was literally writing us a thread at the same time LMAO maybe we could set this before yours? after our last one <3

first we ask.
erzulie's jaws split into a wide yawn; she stirred from where she lay curled alongside the pirate, and for a long moment merely watched her lover for a long moment. the scarring upon her face would heal, and while @Rosalyn might be forever changed, her beauty was undiminished in erzulie's eyes.
carefully she inched forward, letting her lips trail the curve of one torn ear. "femme." it was the first time she had ever said such, but in her heart she knew it to be true.
YES hahaha omg.  feel free to adjust timestamps if you want, or let me know <3 I don't really pay much attention to threadlog order
great minds XD

Rosalyn stirred when she felt Erzulie's touch brush her torn ear, light enough that it felt almost like a whisper.  She didn't open her eyes right away, but smiled, the spoken word taking a minute to register with the shaking off of sleep.

Erzulie had spoken many times words that Rosalyn did not know, and she'd never asked before what they meant.  Her nickname for her, kònèy mwen, being one of them.  She turned, opening her eyes, and gave Erzulie a small kiss good morning.  What does it mean? she asked, playfully, deciding this time she wanted to know.
rosalyn opened her eyes — erzulie received with great happiness the kiss bestowed. she had begun to give up hope of this happening again, but here was her lover. worse for wear, but returned to her. making a mental note to thank the loa for rosalyn's safe return, erzulie gave a fluted sound in her throat.
"it means wife," she murmured, suddenly shy. they had never been so formal, but then again, the harlot did not need a ceremony to tell her what had already been in her innermost heart.
Wife.  It was a word that Rosalyn had never expected to hear, but she found that it left her without words for a moment.  When they'd first begun this, Erzulie had spoken of avoiding love.  They'd openly exchanged the words many times since, and there was no doubt the feelings that existed between them.  But still, Rosalyn had never asked Erzulie to be exclusively hers, nor to be first in her heart.  She never would, because she knew that love and ownership were two very different things.

To be given it was an honor though, and she enjoyed the feel of a title she'd once upon a time loathed.  It's beautiful.  She thought back, to the time before, but she couldn't find it in her mother's tongue.  She hadn't used it in so long, just with Daikini for a short time in these last few years.  Alma querida, she said softly, after a moment.  It was the closest she could find.  Cherished soul.  My wife.  She gave an affectionate purl and just enjoyed their closeness for a moment, reveling that only a few short weeks ago everything had seemed so dark.

I thought I had love once, a long time ago.  She was one of the pirates' women, and she taught me many things.  But even before it turned, it was nothing like this. She said, thinking on Sarai and realizing she could not even clearly remember the woman's features.  In the end, time and this here had made it so that the memories no longer even ached.
alma querida, and there it was, in a language she had not known to be partial to rosalyn. a tremble coursed the length of her; she nudged beneath the corsair's chin and held herself there for a long moment. to belong to someone was one thing; to go to one of her own accord, was quite another. rosalyn had never asked it of her, never demanded it.
and that was why erzulie happily came, giving of her heart and of her love. it was revealed that her wife had felt something not so strong before, and the chai-tea woman considered whether or not she herself had ever loved marie.
marie, marie, of the glimmering smile and the secret talents, who had sculpted erzulie in ways no one else could. love, yes, something twisted and hanging between the affection one might have for their mother, and what one might have for a bedmate.
"not'ing like this," she repeated, kissing rosalyn's collarbone. and it was just as well. they would walk in the newness of it together.
It felt good, having a way to distinguish the woman from the lovers she'd known in her past.  The happiness she felt was almost indescribable, but with it came a good measure of fear, because if the attachment she felt to Erzulie was like nothing she'd ever felt before then she knew losing her would destroy her.  Speaking her mother's tongue had brought back memories of a simpler time, but it had also brought back the reason she'd revoked it in the first place.  Fortunately, she had few doubts about her trust in their relationship.  She knew that if they were to part ways, it wouldn't be by choice on either of their parts.

She wasn't overly surprised when Erzulie agreed that she'd never felt this before, though she still marveled at it.  Rosalyn didn't doubt the harlot had left more than a few broken hearts in her wake, a result of her trade and the beauty of her soul.  That she'd chosen to stay with the pirate wasn't a thing Rosalyn ever planned to take for granted.  She gave a soft, contented sound as the kiss touched on the base of her throat.

This doesn't mean I need to be the only one, she said, with a small smile.  She wouldn't seek to make Erzulie stop her trade unless she wished to, as some might define the term.  She'd said this before, and she guessed that the other knew it well. A part of her, though, wanted to know the other's thoughts.  So long as we can still wake up like this.  She returned the other's touch, to demonstrate.  If not every night, then as often as possible.
"i became a harlot out of necessity. it is good to know what i can do if i need it again, but for now i do not." had marie not taken erzulie beneath her pale wing, the girl would not have survived, or perhaps suffered a worst fate for those wandering young ones. the trade had come young, and for a time it had been good.
but that was only her body, rented for a length of time. rosalyn had her heart, never before given. a smile curved her lips; she leant into the pirate's touch.
"always." it was perfect, to lie down beside rosalyn, to wake the same. erzulie did not wish it to end, to be parted. and yet the talk of love made her self-conscious as always. turning her mismatched eyes upon her lover, the woman gave a light frown. "how are you feeling dese days?"
The answer she got had been a part of what Rosalyn intended, but not the entirety. As she thought on it, she realized clarifying further what she'd said didn't really matter.  The pirate had never prescribed to the thought that a soul only had one match out there; rather that each had many, and some were only more generous than others.  Some of the figures in her past had found three or four in the same crew - she'd taken half a lifetime to find one.

