His energy sapped, the boy did not make a move as Tavi rounded the others up to gather after presenting contribution. Larkspur settled with him, and dolefully the boy glanced toward her, though did not move. His spirit could not be cheered in this moment, but only because of the hunger that gnawed at his thinning belly.
 
Words were passed as the others drifted back – his own ear perking at the familiar sound of his mother’s voice. He did not truly take in anything, though – instead, he resisted the urge to simply sleep, for it was all he truly desired in that moment.
 
Shifting his weight, Pippin willed himself to stay awake, dully studying the strangers that surrounded him.

They rested together, ate, played, all in spurts - most of the time Tavi was chasing after Tambourine, or trying to herd him away from the toys long enough for the other kids to play with them - and by the end of the gathering everyone seemed tired, but content. She was sluggish herself, gathering Tambourine (with Stark's help) and taking him back to the Crook where he could have a good nap. In the end she wound up passing out beside him, having expended all of her energy during the few fleeting hours that the pack was all together. It felt like things were looking up, finally. That the pack was unified. At the very least they were on their way to becoming a cohesive family -- but all that would be tested soon enough.
