Venus was tromping along the mire, the place were Macbeth had fallen it had already frozen over. Today, she was in a particularly bad mood. Everyone could smell she was in heat, from a mile away. She walked along the border, maybe she would meet up with a loner she could ruff up a bit. Today she wanted blood on her teeth and nothing else. She wanted to stay away from @Cyn, because of her bad mood, but her body told her to go find her. Venus lashed her tail, and kept her head low as she walked. Her ears flashed back and forth, picking up sounds of the forest. She had to constant fear of someone finding her, and it would t be let down for a long time.
Burke was not close to the mire today. He had the feeling that not a lot of pack mates would thread into the swamp area in winter, it was quite a traitorous place. He followed a fresh scent from Venus, not really keen on finding her death in the swamps. If one would head in alone one might never get out of there, so being the good alpha he was, he looked out for his members.

Yet when he came close, the hints of what he smelled before became worse. Ah, heat. Burke was tempted, but he also knew that Venus and Cyn had mated now. A couple. He had never met mates of the same sex but if that is what they liked then Burke wouldn't stop them. "Venus, the swamps are extra dangerous this time," he pointed out to her, indirectly calling her back, trying to ignore her scent.
Venus was quick to hear the voice of her leader from behind. She turned around, tucking her tail in to hide the scent. "Hey, thanks Burke. I just really enjoy being near here." She said, and started walking towards him. She was embarrassed she was in heat, even though it was a natural cycle. She dipped her head once she got closer.
Burke watched her tail go down, trying to hide something that could not be held in place by anything. The male looked at her with a bit of a skeptical gaze as she stepped closer. "You are not going to hide that smell, Venus," he pointed out bluntly. He was in no mood to be toyed with today. Yes, he wanted to make sure she was okay being a counselor but little things as trying to hide it from it were annoying him. Like he was stupid enough to magically not smell her scent as her tail was down.

"Why would you like it here? There are fumes and each step you take can be your death sentence with these deep snows coving most of it," he returned to her and looked to the side over the land they could barely use, still Burke made sure to claim part of it as a buffer of their woods. He had to go through these lands scent marking but it was worth it in the end.
Venus wanted the scent to disappear, but that was not realistic. Keeping the scent as close to her body as she could is all she could do. She was happy to see Burke had not turned under a spell, like Xan and Mikasi had. She released her tail to now just a normal hanging posture. Venus focused her ears on Burkes question. "I really like the area, and not a whole bunch of people come here, so it's a free area to be in." she explained, and smiled a bit.
Burke had experienced many females in heat during his life time. He knew how to deal with it. Especially after he knew what would happen if you would breed every female in heat. Sebastian was the living proof of that. He hadn't heard from the young wolf in a long time. Nemesis was going to RHC with ... Venus was it? Burke squinted his eyes now he remembered. "A free area that could kill you," he pointed out to her.

