She had come far to prove a point. Perhaps too far.

At times all Eilonwy could think of was of mom, and how lonely she must be feeling so long without her daughter. But there was another side of her that often took her mind in another direction, and she told herself that she wasn't needed. Chusi had been in this world long before her, and would probably still be there after Eilonwy's inevitable accidental (or self-inflicted (?)) death. Her substantial lack of worry for her brother's disappearance, and if you care enough, the indifference towards their father's abandonment were proof that Chusi was resilient enough to survive without Eilonwy. But that point she was trying to prove? She couldn't do it. Eilonwy was simply physically incapable of living too long, or too far away from her mother.

So she was making her way back to her.

At some point, the girl came across a wide stream, too cold to swim across and way too wide to jump it over; but she thought she had it all figured out when she caught sight of a few broken ice blocks floating down-stream, probably the last of winter. She thought she could jump on them one by one and get across, and she tried it, but she wasn't skilled enough and the slippery surface was too much for her to handle. In the end, Eilonwy had to swim half the creek over to the other side with a twisted paw and a cut on her hind leg. Breathless, shuddering and in too much pain to keep walking, Eilonwy dropped her weight when she reached the shore with a sad and dry thud and curled around herself without a single clue of what to do next. If only Chusi was there to help her, maybe she wouldn's have had to go in such a pitiful, stupid way.
Sorry for the wait!

She had grown restless on the mountain and had set out to search for herbs much sooner than she probably should. Most things were still thawing, and she was pretty sure she would return empty-handed, but the need to stay busy and useful drove her out the the lake anyway.

She walked the water's still icy banks, searching for anything that might be of use. Not surprisingly, she didn't really find much. The healer stopped to inspect a few small rocks, turning them over with her front paw to look for moss but found nothing. When she started to move again, a curled form on the ground in the distance caught her attention. Oh no, she whispered when she realized it was a soaking wet wolf. She sprinted over, too worried to remember to be cautious. Are you okay? she asked gently as she came to a stop next to the girl. You must be freezing. She wanted to wrap herself around the poor thing and offer her own warmth, but she waited to judge the other wolf's temperament first; she may not be too receptive to being touched by a stranger.
Don't worry!

Eilonwy shuddered like never before, rattling parts of her body she didn't really know she could move, and still felt nothing. She was numb. The cut on her leg had gone fairly ignored up to that point, and whatever bruise he's gotten on her way there was simply unimportant, she just needed to get warm.

She was lucky. An angel had been sent to her rescue, an angel in the form of a small wolf, and Eilonwy lifted her head as much as she could to acknowledge and welcome her to save her. She couldn't really make up words, her mouth and brain too cold to process thought beyond basic instincts of survival, for the shot of adrenaline that had gotten her out of the water had already lost effect.
The empath could hardly bare to watch her shivering and immediately wrapped herself around the girl, seeming to feel like it was exactly what she wanted. You're okay, she murmured softly, attempting to soothe her. Speedy could smell the blood from a wound, but she couldn't yet tell where the wound was. Keeping her warm was more important right now anyway. You're hurt, the healer said after a few seconds. You don't have to show me yet, but are you able to tell me how bad it is? she asked next. She wasn't sure the girl could talk through her shivering, but she asked anyway, hoping to get a better understanding of the situation. She had no herbs with her, but she would cross that bridge when she got to it; for now, she would just focus on keeping the poor wolf from freezing to death.
She felt Speedy's warmth grow into her as she got tucked in her embrace, and she thanked the stars for giving her another day. She was ready to let herself go asleep, already too numb to care for anything other than finally resting. She was scared, she was cold and she wanted to be back home, but home was too far away.

But the murmurs and her saviors voice wouldn't let her sleep. That was a good thing. Except Eilonwy had a hard time putting words together. M-m-m-m-m-my l-l-leg-s she stuttered, taking a break to catch her breath. I c-c-c-can-t f-f-feel the-em she said, and she was worried about that bit. She knew the wound would not be on her torso or her face, for she could feel most of that alright. but her legs? she even tried to move them but couldn't feel enough to tell whether it was working at all.

you can pick where the location of the wound
It was painful to see her suffering so much, and she, too, was worried that the girl couldn't feel her legs. She thought maybe it was just due to the cold, though. Still, she glanced down at the shaking wolf's legs just to make sure nothing crazy seemed to be wrong. Right away, she found the source of the scent of blood that had been steadily wafting from the girl; a large gash spread across the outside of her right thigh, starting at the knee and almost reaching her hip. I'm sorry, sweetie, this might hurt a little, but you have a pretty large wound on your back leg, and I need to check to make sure it's not too deep, the healer said softly. Without wasting much time, she lowered her head to the wound, giving it a few licks and pressing her muzzle gently but firmly against the laceration as she followed it up the the leg. Blood oozed some as she inspected the gash, but it, luckily, didn't seem too deep. Cleaning it and applying something to deter infection would ensure that the wound healed well. The wound isn't too deep, she explained. It just needs to be cleaned, and you need some herbs to prevent infection. She curled around the freezing girl once more, placing most of her body on the poor thing's numb legs. I think your limbs are numb from the cold, so I'll stay here and warm them up until you can feel them again, she added, keeping her voice soft and soothing. She began to lick the girls face and head to try and remove some of the excess water from her coat as well as provide some comfort.
What a blessed child Eilonwy was. To find a healer, out of all kinds of wolves, at the very moment in which she needed it most was perhaps the luckiest thing that had ever happened to her.

The healer said there was a large wound on her back leg, and although Eilonwy couldn't feel it, she could confirm from the strong scent of blood that she'd picked up just a few moments ago now that her nose wasn't freezing and dripping. She tried to take a look, but her body ached so bad that she decided against it and hoped that her savior knew what she was doing. The way she spoke about it was quite relieving. Okay, she would shyly respond at everything the woman said to her, and whatever it took to get her out of danger she would allow. As soon as the woman curled around her limbs to lend her some warmth Eilonwy rested her head against the other and closed her eyes, desperate for a moment of rest and tranquility. But she didn't get a second of peace before her mind started freaking out again with thoughts. I wouldn't know which herbs to use, she admitted with a low, still quite shivering voice.
She felt the girl relax against her, and Speedy draped her head over the other wolf, embracing her. She hoped she could fall asleep, at least for a little while until she warmed up, but just as quickly, she heard the girl's panicked question. My herbs are back in my den on my pack's territory, she answered first, wishing they were closer to the mountain. What if I tell you what you need and what to do with it? the healer suggested. There were only a few items that she needed, and they weren't too hard to use. Plus, it would be valuable knowledge for her to have in the future. She kept the the injured wolf close as she waited to see what she thought of her plan.
