The following days have been hell for Hiraku. Going back to Northstar Vale, he had found himself an abandoned rabbit den, and was forced to take shelter in it when a group of locusts came overhead. He managed to hide in it and cover the entrances, trapped in the small area and nearly terrified of what was occurring above ground. Ever since a few days ago, he was constantly starving, though the feeling wasn't something he wasn't accustomed to. A mix of terror and boredom encompassed his days, and while he could go for days without food, water was a different issue. He already tried to fight his way to a nearby creek he remembered seeing, managing a decent gulp of water and two mouthfuls of locust. He had no wishes to repeat the experience anytime soon, and promised himself he would die of starvation if things didn't let up. Possibly lucky for him, it did.

He woke up today thinking it would be no different, but to his surprise, he heard nothing, or at least what he had experienced the days before. Making his way to the entrance, he dug himself out to see a sky again. Overjoyed with the seeing the outside world again, he set his sights on the surrounding area and had his jaw drop. There wasn't a speck of vegetation in sight, along with most of the wildlife. Initially weary, he ignored it for the time being and ran to the creek, glad to see it wasn't sucked up by the locusts. He shoved his face in it and started gulping down water, letting out a sigh of relief once he was sated.

Now with his stomach filled, he glanced at the surrounding area once again. All the foliage was gone, everything. He quickly felt uneasy; a lack of vegetation would mean some animals may leave, and those that made a settlement here would focus on other prey. Wolves were one of the first thing that came to mind, and also made him shiver at the thoughts of being torn apart. He wouldn't allow himself to go out like his brother, he wouldn't allow it.
