Keeping some things vague

She headed west after leaving Drageda, slowing as she began to notice the familiar signs of a pack nearby. She scented the borders long before she reached them, but remained cautious as she drew near. The last time she had been on the coast, this pack was not here, so she was surprised to stumble upon it now. Her surprise was only brief, though--soon replaced with her normal stony expression, eager to find out if the pack knew anything about her missing family and then move on. She had more coast to travel and then an even longer journey home, but mostly she wanted to find even the smallest hint that any of her kin had survived the storm. Taki tried to remain hopeful that she would find the information she so desperately sought, but her more pragmatic side kept intruding on her thoughts and reminding her to be realistic about the fact that she may not find out anything at all.

Pushing aside her conflicting ruminations, the northerner stopped just outside the borders, snowy paws stark against the dull stone of the cliffs. Not wanting waste any time, she lifted her muzzle and howled for the leaders.
the sylph winced as a howl punctuated the forest, drawing her attention to the dark bosk that came between them. dutifully, she rose - her step minced and body held tightly as she walked.

it took some time for her to make her way to the caller, for the snarling vines and twisted roots of the sequoia forest made travel difficult, and caiaphas was far from hale. the lance on her neck had grown and flesh freshly bubbled over, yet the incision was raised and weeping -- despite her best efforts to stave infection, it was settling comfortably in.

it was a pale she-wolf that stood politely at the borders, and caiaphas' gaze raked her with a start -- the vixen looked familiar, which made the siren queen instantly distrustful. "yes?"

CATERWAULED??

Not sure how that got there, but I'm leavin' it.

A good amount of time passed before a slow-moving female emerged from the trees, greeting her with a single word. She was injured--that much was obvious, and an inspection of her scent told the northerner that the wound on her neck was working on an infection. She thought it was interesting that this clearly vulnerable wolf came to greet her alone. Was she the leader here? What if Taki had more sinister reasons for being here? She could easily take this woman out in her condition. Maybe there were others nearby? She cast a quick glance along the treeline before settling her fiery gaze back on the dark-faced woman. It was lucky for her that Taki needed peace here today in order to obtain the information she wanted more than anything or she might be trying her luck at a take over--assuming this was the leader she had called for.

But, she needed to establish some kind of fleeting trust here if she wanted answers, so she greeted the other wolf with a stiff nod before replying, I have only come to find information on my missing family. She steadied herself internally for the onslaught of emotion that would come with her next words. A storm separated me from them. My sisters Tahani and Shivali look a lot like I do. My nephews Sos and Aningan are also white, and my nieces Tunerk and Currituck are brown, she explained to the injured woman, managing to keep her voice even and free of emotion. Then, she fell silent once more, done speaking of her troubles for now and anxiously awaiting an answer.

beep boop a test
the female had called some time ago, and if caiaphas felt guilty for her late arrival, it did not show. what did show however, was the flicker of annoyed defensiveness that crossed the siren's marred features -- to be so brazenly measured by a she-wolf she did not know.

prickly and feeling perhaps vulnerable, the sylph waited patiently for an explanation. all traces of coldness seemed to melt from the hard lines of her eyes as the she-wolf mentioned a storm -- caiaphas too had everything stolen from her by a particularly sour tempest, and flicked her tail in passive understanding.

"hmm. there are two here, that may be who you are looking for. i think they are here -- one is all white, speaks and looks like you. i do not understand anything he says. the other is a girl, with blue eyes. does that match those you are looking for?"
Whatever she had been feeling before was gone, to be replaced with relief. She closed her eyes and released a small sigh, opening them back to focus on the woman in front of her once more. The descriptions were somewhat vague, so she tried no to get her hopes up too much before finding out more information. The girl sounds like my niece Tunerk, she started. The boy you described sounds like it could be either of my nephews, Sos or Aningan, the northerner added, Do you recall their names at all? She needed more information before she could be sure these were her family members. They hadn't come here at the sound of her call, which worried her; she thought they might recognize it. She hoped they weren't being kept here against their will, because she would march her ass right over these borders to get them back, even it was the last thing she ever did in this world. Her gaze tightened a little as she studied the other wolf a little suspiciously while she waited for her answers. Surely, she wouldn't have offered the information at all had she been trying to keep the two from her, right?
the siren did not miss the note of suspicion that lingered in takiyok's gaze; hardened as caiaphas was, the loss of children had shaped her to be even crueler -- jealously, she wondered if this wolf would take the children she had given safe harbor from her.

