All Welcome

set shortly after this
morning comes without the usual fanfare of birds and colours, the skies overcast and heavy, the heat unbearable as it climbs rapidly to its peak. sleep doesn't come, nor does the numbness she craves, only swirling thoughts and a building resolve. she's sought self-destruction before, but not in the singlemindedness that scares her now, even through the stark determination. she hated herself even for this, the knowledge that she hadn't been strong enough to outlast it, failure familiar now, and yet novel in all the ways it managed to cause her pain.

her unraveling comes swiftly and without any warning, though if she'd been thinking, she would have known this was to come as soon as knowledge of her brother's mateship ignited not joy, but mourning for what she'd had. jealousy.

and so she went with twisted purpose, gaze roaming over the spaces between the trees, moving ever south.

Minori kept moving around with Issun's group, never straying too far but not exactly following along side it either. She didn't feel too keen on committing to it, but she had given her word to him and she liked him and could converse freely so she stayed. Today she wandered a bit further than normal, marking every so often so she could find her way back and then track the group from there on.

It hadn't been the best day, she hadn't been able to find food and the buck that her and Issun had taken down was eaten between Him, herself and His sister. She  hadn't expected nor wanted to stumble upon anyone else so when a Gray furred girl ambled into her path she let out a low growl of frustration, not meaning it to be rude but sounding so anyway. Refusing to alter course she just continued onward, hoping the female said nothing to her. She wasn't in a company mood.

it was so easy. as if summoned by the rolling darkness of her thoughts, inkstain cut across her path suddenly and angrily, low growl sent her way and nothing else. it was met with a snarl of her own, quick and spat like something sour lingered on the back of her tongue.

"the hell's your problem?" she paused, molten gaze finding the rear of the woman, thoughts melting away as instinct and anger began to take over; relief at this intended result quick and fast-fading.

As soon as the other female let loose a snarl of her own, Minori was turned around and heading back to face her. Temper surging she curled her lip and looked the other girl up and down in a nasty way, snorting. "My problem...is when little girls don't think before they growl" she said. This wasn't her problem really but she decided that she could use a good fight and since this girl had growled at her when she hadn't meant her own growl to be taken personally, this was a good opportunity for one. She had picked up on more English slowly from being around Issun and could manage to converse somewhat well now so she used that fact to try and provoke the other further. She also figured she wasn't the older one here but nobody liked being called a little girl, so she used the term anyway "Back off" she ordered.

something in her sang and burned, and the woman knew well she was no fighter, but she wanted this. she pulled her tail high, gaze not bothering to size up the woman but burning, hawkishly, into her own gaze. "are you going to make me?" a threat whispered with one of the wild grins that used to tug often at her muzzle; yet this one was empty of happiness and filled only with bitter anger. it seemed both wanted to test the other, and tension built up so much faster and easier than she'd hoped.

Her eyes narrowed and slowly lifted to see that the girl raised her tail in challenge before quickly returning to meet the fiery gaze. Minori raised her own tail to match and snarled in return to the challenging words "Yes. she said simply and then lunged, raising her forelegs off the ground and wrapping them around the girl's neck. Her fangs parted and grabbed onto the girl's ear, canines piercing the tip where the flesh was thin and ripping it off. Dropping back down to the ground she gave no moment to breathe, instead lunging again and seeking to take hold of any flesh around her face that she could grab.

I assumed the pp of ear ripping was okay?

the woman moved, wrapping her limbs around the woman's throat in a move that would surely have grave repercussions with any wolf experienced in the art of battle, yet not the huntress, who's domain was the chase and swift kill, not his frantic dance.

when the woman began to drop off her, ear throbbing in pain, Dawn pushed forward suddenly, throwing all her weight against the woman and seeking to bowl her over. her chest met the woman's, and she could only hope that the bites against her face wouldn't land and the woman's unbalanced position would allow the huntress to bowel her over.

As she lunged forward the other followed suit and their bodies collided with a solid thud. The movement jarred Minori and threw her off balance which mixed with the continuous pushing against her body, made her begin to topple. Even so she continued to snap her jaws and managed to grab hold of the flesh around her maw, fangs sinking in and holding as she fell over.

She yanked the girl downward by the face and with her forepaws began to claw and scratch at the areas around and beneath the girl's eyes as she twisted her body to position her hind legs beneath the woman. She would wait before attempting to do what she was setting herself up for, for now settling on aggravating and causing as much pain as possible.

claws, dull and irksome, drove at her face, and her gaze shuttered closed instinctively. pain was kept at bay by soaring adrenaline, and she whipped her head manically from side to side. fangs tore and loosened from the bottom of her muzzle, and her own forepaws moved to scrabble at the woman's throat, seeking to apply pressure there as her muzzle was otherwise occupied.