"On another topic. You and Nemesis. I told you to scout RHC. None of you ever reported back," he stated with a hint of disapproval. If Venus wanted to be a spy she had been saying when joining then she would need to learn. "What happened," he questioned. Burke then looked at her. "You have been in this pack a while now. Have you even been working on becoming a spy?," he then asked sharply.
Venus didn't say anything about the death trap she sat in. "Yes, we went. We didn't see anything of to much importance, we did not see Sebastian. So we assume he left," she said. "I have not given up on spy work, I still do small training sessions by my self. I am also working very hard to become a healer." she said. She was really trying to be respectful, and it showed she was respectful. She was in a nasty mood, so it was hard to get through.
Burke nodded slowly when she started to talk. Even though her explanation was that there was nothing interesting Burke did want to know what had happened. "Next time you come tell me straight away if you ever want to be a spy," he pointed out to her. He did approve of her working on her healer. He had heard from Kendra that Venus had been teaching her things about plants so at least she was showing that she was working on her trade. "Alright. But don't forget your spy," he pointed out to her. "And with that I mean not hanging out here in these swamps. We will need a healer and I would not like to lose another one," he added.
Venus needed to work harder on her Spy work, but there were no missions she could really preform currently. She nodded, she was helping Kendra quite a bit. She was very interested in becoming a healer, and it would mean a lot to her to become one. She would become one surely, she would really prove herself. She smiled a bit and said: "Trust me, you won't loose me." she flicked her tail and looked back at the mire. She would come back at a better time. This place would never loose her interest.
Burke squinted his eyes at her. "That is what they all say,"he stated grimly and then raised his head. "Kendra likes you, so you better not break her heart," he pointed out. That was the overprotective dad coming out at Venus. Seeing that she had Cyn as a mate meant that she was pretty well settled by now. "If you like the mire so much you can help me mark the swamp borders. I don't want you to go on alone here ever again," he spoke. It might be annoying that Burke was forbidding her to go into the mire, but it only meant that he did care for her as a member of his pack. "There are tunnels where you can be alone too."
Venus knew Burke was trying to be protective, but it didn't come lightly that she couldn't be here, ever. She bit her tongue as he continued. It was nice to hear Kendra enjoyed her company, as Venus enjoyed Kendra's. It was nice to see a young mind have such a passion in something. That something was what Venus enjoyed also. Venus nodded. "I will help you mark the borders. Thank you for the opportunity, and I apologize again for coming here alone." Even if it was her favorite place to be.
Burke didn't want to be the bad guy of stopping her from going somewhere. She was free to go into the mire as long as she would take someone with her. He heard from MacBeth himself that he made a stumble and it was Venus who was able to help him. But what if Venus wasn't around? Then what? Macbeth might have died in his first week. "It is alright, next time take someone with you," he advised. "And marking the borders will at least be something that we can do in silence if you want your silence that is," he stated in return. He just didn't want her here alone, it was dangerous.
Venus smiled politely. "I won't come back, but I will take up the offer for patrol. It won't be silent unless you wish it to be, when I have someone around, I will talk." She said. She knew someone would come here with her someday, and she could enjoy it as she hoped. "Is there a less dangerous place I could sit alone in silence? Sometime it just need to clear my head without anyone around, even is that means picking for herbs, I just need somewhere like that." She asked. If anyone knew the land, it was Burke. He would know the places she could enjoy without her life in jeopardy.
Burke nodded to the female. "Oh you're one of those," he spoke, almost sounding teasingly. Yeah, look at Burke trying to crack a bit of a joke here. He could be civil and nice if he wanted to. He rather preferred silence. Except with his children then it was really suspicious if they were quiet. He should really hang out with them soon. Have a full day of just being a dad and not the grumpy pack leader.

"You never know in this place, maybe your weight, not that your heavy, will shift and it will create a new place of quicksand right under your feet. You can go down into the tunnel, find a chamber of your own and claim it if you like. Meldresi did it with her keep and not many wolves use the tunnels as they did before." Little did Burke know his daughter lived in that place. He had the feeling she liked them, or to be underground at least but he had no clue that she was getting pretty knowledgable with the tunnel and the paths that went to different places.
Venus smiled lightly at his joking. "Yeah I am." She laughed. The underground tunnels where her and Kendra found the glowing moss, would be a good place to sit. The soft glow was calming. She nodded in response. "I will go look around there again." She said. She thought for a moment, about what she said to Kendra. "I think Kendra really enjoys plants, so I was wondering, as a little gift for her, could I make her a small garden? She has grown in interest for replanting mosses and other plants. I just wanted to clear it with you," she said. Her voice was respectful. She just wanted a little treat for Kendra to have. "Of course, everything would be planted in spring when the snow melts and the ground is soft. I though it would be fun, and a show of responsibility. If she needed help, I would either tell her how to do it, or do it myself if the task was hard." Venus appreciated the trust Burke gave her to tech the young pup. She smiled lightly and she moved her body in a respectful position, showing he was dominant.
Burke was pleased to hear that Venus was going to look for something else. His mentoring part seemed to be over as the topic moved to his daughter. "As long as they aren't poisonous I think I would be okay with that. But I am not sure if anything grows in this dark forest. Meldresi never had a garden I knew off. It will have to be in a clearing or on the edge of the forest, though I never smelled Kendra on the edge," he pointed out to her. This was actually quite comforting for Burke that meant that Kendra wasn't going to leave Black Feather any time soon.

