she did not despise her daughter; it was her duty to make sure that what happened to her did not happen to the girl. weakness in a woman did not get her far, amara could only regret. had she been stronger, self-confident, resilient, perhaps she would not have been broken so many times by people she would never meet again. perhaps, had she not had her head in the clouds, the wolves of rosings would have bowed to her too like they did for aaron. perhaps, had she been confident, kierkegaard would not have pushed her around in the way he did. perhaps, had she believed for a fraction of a second that she could stand willfully on her own two feet, she would not have sunk so low in a time when three young beings needed her most and the world around her seemed to decay at her touch. amara could not let such a thing happen to the girl, her daughter, the one she knew inhabited amara's best and long-forgotten qualities. if the girl grew to be anything like her mother, in body and in mind, the petite woman worried that the world would turn and twist, becoming as harsh as it was on the woman herself. prialux would be stronger; she had to be, or the pain endured and the trials overcome by the small woman herself meant nothing if she could not save her daughter from the same fate.

"prialux?" the woman called, peering into the den where she supposed the girl lay. "would.. would you like to hear a story?" she had not reached out like this before, having kept such maternal suggestions to herself where she knew they were best kept. kavos had shrugged her away from any idea that she could stitch together a bond between her and her children, however, the importance that she make her point clear to the small girl far exceeded any worry she had of failing.