Her fangs were shaken free and immediately pressure was applied to her throat, large paws cutting off her oxygen. Minori choked and quickly assumed position, her hind legs swiftly tucking and then kicking right into Dawn's hind legs and sweeping them out from under her. While that happened she squirmed free and stood up, breathing deeply and then pouncing, trying to land on top of the now fallen girl. "Do you surrender?" she snarled through bared fangs.

she was down on her back without much effort from the stranger's part, her complete incompetence gradually becoming apparent. muzzle wrinkled, fangs on display, when the stranger asked her submission. she would not, could not,  not now. the obvious solution would be to twist fulling onto her stomach and kick the girl off, but instead the huntress aimed a snapping bite at her face, gaze molten still.

Minori almost laughed at the girl's refusal to give in. It was stupid, it was very stupid and yet it was very much how she was when she wod challenge the more experienced soldiers back home. It always earned her a beating so Minori didn't hesitate to continue and teach this girl her lesson. She jumped right on top of the girl and right into the bite, pulling back too late teeth tearing her flesh. It opened a good gash in her cheek and she snarled, anger renewed. She pulled a paw back and struck the girl in her windpipe, hard enough to halt breathing for a few moments. After she did Minori lunged, aiming to bite into and hold the girl's throat and squeeze until submission was given.

fangs rent flesh, and retribution was swift when the blow crushed her windpipe, driving the breath from her lungs easily. dark infringes upon the edges of her vision, the blue plain above her fading a moment and then the woman's jaws are around her neck. stupid, so stupid.

but it works. there is only pain and adrenaline, and her breath comes quickly as the rage leaches quickly from her gaze, something that may be mistaken for submission. she lays still beneath the stranger, knowing this is stupid, and dangerous, but the adrenaline keeps away the crushing thought of more disappointment.

As soon as the other began to still, she knew she had won the fight. Even so, a lesson was to be dealt. She squeezed harder, snarling once and shaking her by the throat back and forth repeatedly to disorient and stun the girl. Her tail raised above her back and after she had tired herself out shaking the senses out of the girl she released her. "Just know that I wasn't growling at you. I wanted to be alone. When you crossed my path, it was aggravating and annoying but I would have continued onward if you hadn't snapped" she spat the words out between pants of breathe. One more time she curled her lip and placed her paw over the area between the girl's throat and chest and pushed down ever so gently. "I don't kill without reason and neither do I maim. Stay down until I am gone, understand?" she asked, gaze cold and fierce.

the girl trashes above her, tearing gashes into the delicate skin beneath the thick coat that shields most of her from harm. she draws in breath, fighting not to let go, not now. she's speaking, but Dawn doesn't listen, doesn't hear the words growled around her throat. her gaze snaps back only when the woman speaks of maiming, and she understands that she is to be released from the woman's grip.

she is a sinner, Aditya said so, and surely she deserves worst than this. "no." a vague, empty attempt to have the woman do worst than this. her gaze has lost its fire, it's rage, and she longs for physical retribution as surely she deserves, not just to divert the rive but to even the odds.

Minori freezes and confusion wracks her gaze as the girl refuses the offer. She studies the expression and pays attention to the tone used and scoffs at her. There was no anger and no challenge in the girl's tone, just a sort of emptiness that Minori understood. Images of her brother staring at her with pain filled eyes, shouting accusations of betrayal, crimson stains on the ground filled her mind for a moment before she shook her head.

Yes, she thought  understood it all too well and therefore she would give what was wanted. Curling her fangs she snapped her jaws forward, using her paws to hold the girl down and tore wounds wide across the shoulders of the girl. After blood stained the ground beneath them, Minori stopped and stepped off. She had done some nasty damage but nothing that wouldn't heal. The girl's shoulders were bloody and shredded, her ear was torn and her throat had some nasty bite wounds. "Physical wounds don't fix emotional ones. Whatever happened, own up to it" she spat out and stared at the girl. "I am leaving. I won't do more" she said and turned, running away.

pain blossomed across her shoulders, sharp and sudden and deserving. her breath hitched, but gaze remained fixed on the woman, accepting. then she was gone, the huntress only half-hearing what she'd before vanishing, and not particularly caring. she'd gotten what she wanted, the pain of the wounds competing with that familiar crushing hurt around her chest. breath rushed back into her throat, low hiss escaping her.

it wasn't enough. some part of her felt glad at the twisted righteousness, but some other, larger part, lay disgusted and ashamed. it wasn't the same as it had been the first time she'd sought this, didn't work, didn't cover it. she rolled over onto her side, drawing her limbs close.

and then something snapped, and the grief was finally and fully allowed to flow. when first it had burned when she'd shoved it deep, it broke now the carefully constructed dams she'd erected. her mouth began to move, murmuring apologies, soft and muttered and then growing fervent and quick. to her father, to easy, to dauntless, to sunny and to aditya. and she let the grief consume her and for once, did not feel ashamed at it.