And Erzulie seemed to be as choosy.  She'd meant she needn't be the only one to occupy her heart, if a time came that another caught her up, so long as she wasn't left behind.  But it didn't need to be said; in the unlikely event that it happened, they could cross that bridge as they reached it.

A new subject appeared instead; how she felt.  Physically?  Better. she answered.  She still couldn't put much weight on her leg, but the rest of her was healing faster.  Just anxious to be moving more easily. Where she would go once she could wasn't something she'd thought much about... she'd kept her focus on meeting the wolves here and integrating herself best she could.  She wouldn't call it a rousing success so far but it could be going much worse.

Caiaphas has found herself a good crew, here, she said, gently changing the subject again.  I've met a few, but are there any in particular I should know?  Erzulie been here so long without her, it would be good to meet the ones who had made her love this place so fiercely.
she sensed her wife had more to ask, but opted not to seek rosalyn's innermost thoughts, for the present. their rapport was such that any questions would arise again, and be summarily answered. for now, erzulie was content to touch her mate again, to lie alongside her in complete enrapture.
"you be walkin' again in no time," she assured with the practiced glance of a healer. erzulie knew she could not promise that rosalyn would be unscathed in this regard, that the muscles which had been torn by drageda teeth would mend completely well again — but the corsair would walk. of that she was sure.
"illidan," came her soft purl. the boy was young to be beta, but solemn in a way shared by few of his peers. "an' raleska. an' caiaphas," erzulie added with a pointed glance toward her lover. "i know you have history between you. get to know her in anot'er way. a more friendly way."
The three that Erzulie named were three that Rosalyn had already met, and that made it easier.  I think motherhood changed her, Rosalyn admitted, smiling a bit as she thought on Illidan and Raleska.  She liked both of them, and while most children she could take or leave, youth who she was directly responsible for protecting she tended to grow affectionate towards faster than adults.  They tended to be more open in return, anyway.  I don't mind them.  Her smile betrayed that that was an understatement, as did a small joking lilt in her tone.

History's one way to put it.  She'd never told Erzulie of her and Caiaphas' shared past, had she?  I lived her with her before, in a pack called Saltwinter.  'Saltveenter', as Vlad put it.  He was a friend, and the one who convinced me to stay, but I wasn't really content following Caiaphas.  I didn't know her, and I'd just come down from running a crew of my own.  She gave a quiet snort of laughter, remembering their interactions.  I tested her one too many times and she ordered Vlad, who was her second, to kill me.  Instead . we tried to take her place.  We lost, and Vlad disappeared not long after.  That was probably the only thing she regretted out of all of it.

They'd had run-ins since, but that was a majority of the history they shared.  She didn't imagine it would go differently if she tried the same shit again, but she didn't sense that same spitefulness in her old foe anymore.  Age and family had softened them both, maybe.  I'm not looking to make the same mistake again.  So I think I can manage that.  That wasn't the only mistake she wasn't willing to make twice.  In Rosalyn's mind, she'd already decided she wouldn't lead again.  It was the opposite of a promise she'd made a while back, one to never reside in a crew she did not captain.  Any ship she sailed seemed doomed to fail, so perhaps it was best if she let others take the helm.
in silence she listened, in quietude, erzulie discovered a side of both caiaphas and rosalyn she had not known before. her love was a wanderer, through and through, and the sharp seawitch had darker spirits coursing through her than previously suspected. but they had both changed, had they not?
while erzulie owed caiaphas a great debt, it was the pirate she loved, and if the hag's teeth were set against rosalyn again, the harlot would rise to defend. secure in this, she did not thus take great offense at the shared history between the two she-wolves when it came to this saltwinter and vlad.
"time is a funny t'ing," she commented, lapsing then into a comfortable silence while she preened the edge of rosalyn's torn ear. the mark of drageda's teeth would never leave her beloved, and each day would serve as a reminder that the hate she carried coiled inside her was worthwhile and righteous.
As she told the story, she did wonder briefly if it might change Erzulie's opinion of Caiaphas, but surprisingly found herself hoping not.  She didn't think it would, since she struck her as the type to form her own opinions, but it wasn't terrible staying put.  Not even staying put here.

It is.  She agreed, resting her head back and relaxing into her touch.   For a bit she forgot Drageda's looming threat, her own reservations, and that the world outside the two of them even existed, letting the silence fall lovingly around them.

seemed a good fade <3 thanku for the gorgeous thread
