Bazi wasn’t entirely sure how to receive the Creek’s delivery.

She had been lounging by the water’s edge, front legs half submerged in the cool water and teeth working at the unsightly yellow stains that summer had seen fit to decorate her knees with. The sound of choking brought her head up from the task, and there was a wolf, splashing around like a hairy, handicapped frog in the very center of the river. A flash of red fur sparked a moment of panic in the ghostly Beta, but Fox was not Lethe, nor was she stupid enough to tumble into the water - no resident of Swiftcurrent was. If the current got hold of you, you faced near certain death, whether by drowning or having your head smacked against the riverbed like a ragdoll.

Bazi pulled her legs out of the water rushed into action, driven by the need to properly eject the trespasser more than a desire to save a life. The river took its time playing with Leaf’s small body, giving her rescuer plenty of time run ahead, locate a fallen branch (six or seven feet’s worth), haul it to the narrowest upcoming section of river, and wait for a bite.
