Although she had agreed to keep company with Wardruna, Sif was accustomed to a certain amount of freedom in her roaming. She didn't think this would be a problem as long as she returned to the male in good time. And if he missed her - well, she'd pick something up for him on the way back, so that he knew she'd been thinking of him.
For the time being, Sif was enjoying a nice afternoon by herself, pouncing after leaves as they fell and tossing acorns in the air just so she could try and catch them again. She was used to playing by herself, and had yet to realize that there were games that could be played with other wolves.
It was only very gradually that Sif became aware of her observer. She was too caught up in her game to immediately heed the telltale prickle along her spine. I just need to catch this once, and then I'll investigate, she thought to herself (albeit, in not quite so many words). But as soon as she did catch the acorn, there was a giant maple leaf drifting down from above, and Sif was dancing frantically underneath it, desperate to capture the bright, golden foilage.
To her credit, she did turn toward the stranger as soon as she had it between her teeth... after parading it for a moment or two, head tossed back in the sweet thrill of victory. And, despite having sensed for some time that she was not truly alone, Sif froze in her tracks as soon as she met eyes with the swarthy stranger.
Perhaps if she held very still and made no sound at all, the other wolf would get confused and go away.
Sif's ears twiched at the sound of the other's voice, her head soon following in a curious quirk. She knew all those words, of course, and realized that the woman spoke of her. To her? It was hard to tell.
"Dark girl," said Sif, mumbling around the leaf that was still hanging from her mouth. "Dark eyes." Perhaps describing each other was something that wolves in this land did when first meeting?
Feeling as though she'd totally nailed it, Sif padded a bit closer to the other female, ears cupped forward in interest. Although she'd had a few bad experiences with others in this land, she'd gained confidence from her agreement to travel with Wardruna. Besides - everyone had been really nice to her since then.
"Skinny," Sif added, nose wrinkling in displeasure.
