Apollo roamed through the forest, edging on the border of a packs he'd been hoping to get in contact with another wolf with authority in the pack, wanting to join it. He howled to catch the attention of someone else, before wondering more and howling again. After his second howl he sat down, underneath a damp rock. Awaiting the arrival of another.
As of late, Reek typically spent most of his time on the borders. Tending to the scent markers and keeping intruders at bay were just a part of the day to day work-grind. It was a good thing, really. This near constant work did not allow his mind the breadth to wander and take him, hand in hand, down familiar avenues of grief. There, here could wrap himself in his own emotional cocoon and feel normal again.

A howl on the border, south of where he was stationed, immediately caught Reeks attention. He turned around and backtracked to meet it's source. Reek was in no hurry, and soon, a second howl graced his ear. He soon found the stranger takeing shelter underneath a rocky outcropping, partially obscured by the falling snow. "You're not a patient one are you?" Reek asked, taking note of the strangers second howl.
Apollo focused his attention on the new wolf, approaching him, giving a small chuckle at his remark. His voice was low and mild. "I was just assuring myself that I would be heard, I didn't mean to rush you," He instantly noticed the wolves scruff-like appearance, and a scar across his muzzle. Reminding him of his own scars and past experiences. Apollo could tell this wolf was one of honesty, whether it be blunt or not. He would speak his mind and make his decisions final, so he knew he would have to give his best in the process of being elected into the pack or not.

He lowered his body to be below the alpha's, but still looked buff and somewhat intimidating, even though he wished he didn't. A commonly thought name for Apollo was a  friendly giant, since his appearance coordinated with his personality very little, to not at all.
The stranger made himself small in Reek's presence, showing a level of respect that he hadn't seen on the borders in a long time.  Before the two could even exchange names, the stranger had earned brownie points in Reek's eyes from this initial gesture. Still, Reek's expression remained stoney and remarkably unexpressive of his current satisfaction. These first impressions, as he had learned, carried an immeasurable amount of weight in the long run. No matter how respectfully this unfamiliar wolf conducted himself, Reek was determined to show that he was no longer a man to be trifled with.

Taking a broad step forward, Reek practically exuded power.  His tail stood erect and his ears pinned foward as he trained his eyes on forehead, full-bore. "Whatever," spoke the alpha, gaze unbreaking from the stranger. "It's fine. I'm not so much of a patient man myself."  Reek hoped the stranger would understand the double meaning behind his words. While he appreciated instant-gratification, he had little patience for trouble, especially with Saena being so close to season and Spring just around the corner.

"So... What are you doing on my border?" he asked despite having the automatic assumption that this stranger was just like the other wolves who wound up on his border. He was looking for a home.
Apollo was still focusing on the gruff of this alpha, but didn't pay much mind to it. This wolf was confirming his earlier thoughts of honesty and to-the-point. When announcing that he too wasn't very patient, Apollo took that as a warning. He'd try his best not to take too much of his time in the process. "I was hoping to be accepted into your pack." He said, assuming the wolf already had an idea as to why he was there, but just jumping to that conclusion could have lead them to an awkward situation if he wasn't searching for a new home.
Of course, the stranger wanted a place among Reek's ranks. "And so does everyone else," quipped Reek. He was not in the business of giving out handouts, nor was he taking any charity cases. The maplewood had enough wolves to function on it's own; Reek needed no extra bodies. He would hold this prospect with strict scrutiny. If he could not prove his worth, he would be turned away to face the cold alone.

It was a wicked word and a wicked way, but Reek's own family came first.

"What's in it for me if I take you in?" he asked, but it was construed as more of a command for the stranger to spill his guts here and now. "Sell yourself. You have— hmm," Reek paused and sharply sucked in breath, "15 seconds. Go."
Apollo was taken off guard by the evaluation, but nevertheless prepared to speak about his benefits for the pack. He understood that Reek wasn't going to take anything unreliable. It took him a second to respond before he could take in what was happening. "I have been a lone wolf most of my life, providing that I'm well with survival. Me being alone I had- well have to hunt for myself, and I've managed that pretty well. I have experience in taking care of others since I had discovered two pups abandoned, and had to provide for them as well. I would devote myself to the pack, and do anything it asks without hesitation. I think I could come in handy with hunting, scouting, or other roles in the pack."
Tick tock went Reek's internal clock as he counted the seconds before the prospect began to speak. He was wasting valuable time. But, as soon as the stranger began his joining speech, Reek felt no quarrel with what he had to say. Of course, Reek had no interest in learning the prospect's past... he only cared about his future and what he brought to the table here. That was the beauty of the Maplewood, it was forged from the ashes of new beginnings.

He offered his loyalty, and in truth, that was all Reek wanted out of a potential joiner. It really wasn't that hard to secure a place within his ranks. "That's all I ask," he affirmed with a nod. "If you pull your weight, you will have a home here. What's your name son?"
Apollo took in the cold air, and let mist leave his nostrils, relieved with the alpha's response. "I'm Apollo, and you?" He questioned, relaxing his muscles, but wasn't sure this was all over yet, so stay prepared for anything the dark wolf threw back at him. All Apollo said was true, he didn't only join a pack for a home, but for opportunity to give to others. He pledged his loyalty and had no intentions of breaking it, and not just because he knew the wolf in front of him would kick him out in a heart beat.
I'll fade this out and get you all titled up! Now you can thread to your hearts content!

Apollo. It was a simple name; quick to roll off the tongue. Reek was particularly fond of simplicity, especially when most names were like tongue-twisters like that alpha from the north he had encountered earlier... Thuringwaffle or whatever. He would share his own simple name with the new recruit before leading him into the territory.

"Reek," he introduced in a short and clipped fashion. Allowing his dominant body language to relax, Reek's tail finally rested upon his hocks. No longer were his muscles coiled with anticipation. Beckoning for the recruit to follow, Reek led him into the territory and left him to his own devices.
