The dew still hung on sparkling droplets to the long blades of green grass as the dark, silver-ticked female tracked her way through the glade. She had caught the scent of a fox, and tailed it through the long grasses, hoping perhaps to find that it led toward prey, ike a rabbit's den. Instead, she found that the fox's trail led to a den of its own, and when she peered in- careful and ready to leap back should it become defensive- she saw a pair of gleaming eyes blink once at her before they receded back into the depths of the den, out of reach. Placidly, she left the fox to its young, and padded through the tall grass, freezing when she caught a familiar scent.

She murmured an old nickname under her breath, and studied the scent again before assuring herself that she was, in fact, correct. When she howled, her vice was light and high, tremulous and not nearly as full as a wolf's call would be. She waited, sitting among the glistening bushes in the early morning sunlight, for some sort of confirmation that her old family friend was, in fact, in the area.
