Esaro was recently distracted by a rabbit. All he wanted to do was catch it and share with other member of the pack. Somewhere along the line it was also to prove that he is capable of hunting. He was very determined and has yet to let it go even if it managed to escape him. Catching it would help him so much in trying to prove himself worthy enough to be useful to the pack. That was what he believed.

The escapee managed to hide somewhere close by in these woods. The snowy trail made it easy to find out where it went. It likely ran into a hole or took cover behind some bushes. Esaro wasn't exactly sure how he would catch it afterwards. He circled a few bushes and finally found one where the rabbit was likely hiding in.

Without any plan he was simply waiting for the rabbit to come out. He hid in another bush while keeping an eye on the rabbit's bush. Maybe it will forget that he was there and come out slowly and once it does he would surely catch it. So all he needed to do was wait it out.
Laika plodded through the thick snow. It had snowed overnight, covering the forest with yet another thick blanket of whiteness. The female took in a deep, refreshing breathe, but also taking in the scent of another Phoenix Maplewood member. It was a knew scent, however. Probably one of the newer recruits. She smiled, remembering when she was recruited. She haven't been in the pack for long just yet, not even a week, so she knew how this wolf must feel.

She slunk up on silent paws, her silver fur concealing her against the snow covered background. They only thing that popped out about her in this time of year, her her ice blue eyes. They spotted the wolf hiding beneath a bush, barely visible between the frozen leaves. Yet another scent made its way to her nose. Rabbit!

Judging by the way the male was staring so intently at the bush across from him, she figured he was waiting for the rabbit who was hiding in the bush. But, she could be wrong. He could just be staring at a bush.

"Hey," she barked in a hushed voice, now barely 2 feet away from the wolf. "Are you hunting the rabbit I smell?"

She twitched her silver ears, realizing she may have been rude in the way she phrased things. "I'm Laika. I could give you a hand if you'd like."
So far, there was no movement. Esaro was surely focused, there was no way he could miss the rabbit at this point. It's there and he knows it. However, the catch would be impossible if he just charged in. Waiting for the rabbit to make it's move seem to be the best choice right now. As preparation he was ready to sprint at any moment. After a large number of seconds time just left like it stopped, there was just no movement.

He suddenly began hearing a whispering voice. It sounded soothing as if there was a spirit talking to him. Esaro didn't dare look around, he continued to focus all his attention on the bush. Looking away for one second could cost the whole hunt. The Spirit called herself Laika and offered some assistance. He showed a confused looking clearly saying 'what?'. A spirit can't really help can it?

It didn't take long for him to give in to the temptation to look away to see where the voice was coming from. He finally turned with his confused look and just realized that there was another wolf near him. How long has she been there? He had never notice her presence until now. "Oh. sorry, I thought you were a spirit." He asked in a quite loud tone. Speaking out loud made the rabbit sprint out suddenly.

Esaro noticed and reacted to the movement and took off sprinting after it. "There it goes! I'll get it this time!" The rabbit ran into another hiding spot not far from where they were. That hole was part of a fallen old tree trunk. He nose dived into that hole but it wasn't large enough to get his head through. The rabbit was barely in reach, he just needed to push farther in. As he tried the trunk was cracking and he felt like he was getting closer to the trapped rabbit.
Laika chuckled, jumping in surprise as the rabbit came dashing out. She watched as the wolf dove after it, kicking up puffs of snow as he went. He seemed very intent on catching that rabbit.

She chuckled again at the thought of being a spirit. A spirit?! She followed the wolf a few yards behind, tail wagging in excitement. The wolf was digging at a whole, probably another escape route for the prey. She sat down on her haunches and let him do his thing, head tilting just a bit.

She could tell he was almost at the rabbit, and didn't intervene. She remembers when Spring ruined her first hunt. Boy was she mad. But that quarrel had turned into a memory the two could muse over now.
After one more forceful push, his head got farther into the hole where the rabbit was. He finally got hold of it but he couldn't kill it like this. He needed to pull it out of the old tree trunk. At the first attempt to pull out he realized he was a bit stuck. He decided to use all his legs and push as hard as he could.

He used so much force that the wood around his head shattered into pieces. Esaro didn't expect it the be that easy as was tossed into a sitting position and then falling onto his back. The real problem here was that he accidentally let go of the rabbit in the process! It was catapulted directly towards the female that followed.

Was the rabbit going to get away again? How much effort was he going to have to put in this in order to finally catch it? If he couldn't hunt a rabbit alone then how was he ever going to prove himself useful to the pack? He had to keep his promise one way or another but so far he has yet to show that he was even capable of even supporting himself.

