All Welcome

✴        He'd descended beyond the rendezvous site early in the morning, when the kids had been initially let loose for the day. By the afternoon he was loitering on a sun-baked ridge and followed the sun as it migrated, discovering as he went that breathing was much easier as he got lower along the mountain's range. Trying his best to be stealthy, Revui made it to the foot of the family's mountainous hold; he paused to urinate across a sapling that smelled distinctly like his parents, and moved on without a thought.

She'd set out before the rise of dawn to execute her morning routine: a brisk run around Moonspear's base until the tightness of her scars protested. Andalusia had practised the regime since committing herself to the mountain pack, and while in the early days she had found herself frustrated with her inability to endure more than a five minute's run without the pain of her wounds forcing her to rest, today she managed the entire circuit, with only the last leg of the run petering to a slower trot.

There was much progress to be made, but the Ostrega couldn't hold back the curve of a smile from touching her lips. She'd come a long way from the husk who'd been dragged from the riverbed, many thanks to Moonspear and her relatives here, and half the motivation to better her healing came from the want to repay their kindness. She would set to work soon enough, but for now, Andalusia paused in her duty to take in the moment as she routed along the base of their claim, enjoying the warmth of the morning sun and the gentle song of the birds.

✴        There wasn't much out here if you thought about it, just more of the same trees and rocks, rocks and trees, trees and rocks, rocks and — oh! But then he saw something move in the trees, a fluttering of movement or maybe just a shift of light and shadow from the humid wind; either way it piqued his interest long enough to stop him in his tracks, and Revui was looking up for a few minutes before catching another sight — a body moving along the mountain paths.

He was unsure of himself for the length of a breath, maybe, but went plunging across the irregular topography without thought, eager to close the distance and investigate this stranger. Revui was quick but he was still very young and small, so when he finally reached the spot he thought he saw the stranger's silhouette, she was already gone. He huffed to himself and looked around hastily, hardly deterred by the setback.

She raised a brow at the sound of distant footfalls and rustles, in time to catch a glimpse of a child's pale grey form bulleting toward her through the dense undergrowth. He looked like one of Amekaze's brood, and while a more docile member might have stopped to let the child catch up, Andalusia set herself forward with a quicker pace.

The Ostrega had little intention to let him go far without an escort, but this was the age for him to learn. She followed the curve of the mountain and twisted a maze through the woods, until she settled in an area of thick brush, and the scent of heavy herbs. There she stopped and lowered herself, tucked her tail close to her body, and made herself as small and concealed as possible for him to try and find.

✴        Without any way to orient himself properly, he thought he was doing a good job of keeping up and hunt down the roaming stranger. It wasn't until he found himself alone on a small forest-clad plateau that he realized his error, and was left to figure out where his target had gone. Obviously the boy was oblivious to the fact she was so close — merely watching him, far more skilled at concealing herself than he was at hunting — and Revui was left in a state of confusion. He turned around and around, investigating the dirt, some saplings, overturning a few rocks as if she had shrunken down and hidden beneath them, but no matter what he tried he could not find her. It was immensely frustrating, especially considering most of his games had been easy wins. It seemed that the older he got the more of a struggle everything was — and nobody was willing to baby the babies anymore. With a huff he continued to scour the plateau, but he was moving off from Andalusia's hiding place before long.

She watched his efforts from where she hid and inclined her ear to catch the distance of his steps when he rounded her and fell from sight. He'd done well to track her to this portion of the woods, to realize this was where she'd stopped - but by the way the soft crunch of his footfalls faded, this was where her praise would end.

Andalusia toyed with the idea of simply letting him leave, but she saw in this a potential for growth, so instead she shifted her weight to let her body graze the leaves of an adjacent shrub. The bush swayed lightly, but it was the noise she was going for - a gentle rustle, and perhaps enough of a clue to bring him around and back on course.

✴        In his short time existing he had witnessed some things, many of which were lessons by his older siblings, or his parents. He had watched them eagerly when they patrolled around the den site; he'd tried to keep up when they relocated to the rendezvous site, and was intimately jealous of his brother Arcturus for earning the attention of Hydra over himself. His brother was much more adept at this scouting thing as a result—but he had watched, he had absorbed, and knew when to pause and to listen.

When a rustling occurred in the underbrush he assumed (wrongly) that it was a mere breeze. It wasn't until he heard the crackling of branches and refuse that his head pivoted, and his ears spun to pinpoint the exact location. He was off in the next moment. Revui was not much of a thinker and preferred to do things when confronted with stimuli; between a fight-or-flight decision, he was most likely to give chase and try to tear in to an enemy versus escape from it.

Such a violent sentiment was proving true now, as he tore in to the brush and with a voice ripe with youth, roared and snapped where he thought the target was hiding.

The game continued in such a manner, until he had found her location, and then it changed briefly to something akin to rough tag; but eventually he grew tired of the struggle of it all, and left the woman to her own devices.

I tacked on an end but I can remove it if you wanna continue!