"Don't underestimate her though. She made red dye from a scratch herself. I was actually quite impressed. Did you explain that to her? I am not sure how she managed to fabricate it so well." What Burke didn't know was that Kendra had a different friend that would help her with those types of brewing.
Venus nodding. "Sorry for so abruptly changing the subject, I think it would be a good responsibility challenge like thing. I will help her choose the plants, and I will stop her from planting toxic plants. I think we will look around some parts of the territory soon to find a good spot, fairly close to the den. I was thinking some kinds of moss, and maybe a few herbs." she explained. She wanted to give the father a clear insight on what the pair would be doing. Kendra was a bright mind, that could be put to waste. "Kendra is a very smart girl. I think she really enjoys plants, and the way they work. She has a spark, at a very young age. She gets excited easily, and gets impatient and frustrated when I cannot answer her right away. What I am saying, is I'm not making her future, but I think she has a very real passion for plant life." She said with a polite smile. She wasn't saying she knew the girl better, but from what she can see, Kendra has a passion for plants. Everything she said, is a compliment to both Kendra and Burke.
Remember Venus can not comment on what Burke is thinking, her switching the topic was something Burke thought of. ;D I had a bit of the same feeling when Kendra thought about making her own garden and then Venus instantly suggesting it in her next post. It is okay for now but do remember it for other replies that Venus can not know or suggest those things out of 'nowhere'! :)

Burke looked at Venus with a hint of surprise. "Did I say you were changing the subject?," he commented back to her, his pale eyes placing over her with a curious glance. Burke was almost amused when Venus talked about helping Kendra choose, that would actually be something he would be impressed with if Venus was able to choose anything for the stubborn little girl. Burke found that his daughter had her own vision and that was what she was going to pursue. She would not do something just because it would please someone, well maybe for him she would, but not for anyone else. Nemesis had the same vision about his kids but by now that had probably changed.

"I am not saying you are. You have never met her mother, she is just like her. If Kendra didn't like plants she had not been listening to you. Let me tell you that," he pointed out. "The passion for plants is in her genes. Trust me. Her mother was crafty as hell with plants. I'm not saying you are doing a good job Venus, but it is a shame she cannot learn the craft from her mother," he sighed. He turned his face into a sad smile. He missed Meldresi terribly but it was good that Kendra had someone to at least learn from. He was bad with plants. Kendra could probably lecture him.
I apologize! I didn't read when Kendra thought about the garden! I must have skipped that section on accident. :-(

She caught his sad smile, which did make her sad. She hated to see someone she cared about in pain. She made a sympathetic smile, it was clear it wasn't fake. She didn't look at him as a lesser, but more of a caring pack mate. She couldn't relate to his pain, but she still could show her support. She wasn't going to tell him it was ok, those words she had had enough of those words. "I would rather her learn these things from her mother. I will teach her the best I can, nothing less. I wish I could have met her, she sounds like a great leader from what you have told me." She said and smiled.
It is okay! I just thought I saw a pattern!

Burke nodded slowly, not really wanting her pity or compassion for some reason. Burke guessed he was allowed to miss her. At least she didn't tell him things would be okay. "I know Venus, thank you," he spoke shortly. Meldresi had been a good alpha female, only the last few weeks or months were lacking because she was so ill. Burke disliked to think about it. He wondered if the pups were the reason after all. But then again, no one could cheat death, Burke was just happy to stay alive still. He knew how quickly it could be over, making a wrong step. "I should go," he then stated. "Hopefully you have something about my advice."
Venus lightly smiled and dipped her head. "I have, thank you." She said just before turning her body to the side to move away from the mire. "I will see you soon at border patrol hopefully." She said and smiled. The girl waited for the male to walk away, as she began her way to the cave system to find herself a new hiding spot, for her to let her mind fixate on nothing, after a long day of picking herbs, sorting them, and setting them out to dry.

Fade here? Thanks for the thread! Sorry about the pattern :-(
No sweat! If you didn't do it on purpose it is all good!

Burke nodded at the female. He would like to see her at border patrol around the swamps. Macbeth had been a good help too but seeing that Venus enjoyed being in the swamps he might take her next time, which would be around next week. The dark male left the girl with the advise he had given. She would probably take it to heart. Venus was a good wolf, maybe more submissive than the others, but that was in no way a bad thing. She carried her tasks out well, more than Mikasi did. He might suggest her to challenge Mikasi next time he would see her. Just to see how that would turn out.

- end!-