No, this time he will catch it! He rotated back onto his paws and leap towards the rabbit that was in midair. Somehow he managed to jump much faster than he was used to and caught the rabbit again. Now all he needed to do was land but as unexpected the female was, she just happen to be there in front of him. There was no way he could avoid her. He didn't have a tight grip on the rabbit either, he was going to lose it again if he crashes into her.
Laila's eyes widened as the rabbit began to tumble through the air towards her, looking equally frightened. She braced herself, ready to leap into the air and snatch it once it was close enough. But wait, the male whipped back around and grabbed it in mid air. He obviously has some skil, she just didn't know how to use it.

Just then, she realized it wasn't just the rabbit flying toward her now. She helped and darted half-way out of the way, for that was as much time life gave her before leaving the male came crashing down on her tail.

The pain shot up her spine, throbbing in her head before returning to her tail. It was horrible pain, but Laika kept quite, clenching her jaw shut.
Esaro tighten his grip as much as he could before crashing onto the female's tail. She must have tried to dodge him but just wasn't fast enough. However, her efforts allowed him to keep his hold on the rabbit. Quickly he placed his paws on the rabbit to keep it still on the ground and then finished it off once and for all. He finally managed to catch a rabbit all alone he thought. Until he noticed he was on the female's tail. In this case he wasn't exactly alone so it wasn't actually possible to say he did the whole hunt alone.

This was a glorious victory for Esaro even if he had some kind of help. He wanted to express himself so his attention turn towards the fellow pack member. Only when he noticed her expression, he quickly got off her tail. He was likely on it for a couple of seconds. He felt bad for not getting off sooner, he never wanted to hurt anyone besides his prey.

He circled her once then stopped in front. He drop the rabbit in front of her. "I'm really sorry for that, I didn't see you." He said, apologizing. To make it up to her he decided to offer the rabbit he caught. "Here, I was counting on sharing it with whoever I come across. But you can have it all if you want." He said as he push the dead rabbit to her. Esaro victory feeling was overcome by some guilt. It's his fault for not seeing her so he needed to do something in return.
Laika smiled greatfully, the pain in her tail subsiding.

"You should have it. You worked so hard to get it!" She replied with a slight smirk of amusement. "I can tell you have lots of skill. The turn to catch the rabbit was amazing!"

She bent down and nosed the rabbit back to the male. She let her tongue loll lazily.

"As you know, I'm Laika. What should I call you?"
It's true that he did put a lot of effort into catching a rabbit, perhaps too much compare to other wolves. At the very least he could say he can catch them. He did enjoy his victory for a moment but there was a feeling the he would have to do much more to prove his worth. He took a deep breath then exhaled. He was going to have to do much better than that. The event here did give him a bit more confidence compare to the start.

He pushed to rabbit back towards Laika. "I was just lucky, I couldn't let that rabbit get away after all the time I spent hunting it. I'd prefer that you take it, I did hurt you at the end so it's only fair if you have it." He leaned to the side to look at her tail. There wasn't any noticeable damage he could see.

"I'm Esaro." Then he chuckled. "I still can't believe I thought you were a spirit. How silly of me." At the same time he did wish he could hear spirits, mainly those of his family. He missed them a lot. What pushes him on were the hopes they had for him. It was his duty to make them proud. Right now was a happy moment. He made a new friend. He gave her a small smile and continued to insist on her taking the rabbit.
Laika smiled again. He pushed the rabbit back towards her, insisting. She wagged her tail a bit, despite the slight ache.

"Fine." She said, laughing. "We'll share it!"

She gave him a look, daring him to protest. She watched him work so hard to catch the rabbit, even though she knew he would've caught it eventually. Her tail barely hurt now, so it didn't bother her.

"You didn't hurt me that bad! Plus, it barely bothers me anymore." She barked. "It's nice to meet you Esaro."

She smiled warmly and laughed once more.

I am dying! My posts are getting so short!!
I usually write my characters thoughts and feelings of things along with the reasons for that. The goal with this character is to create bonds with many different wolves. The Stronger the better! :P Your short post are fine, I can still manage to understand a little more than what was written. Anyway the true goal is the have fun! and I'm having fun so far, what about you?

Sharing was the first thing he would have done if he had never harmed her. She claims that her tail wasn't bothering her anymore but for Esaro he would feel better if he could give more than intended. Because he hurt her, he felt like he owed her something. "No, the rabbit is all yours." He insisted once more but after he said that he started to feel a little hungry. He decided to keep his eyes off the rabbit and look into Laika's eyes. Her blue eyes had a bit of green in them. If there was one thing he could say about them it would be that they were pretty.

