After roaming Teekon and pondering over which path yearned for most, Noelani decided to push past the fear of joining another pack and stopped at the borders of the next one she encountered. This one would have to do, whichever it may be. She had high hopes, though, for she had willed her all her energy into positivity in order to manifest the perfect "next step" in her life and had full confidence that whatever this pack may be, it was the right one for her. If not, it was merely a learning experience for her to grow from. She failed to consider that perhaps the pack might not even wish to have her join, sometimes confidence can be blinding.

The lean she-wolf pointed her nose up to the sun and smiled with assurance before singing out the honey-rich call of a tropical wolf's howl. As she lowered her muzzle back down she began to practice answering questions that might be thrown at her.

What trades do you wish to obtain? Why I'm a firm believer in the mind's health so a therapist, I also hope to be a skilled hunter

Why are you here?  Every wolf from my home has the option to leave once they're older to experience life beyond our sanctuary, a lot of it is based around religious enlightenment - a path had lead me here to you.

Without her realizing the girl's tail shifted back and forth with anticipation and excitement.
Lily heeded the call with as much haste as she had to muster--which, honestly, wasn't much. It was more a waddle than a walk that brought her toward the newcomer, and though she offered a smile, it was a weary one. The pups had began to move a half-moon or so ago and had not ceased since; they churned like a brewing storm within her, sharp little paws every which way.

Boy, this pregnancy thing sure was great, huh?

'Lo, the Satori said, feeling a little out of breath. She drew to a stop and looked the woman over, not unkindly, but perhaps with more sharpness than would normally be found in her gaze. Welcome to Elysium. We're a sanctuary--are you seeking shelter here? What can we do for you?
The sound of a wolf could be heard thumping their way over, to which Noelani waited patiently. Upon the soot colored girl’s arrival she was welcomed by the newcomer, ”Aloha!” she greeted with a grin so wide her eyes closed. When her smile lessened was she able to catch sight of the clearly pregnant she-wolf.

She was quick and to the point, not what she had expected but definitely not something she disliked. The wolf glanced up at the sky as she pondered the assumed leader’s inquiries.”I guess you could say that. I am in need of a home.”

She bowed her head slightly as a sign of respect, a custom so innate that she hadn’t considered it might not be practiced at this sanctuary. ”I’m Noelani.”
Alo-wha? She was greeted with a word she'd never heard before, and Lily blinked a couple of times before awkwardly nodding back, smiling through the confusion. She assumed it was some sort of greeting, by the tone, and the she-wolf seemed friendly enough. She could always ask what it meant later.

Oh, well, we're just the place, Lily responded, wagging her tail. Hallo, Noelani. I'm Lily. You can come on in; our borders are open to all who will keep the peace. She stepped aside in illustration, waiting for the cream-colored woman to meet her on the other side.

All we ask is that you are kind and civil and that you provide for Elysium in return, she mentioned. Whatever skills you have to offer will do. Erm. . .what do you like to do? What do you think you're good at? A babysitter would be lovely, Lily thought wryly, sensing that yet another Fetus Wrestlemania was about to kick off in her womb.
It was so easy and simple to become apart of Elysium, their intentions seemed so benevolent it was almost confusing. The she-wolf then introduced herself, along with a few inquiries. Ah! These were the questions she were prepared for. Noelani lifted her head a little bit higher with confidence. "I'm rather set on two skills- caregiver and hunter." She stepped across the border just as the woman had told her to do and felt a sudden wave of relief, she had a home again.

Her eyes wandered to the protruding belly of her new pack mate.  "If you need any help, I'm definitely willing. Pups are a very cherished thing where I'm from, the entire pack helps raise them." She wasn't sure if that was normal for every pack, but if it were to be normal anywhere else this seemed the place.  "I need practice anywhere I can get it." She looked down on the significantly shorter woman and sent her a smile.
Oh, lovely. Just the answer she was looking for. Lily let her shoulders relax, and her face burst into a grin, her tail thrashing behind her. Excellent, she chirped. We would have taken you either way, but that sweetens the deal, she added, mirth gleaming in her eyes. She canted her head deeper into the willows. Come along. I'll take you to the dens and you can pick one out.

She began to walk, expecting the woman to follow after her. It wouldn't take much to catch up, anyway. Once they were in step, Lily began to speak again. So, Noelani--where are you from, originally? What brought you out traveling? She was vaguely aware that an inquiry of such nature could dredge up bad memories. . .but then, as caretaker of Elysium, she rather had a right to know, yes?

