It was more populated here, the scent of other lone wolves like herself was stronger. Uruuk was reluctant to talk to any strangers, it just seemed safer if she travelled alone in search of Grezig.

The lake was deserted when she peered at it though the foliage of undergrowth where she crouched out of sight. The she-wolf padded into the open slowly, carefully in search of bears or other threats.

Finding none, Uruuk crept to the water's edge and drank her fill of water. As she raised her head, licking the last droplets from her lips, her attention was caught by the sight of several ducks and geese and other waterfowl nesting along the banks of the lake.

Amidst the chorus of honking and quacking, it was easy for the slim agouti girl to slip away into the grass and soon be forgotten by the birds.

Uruuk lay in wait until some ducks had slipped away into the water, darting forward and gobbling down several eggs before the mother noticed. She'd eaten about eight before the mother goose flapped angrily onto the scene, aiming sharp pecks at the wolf with her bill.

Uruuk loped away, the goose following for a time, swallowing the last bit of egg. When the mother gave up chase, she slowed into a walk and continued on her path.