He wouldn't mind sharing the rabbit now but he had already insisted that takes the whole thing and does what she wants with it all. He wasn't going to ask for her to share it after telling her it's all hers. "I was really going to share the rabbit in the first place so you can have the whole thing since I hurt your tail. It's my way to say sorry." He could always try to hunt down another and if the worst was to come he could always take a little from the what the pack hunted.

Still Esaro did find himself looking to her eyes for a while now. "Well it's nice to meet you too Laika." He said with a small smile. "Has anyone told you that you had pretty eyes?" He added. Esaro had the habit of being quite direct and honest with what he believed. All that would mean he doesn't lie but also doesn't really keep to himself either.

Laika did seem to be a cheerful happy type, which was someone Esaro would usually enjoy being with. Although he just met her he felt very at ease, not once was he nervous which was a first compared to the others he met.
I am having tons of fun! Sorry it took me a while to get back to ya! Had a horse show to compete in! :D

Laika rolled her eyes. Fine! She might as well take it! He kept on insisting and insisting, what else could she do? Her eyes diverted from Esaro to the rabbit, crouching down to sniff it. It was indeed a nice, plump rabbit. Then it hit her. Where could it be getting all that food? Maybe it could have stocked up for winter, but rabbits don't do that, do they? She decided she would follow the rabbits tracks later on. Maybe she could find some herbs for Reek and Spring.

"Thank you Esaro." Laika barked, taking small bites of the thick, delicious meat. She felt her stomach rumble in a happy manner, finally pleased with its meal.

When she was done, Laika sat up again, licking her lips to clean any morsels or blood from the white fur. Her tongue retreated back into her mouth and she listened to what Esaro was saying. Beforehand, she hadn't been paying much attention to what the male was saying, too distracted in going through the territory in her mind and making sure there were no hints to where the rabbit could be getting its food. But she captured two words out of his last sentence. Pretty eyes. She suddenly felt a bit awkward, her head cocking and silver ears twitching. She blinked a couple times, not sure what to say.

"Um.. No?" She replied, looking at a tree trunk behind Esaro, feeling distracted again.
ooh, horses, I always wanted to ride one :P Don't worry I'm usually happy with one post per day from someone but after someone starts taking several days it starts getting hard to stay attached and interested. I'll bite if you don't reply within a week because.. um I like to make things move and fun C:<

Having to watch Laika take a few bites made his mouth water. Sharing the rabbit sounded like it would be completely fine now even if he hurt her. He had already made his decision so he was just going to have to deal with it. He start to lick around his lips. It was obvious he wanted a bite, but he remained silent on the matter.

Esaro did find it strange that no one else has complimented her eyes. They were nice to look at, unlike his golden eyes which felt too common. Although he didn't get the fact that she was distracted by what was behind him. "You mean no one has said anything about your eyes until now?" He couldn't really imagine that surely there had to be someone else who said the same before.

"Where does your skills lie?" He asked without giving much time for a response for his first question. His mind was already switched towards learning about others. Ukko so far seem to be a skill fighter while Spring has shown skills in using herbs and such. They have something great to offer the pack. Esaro's levels were quite low in all these trades. Laika likely had something that made her useful and that was something he wanted to learn about. Mainly so he could compare himself and set a goal for where his skill level must reach.
Laika did notice his movement and his tongue flicking in and out with licks of his lips. She promised silently to herself to make sure he got at least a bite of what she caught later today. When he asked her again about her eyes and smirked.

"No, no one has told me about my eyes before." She chuckled, and dancing. She wagged her tail.

She nodded has he kept going, barely letting her sentence finish before jumping in with another question. She knew the answer to that. Easily!

"I guess I'm best at hunting and fighting. I proved my hunting skills to Reek on my first day here." She laughed, remembering the alpha's expression after she came down from the ledge and onto the deer, killing it easily. But, being a mostly humble wolf, she shortened the story. "We caught a deer together."

She say back on her rump even more that she was before, almost leaning back to she could lap at her front left paw, feeling an itch. Then, she turned back up, cocking her head curiously as she stared at Esaro.

"What are you're skills, Esaro?"

Yeah. Horses are pretty awesome. ^.^ Me too, I like consistent RPs.
It looks like he was the first to compliment her eyes. His guess was that maybe the others decided not to say anything but he did want to know their opinion. It's was now something he would talk about once he comes across other members.

