pp ok except for death/fatal injuries

somewhere halfway down to the ground aphelion started to hear something he could have sworn was laughter, had not the only thing he had in his sights been the orange cat who at this moment was decidedly not laughing, instead dropping the bird she had held in her jaws and yowling as she launched right back at him. the downside of taking a plunge off a tree limb? there was no dodging.

aphelion was still screeching as they collided, his not-insignificant weight driving them both to the ground. paws smacked into his nose and up against his belly, but no claws sliced into his skin, so he...rather hastily drew back his own, from where they had been keeping him from taking a tumble off the tree. he batted back at her as best he could as they rolled around on a mound of fur on the ground, speckling his well-groomed coat with dirt and bird blood, and somewhere in between avoiding a toe to the eye and breaking up his war cry with a quick breath he became aware that he had not been hallucinating the laughter after all.

he'd seen some Shit during his short tenure here that he didn't want anything to do with, mostly the oversized dogs that liked to chase him, and he'd just started doing his best to wriggle free to investigate when another furry orange ball blurred into the corner of his vision and into the melee, which did an admirable job halting his intended exit. instead, he lunged towards the newcomer with both front legs outstretched, blue eyes bright with mischief.

he refuses to be the only one left out, so when shoegaze bolts past him to dive into the chaos, kerosene is right on his heels. of course, he pounces on his friend first and foremost, but he finds it’s not the most steady footing and topples off him a moment later. He lands directly on top of the other orange cat with a yell, flailing and hitting all three of the others with stiffened limbs.
