[ooc]AW, but perhaps her third son?[/b]

Blue willow, walked and sniffed at nearby herbs, ever so often grabbing some with her teeth, and pulling them from the ground, to pack into a nearby piece of bark she carried. She was trying ot keep her stock up as Winter came. She had searched and found her two oldest children and now it was time for some mom and son time with @Casmir

She finished pulling the last bit of plants from the nearby area and looked at the small stock pile she had. It wasn't much, but it would help boost what she already had. Lifting her muzzle to the sky she called out for her youngest son. She hoped he would come and speak with her. She missed him, she missed all of them. She knew they were growing on their own, and into their own. Soon to be adults. She wanted to be included, find out some of their truths and hobbies. She knew some of them others she didn't, her babes they were wildly independent.
Casmir had grown into a fiercely independent, somewhat distant young wolf, with his intentions upon the co-rank of outrider, and a tendency to wander far distances. yet even he heeded his mother, and her voice called him from where he had been contemplating an afternoon nap beneath a thicket of brambles and honeysuckle. long lopes carried him into her presence; he was taller than her now by a hair, but ducked his body in deference to her rank and role as his mother.

"what did you call me for, mama?" the boy asked, slipping easily into juvenile vernacular now that there were no siblings around to tease him for such. the last time she had called him like this, there had been a cool scavenger hunt, and he cast his eyes about to see if she had hidden anything.
Blue sat and waited for Casmir, briefly thinking of her youngest boy. His had been a hard early months, and for the longest time she had feared the worst. He had however proven them all wrong. She figured that much like his father in build, mannerism and such he had also gotten his father's hardy, healthy nature. He was a wanderer much like his father was. He however always came home.

Blue smiled at his juvenile tendencies. She ghosted forward and nuzzled his shoulder. Knowing full well that he probably felt too old for this, and frankly not caring. Just as Connie, he would have to deal with her mothering even on into his golden years. I simply wanted to spend some time with you. A hunt, a game, just a chat. Whatever you like? I miss you.
while he would have liked to pretend he didn't care, the fact of the matter was that Cas cared very much for his mother. as the healer slipped forward to nudge her, the boy lowered his muzzle and licked her eartip. "we can do whatever you want," he chuckled. "i'm game." he chuffed. rocking back onto his haunches, he grinned mischievously at his mother. "i've been tracking a herd of deer. do you think i could take one down alone, mama?" he asked, knowing full well she would try and dissuade him from it.
Blue had to smile at the show of affection from her youngest son. It wasn't often that he was affectionate, preferring to act as grown up as he could. She wondered briefly if it was merely a boy thing? She had always enjoyed her puppy hood, even playing into her adult hood. Perhaps she was just a little more simple minded about the little things than most.

Blue frowned at him and shook her head a small tsk in her throat. But her frown quickly turned into a gentle smile, for she knew he was goading. I don't think you could on your own no, but maybe you're a big boy. But perhaps the two of us could take down a rather small one if we can get it away from the herd, if that is what you want to do? She nibbled at the inside of her cheek wanting to flutter and fuss about him. Fearful of the young man getting an injury as his father did. She had to fight to keep her fear to herself.
"naw," he chuckled. "i'm cool with eatin' varmints," Cas teased his mom, exaggerating an accent he had been perfecting for days. "i went to the hot springs a  while back and met this cool dude named Charon. he's a beta. mom, do you think i could be a leader?" perhaps he did not know, or did not care, but the boy believed that the titles were hereditary, and trio should rule once blue willow and lasher had stepped aside.

he peered at his mother quizzically, waiting for her answer. at any rate, he shouldn't have to fight for the rank, right? seeing as how he was the son of the current beta and all.
Blue chuckled quietly and studied him gently. You remind me a bit of your grandfather. You would have liked him I think. His name was Sun Spark and he was my best friend. Blue frowned for a moment lost in thought about her dad. She missed him a lot, more than she had realized she would. His next question caught her off guard. She hadn’t really thought about their children wanting leadership. Thinking they would prefer their lot where they were. She however supposed that it was only natural, she and Lasher were both Beta’s. She herself had been an alpha.

I think you could if you work hard and contribute to the pack and can rule fairly. And if Dante decides you would be a good fit for the rank. I didn’t realize you wanted to be a beta Cas. It’s a big responsibility.
he mused over what she had said -- to his knowledge, his mom had never talked about her dad before. "Sun Spark," he repeated, liking the sound of the name. the Mayfair boy was pleased that Blue Willow was reminded of his grandfather, and stood a little taller under the praise. "well, i sorta want to be alpha," he corrected, revealing his aspirations, "but i also want to travel a lot, you know? so i'm not sure what to do."

"how is it a big responsibility?" was his next question. he knew that there was a lot that being a ruler entailed; he was just not sure of the logistics and details. resting his eyes on his mother's face, he awaited her explanation.
Sorry for the delay. My kids have literally been sick for two weeks. It started with tummy bugs, turned into more, then it turned into sinus infections and lastly ear infections. The weather needs to figure out what it is doing it's making everybody sick. Warm one day freezing the next.

Blue listened, Aspirations are good to have. Goals also, there is nothing wrong with an alpha traveling as long as he has good beta's and he returns home often. It's not ideal of course, but I am sure a pack could make it work. You know your father and I were both travelers. I actually never had a home of my own until I was 3. Then I settled here. Your grandparents and I were traveling storytellers and healers.

Blue settled to her haunches and stretched for a moment, thinking hard. How to best answer his question without causing him to stop the goal, the want to lead. It was not good to stop on a child's dreams, not matter their age.

Well for starters you are responsible for others, so you cannot let your emotions rule you. You have to think with your head and not your heart. That was harder for me. Also you have to make sure those beneath you are taken care of, that they have food, shelter a home. But you also have to have rules and enforce them. You are not only responsible for your own life, but everyone in your packs.

he listened as his mother spoke -- like most kids, he found his parents long-winded, but Blue Willow held his flighty attention with her careful explanation. with the crushing weight of the entire pack on him, Cas wasn't sure how Dante managed to look so calm all the time. But his parents were good leaders, right? so maybe that was part of it. after she had finished, he was quiet for a long time, thinking to himself.

"will you tell me more about my grandparents?" the boy asked, deciding to set aside talk of being a leader for now. it was a subject he would revisit at a later time.