Laika really did look like a fun wolf to play with. Her movements do say she has energy and it felt like that energy was spilling over onto Esaro. He expressed this energy by leaning side to side once he sat down, he couldn't sit still. If he had never brought the subject of skill he would have likely tried playing so sort of game with her. Instead Esaro got what he asked for. He believed her completely even if she has never shown him her skill level. So far all members he met say they can fight and Esaro likely proved that he didn't have the skills for it.

Every member had talent in something but he didn't find any on his side. The thought made some of his happy feeling disappear. "You've already caught a deer? The largest prey I ever caught was a rabbit. I never hunted as a group, probably because I didn't have talent in hunting. But it feels like it's the same case for everything else. There isn't anything I'm good at, everyone else can do everything better than me." He said as he looked away from Laika. He was being honest with himself and it was really what he believed and it all felt true.
Laika watched him rock back and forth on his launches with a quizzical look, laughing silently inside. She shifted her weght, then finally lay down, letting the cold snow dampen her fur. But, she frowned when he told her he had no talent in anything. Every wolf had a special skill, no madder how valuable that skill was. Instead of commenting on his negative sentence, she asked him another question.

"When was your greatest accomplishment in your life so far? Where was it? What were you doing to accomplish it?"

The female let those words slip out surprisingly easily, almost like nectar. She looked at him quite intently, waiting for a very honest answer. He had been honest with her before so why wouldn't be answer truthfully now? Still, she wasn't about to let anything slip.
"I've never done anything great.." It was at the start of this whole adventure that he realized he has done nothing great. The only thing that he could say was, he was there. He existed and that was about it. "I haven't saved anyone nor ever been in a real fight or ever joined a group hunt." He said as he listed the list of achievements that are worth saying. Esaro has currently done nothing great, really nothing at all. He may not be talented or be even close to special but he had already accepted that so to keep things slightly cheerful he decided to look at Laika with a little smile.

He got up and tapped her chest with his paw. "I'm still alive right? That means there is still a chance that I can do something great if I really work hard at it, even if I don't have a gift it should still be possible." He said mainly to keep his own spirit up as well as not to sour the fun mood he was in. He still worries that he might not be able to handle all the hard work but he doesn't really have any other choice by to continue and try. It is the promise he made for being here.

Then he looked down at the rabbit. "Was the rabbit worth catching?" he asked since he didn't get a chance to really taste it and compare. He got himself back into a playful mood. Perhaps he could get her to play a game of tag or something fun like that. Esaro was good at running like all wolves but it wasn't consider as a skill to him.

If you want we can end the thread by fading out while they start playing tag or something. your call :P
Sure. Anything works! Good idea

Laika frowned again when he wouldn't answer her question, but the smile reappeared on her lips once he poked her in the chest wth a light paw. She laughed just a bit, listening to what he said. Her ears twitches back and forth in interest. She smiled back

"It was delicious!!"

She licked her itching paw again, annoyed at how much it itches. Finally, when the sensation left, she place her nimble foot back on the ground with a satisfied grunt. She looked around, wondering what to do next. She shook her white fur and just sat there.
The taste of rabbit looked like it didn't change. He did travel far to get here and it just made him wonder if prey would have a different taste compare to what they taste like at home. He was glad to know they were still good here. Could prey ever begin to start tasting bad? Esaro began believing that it would never change.

To continue interacting with her he could ask more questions. But that felt a little too boring to do. He wanted to switch to something fun. He had ready set up everything in order, all he had to do now was launch it and see if Laika follows along.

"Alright." he said with a grin. Then he jumped back away form her "I tagged you, so that means you are it!" and to provoke her even more "I bet you can't catch me!"

He immediately started running away. The idea was fun that he couldn't help giggling a bit as he ran. He did expect her to follow so he wasn't going to look behind him. Of course he wouldn't run at full speed until he heard her steps following him.

Last post from me! When ever you are ready we can start another thread, perhaps one where Laika shares a bit of her catch as hinted in your post!
Yes, this will be my last post too. I can start a thread where Laika follows the rabbits trails to see if there are any herbs to be found, and she can catch something along the way. ;)

Laika laughed as he jumped back, darting away from her and into the bushes. She waited until he was out of sight, but still within earshot before charging after him. She had managed to memorize most of the territory, for she had been here for about a week. She swerved left and headed up the same slope she used to catch the deer, racing along the edge with excitement.

As it started to slope down, Laika built up extra speed. She could now see Esaro racing through the undergrowth just a few feet below. With a little giggle she leapt down, whipping around and cutting him off in his tracks. She was sure to catch him now!