the situation was not so different from what illidan had underwent -- somehow, caiaphas had been tunerk's and aningan's grezig -- and had come along at just the right moment. she almost reflexively flexed her shoulders, begrudgingly accepting takiyok at least was owed the explanation of where her kin was sleeping.

"their names, you have already said. tunerk and aningan are both here." her expression became steely, and she did not step back to allow takiyok egress. "safe."

okay, that last thing was a bit conditional.
Tunerk and Aningan. They were both here. She would have relaxed some under the weight of the relief, but the look on the female's face made Taki's eyes tighten a little. I'm just supposed to take your word for it? she asked with a raised brow, not threatened in the least. Even if the wolf that stood before her was not injured, she wouldn't feel threatened; she was empowered by the bonds of family. I do not wish to take them against their will, she explained. Although, she briefly considered it just to spite this woman for making things more difficult than they needed to be. but, I'd like to see that they are safe and happy. Her tone left no question that she wouldn't budge on this. She wouldn't just leave here satisfied with the word of a stranger. Did the hooded woman take her for some kind of gullible idiot? She was neither of those things, and since Sia had run back home, it was solely her responsibility to watch over her family, and it was not a responsibility she took lightly.
all trace of sympathy left caiaphas' features as the northerner spoke -- not only did she question the validity of caiaphas' words, but she spoke in such a manner that seemed to imply caiaphas, of all creatures, must oblige.

frankly, it left the siren queen cold.

a grim sneer replaced her neutral expression, and her hellish yellow eyes raked over takiyok's form in contempt. "hmm. you are in no position to be making demands." she sneered, rolling her shoulders with a cold indifference. "sorry, we're closed. come back later."

the term acquiring more flies with honey than vinegar was not without its merits -- and unless takiyok supplicated herself then and there before the irascible harpy, she would soon find herself alone in the forest with no wolf to converse or boss around.
Murderous, protective rage churned in her stomach at those snarky words. Taki glared at the Rusalka woman, ears flattening and a snarl rolling from her lips. You are the one who is barely able to walk from your injuries, she replied first, revulsion twisting her face a little as she spoke. She would not be kept from what was hers--her family. Grief and rage clouded her judgement completely in this moment; the fact that she was standing on her own against potentially an entire pack of wolves did not register with her. She had one simple fucking request, and this fucking psycho was making things difficult for what? Because she could? She wanted to tear her face off and see if she could sneer then.

I think you underestimate just how far I'm willing to go to make sure my family is safe, she said with quiet anger, her voice surprisingly calm despite the storm of rage building in her chest and pushing her to remove the barrier between her and her kin.
caiaphas was already walking away when the heat of the female's outraged words hit her. she paused and turned her head carefully, glancing over the female with a pitying sort of condescension that had no warmth to it.

she had been understanding until the woman had started exacting demands on her -- caiaphas was not a wolf that bent to anyone's commands... least of all an outsider. she was not by nature a generous wolf, and her patience was easily tested by insolence.

"better bring back an army then." she replied coldly, her serious gaze raking across takiyok one last time before she made for the monolith forest.
At first she was overcome with cold, unthinking rage; it urged her to cross over the borders and chase the other woman down, but she somehow found the restraint to keep herself still. She looked at the spot where the hooded wolf had disappeared, gaze furious as resolve settled in her expression. She had no idea what Taki was capable of. If it was an army she wanted, then it was an army she'd get. Somehow, Taki would find a way. She had made a very stubborn enemy, and Taki knew in that moment that nothing would stop her from watching the life drain from that woman's eyes. Nothing.