Besides, if it truly made Noelani uncomfortable, she could dance around the question, and Lily would be fine with it. Just so long as she wasn't hostile or deliberately untruthful.
Lily seemed much more animated once she established her openness to help, which she mirrored. It didn't take much for the long-legged woman to follow after the pregnant and slow-driven shadow, but of course, it couldn't have been a bother to the sandy coated girl.

Fortunately, for both of them, she had lovely memories associated with home. Just thinking about the sea-beaten shores of Maui made her chest kindle with warmth.  "I'm quite a ways from my old home, it was a tropical place with never-ceasing warmth, truly one of the most captivating places." The girl went silent for a moment, appreciating the scenery of her homeland. "I left because I was given the chance to experience life beyond our own sanctuary. I guess you could call it a right-of-passage, you just live off of what life gives you and accept wherever it may take you. Thankfully, it led me here."
Thankfully, Lily was born and bred for these winters, shaggy coat and all, so the cold didn't bother her so much. But in the wake of the last few frigid days, the picture Noelani painted of her homeland was idyllic; she couldn't help a wistful sigh in response. But the woman gave a similar story to her own--that no matter how perfect it might be back home, eventually, you had to venture outside, see the rest of the world.

I did the same thing, she said warmly in response. Left home and didn't look back, and fate happened to lead me here. Isn't it fascinating? Turn left instead of right, or go south instead of north, and we could have ended up in completely different places.

Would she have found a mate like Khali, in this hypothetical home? Would she be facing the prospect of motherhood?

Her ears canted forward. You said you come from a sanctuary, too? she asked. What was that like? I've never heard of a place quite like ours before.
She smiled kindly in response, elated to know that someone from a different upbringing could be so relatable. Her grin progressed into a glow as the woman continued to speak, nodding at her interest in such a philosophy. She, too, felt that it was fascinating that they both ended up in the same place, "Possibly, we were meant to meet." It was comforting to think that destiny swayed her towards a wolf with a similar story, similar ideas, and even a similar mien. They both seemed warm and polite- if this was what fate was leading to her, she had no complaints.

Noelani considered for a moment the differences between her old home and new. "Well, one distinction would be how openly you accepted me. My home was open-minded but we had more interrogation to healthy wolf's like myself, we were so large we would need to regulate who did what and how they could help with the most efficiency for everyone. Of course, we would take just about everyone in but they might be forced to have specific jobs if we were lacking. Unless, of course, they were ill or pregnant- no questions asked they were accepted."
She nodded along with the explanation, looking more than intrigued. It seemed very organized. Would they be able to pull something like that off, here? Lily scarcely had the energy to attend to her normal activities; she couldn't imagine adding anything else to her plate. Maybe Delight could take it up. . .

Sounds like that would keep everything running smoothly, Lily remarked sincerely. Were you a hunter or a caregiver back home--or did you take up both roles? Lots of wolves juggled more than one duty. Lily supposed she did so herself, sometimes.

It seemed as if there was a lot to learn from Noelani.
"From a very young age I was interested in hunting, just about everyone in my family took up the trade." Her mind wandered back to her and her brothers fishing, making childish competitions between who could catch the biggest.

"However, when my cousin, Ahe, was pregnant was when I first really became interested in caregiving. Fortunately for Ahe my aunt was a skilled midwife. She taught me a lot of what I know. Practice was easy to find too, we were a sprite pack and many could get hurt by crabs or the jagged cliffs."

The cream-coated woman sheepishly smiled before looking at her new friend apologetically. "Forgive me, I'm talking a lot. Tell me about yourself, your home, trades- what about your soon-to-be pups?"
Good to know you have some healing skills, Lily remarked. We had a medic here, but I haven't seen her in some time. Your skills are definitely needed. And then Noelani opened up the door for the blackbird to talk about herself, which, of course, she seized with alacrity.

She wagged her tail. I'm not put off by chatterboxes, she teased, beaming. Being one myself, of course. Erm, I lived with my family for most of my life, 'til I came here last winter because I just needed a fresh start. I fell in with this lot and have been around since.

Well, not exactly this lot. She fell silent for a beat, thinking of all those departed, whether through choice or by death.

Khali's the father. He's a very nice man, Lily murmured. You'll see him around sooner or later. He keeps busy. This is my first litter. Usually I try to keep up with everyone, how they're doing, and pay visits to other packs as well. But as you can probably tell, I'm a little weighed down by other things, giggled the Satori.

The two continued their conversation until Lily found her a den, and then the two parted ways.
