The early spring grass made a soft doormat as she loped up the vale. Sunny patches of wildflower were beginning to pop up out of the blue, adding a touch of colour to the once snow-dappled land. With all that in mind, she drew back her lips to reveal her canines in an exadurated wolfish smile, trusting her instincts that she was heading in the right direction, south. If all went well, she'd find that little grey bastard of a brother before any other lupine a got their tainted paws on him. He was hers to protect, hers only. And she'd to anything to ensure he stayed alive. If only he hadn't abandoned her!

A snarl escaped her maw before she could silence herself and she clamped her teeth down on the tender muscle in an attempt to ensure it remained silent. The pain was blinding, a thousand times worse than the bee sting she had received last summer as an inexperienced yearling but she continued her stride, refusing to show any signs of physical weakness as she approached the softly bubbling ribbon of water cutting through the terrain.

With a restrained yip of pain, she tore her teeth out from the sensitive surface of her tongue and plunged her muzzle beneath the surface to erase the streams of crimson that had begun to flow in steady trickles down her neck. The relief was immense. The mottled girl sighed and visibly relaxed, a strange black cloud beginning to swarm her vision. She swayed uneasily on her slim legs and collapsed in a heap of panting cream and gold fur, allowing her eyelids to drop and her breathing to slow to the speed of one who is resting.
