Miyax traced a path away from the many scents of other wolves. She could feel the burn of their eyes for a few hours after, but gradually they slipped from her mind and were forgotten. This path she made followed the natural gaps in the trees made by startled deer. While she did not come upon any during her escape, there were plenty of signs that the area was burgeoning with life; the snow had not scared any of them away except the bear, which was a scent that Miyax felt was distinctly lacking. Her nose wiggled above the hillside of shale as she stood upon it, having broken away from the shadowed woodland, and she poised herself confidently upon the territory. Eventually she raised her head, feeling the wind pulse briskly at her scruff, and then raised her nose to the sky — she loosed a bright, clear howl as if to say, I am here, where are you? Although it was directed at nobody in particular. After some time with no response, the wolf headed elsewhere to try her luck.
