Joining
A light drizzle fell from above, the sun was not hidden behind any clouds and it made her smile gently to herself. This was the kind of day that her mother would have called a ‘monkey’s wedding’. The memories of that saying were fond and filled with a sad kind of joy, the memories of her past were happy but she missed the days when she was still a pup. She had never needed to worry about anything and she had had a sense of belonging. It had been her own heart and head that had prompted her to leave her family, to travel the world. She enjoyed her own company, but unfortunately it brought her no home nor sense of belonging. In some senses she desired that again, but in others she liked having her independence. Finding a home would remove some of that indepence that she had become so proud of.
She looked behind her, at the rapidly disappearing land-bridge. The tide was coming in fast and she clenched her jaw, hoping that it would return at home point. She was exploring and enjoying it, but she did not want to become trapped in this place. The constant sea scent could possibly become a bother. She turned her gaze forward again, narrowing her eyes at what lay ahead of her. She stiffened after he next step as another scent reached her nostrils and her blood ran cold. This was not the scent of the ocean, rather it was the scent of others. The kind of scent that normally meant a land was claimed. She froze, glancing behind her at the now gone bridge. There was nowhere else to go.
She supposed she had to be polite and so she lifted her muzzle and called for the owners of the land, hoping they would show pity on her trapped soul.

Things on Wheeling Gull Isle are finally settling down.

While some might think that quiet is a bad thing, the Armenian is grateful for it. He’s grateful for the peace he thinks @Maegi needs, grateful for the period of mourning he knows @Coelacanth needs, and grateful for the safety in which @Fern, @Mur, @Reed, and @Droman can grow and mature in.

He patrols the shores regularly, doubling his efforts to prepare for @Reigi, @Komodo, and @Yakone’s impending departure, and when he hears the call of a newcomer he quickens his step with an answering howl to meet her there. He appreciated her forthrightness, and his tail waved slowly behind him as he cautiously approached. “Hello. I’m Stockholm. Did you need help?”

She was cautiously watching the land around her and when the male appeared she took on a defensive stance. Her eyes narrowed, her body language closed and her eyes fell in submissiveness. She kept just enough of her independent dominance in her body language to show that she would defend herself, but just enough submissiveness to show she was not looking for trouble. His approach was cautious in itself and she relaxed somewhat, allowing her tail to wag in a friendly manner. She was still guarded of course, but he did not seem ready to rip her throat out.
“I am Elenor... I seem to have misjudged the ocean” she motioned towards he now gone bridge that had brought her here, “I was not aware that this land was claimed and I do not mean to intrude yet I seem to be stuck here.” Her tone was apologetic and underlying it she was asking for a form of sanctuary. An underlying thought gave her some hope that perhaps she would find a home here… but she was not quite sure. It depended on the others that called this land home, whether she found acceptance among them.

The Armenian watches without comment as the female, Elenor, adjusts her stance to meet his approach. He keeps enough distance between them to hopefully assuage some of the unease he assumes she feels, for while his Aralez is light and gentleness incarnate, he tends to cut a more intimidating figure. “It’s easy to do,” he nods toward the stretch of water where the shore tapers off into the sea — but he doesn’t laugh. Doesn’t make light of the stranded female’s plight. Not everyone who washes up on Wheeling Gull’s shores wants to stay there indefinitely, and it isn’t in his nature to force a judgment on her.

“If you want, you’re welcome to stay here,” he offers. “Get a few good meals in, take in the scenery.” He tips back his broad muzzle, short-cropped ears folding as he calls out for his mate who, despite her nonverbal nature, would undoubtedly want to make the other female’s acquaintance.

Mild powerplay of Stockholm with permission ♥

Coelacanth was a blimp.

Elenor’s call had admittedly gone unheeded at first by the very pregnant Aralez, and the answering cry of her mate had only seemed to enforce her right to laze and doze — but Stockholm’s second howl was for Seelie specifically, so she rolled to all fours with no small amount of effort and lumbered toward the Strand. Tufted ears tipped forward upon her skull as she espied the silver-furred female, and her nares quivered as she drew nearer still; though the color of the wolf’s pelt was washed out, her scent informed the Groenendael that she was hearty and hale.

“Peace be,” she offered in a breathy whisper, her feathered tail waving genially.

Coelacanth listened as her mate introduced her, his roughhewn timbre as cordial and warm as he made the necessary introductions: “This is Coelacanth, the pack’s Aralez; Seelie, this is Elenor.” She dipped her muzzle in acceptance of her title, though she didn’t know what Elenor would think of Undersea’s somewhat unorthodox hierarchy. “Welcome,” she offered simply, wondering if the female had come for a visit or planned to stay. “Hunger? Thirst?” She endeavored to at least make Elenor comfortable until the moongilt creature was ready to make a decision.

She smiled gently at the male as he spoke. He seemed understanding of her situation and for that she was grateful, as he spoke her pose relaxed somewhat. She was still ready as ever to defend herself, but she was no longer expecting it.

“Thank you” she said softly, her voice filled with appreciation. This would be a welcome retreat, safety in numbers and easily obtained meals. Of course she would aid where asked, but being in a group was so much… easier. At this point in time she had no intention of staying forever but in time… perhaps her mind would change. She did not realise it now, but she would form bonds within the pack and as much as she would deny it she would become a member of the pack. She would become dedicated to it. Her retreat would turn into a lifetime, after all she was a wolf and a wolf needed their kin.

Stockholm’s call for another made her stiffen again and she waited in anticipation for the appearance of another. The appearance of a heavily pregnant female stunned her and a soft smile crossed her maw. Memories of her home and the younger siblings she gained over the years brought some joy to her heart. How long had it been since she had been around the young? The wilds were no place for the young.

The female seemed uncomfortably pregnant and her offer of food and water calmed her completely. She had relaxed when the female had lumbered closer and now she was completely at ease, a smile gracing her maw.

Thank you for the offer, but I am fine for now thank you” she said gently somewhat nervous, not quite sure what to say or do next and so she just smiled at the two. Her tail wagging. The customs and names here seemed strange, but she was sure she would get used to it.

The Gampr has to smile when his Groenendael, heavy with his pups, arrives with her typical charm and grace. “You’re welcome,” he says to Elenor. “We do things a little differently around here, so your rank will be Tauhou. It means ‘newcomer.’ As you get to know everyone, though, you’ll move up in no time.” He spends some time going over the pack’s ranking system, making things as brief and easy to follow as possible. He doesn’t want to overwhelm her, after all. “I hope you like puppies,” he adds, “because we’ve got a few already and a few more on the way.” His golden eyes sparkle. Naturally, he and Seelie will be protective of their young, but he has no reason to doubt Elenor until she gives him one. “Welcome to Undersea,” he says.

Welcome to the pack, Elenor! Feel free to join this thread and meet some of your packmates. Also, if you want to join the Discord, message me there on KJ#3636 ♥

Coelacanth was grateful for her mate’s eloquence; lacking it herself, she depended on him to do a lot of the talking. In the echo of her husband’s words — “Welcome to Undersea, — she offered a shy smile and tiptoed nearer to gently exchange scents with the other female. She made her movements slow and unobtrusive as she made to rub her cheek against the other female’s, but would draw away if she detected any sense of discomfort. “Welcome, Tauhou Elenor,” she whispered, and then turned with a flick of her tail. “Come, rest, belong,” she suggested in a silky susurrus, hoping the pack’s newest member would be comfortable.
