The trail went cold along the edge of the weir and as his hunger grew his patience strained, though he did not relent — and was rewarded in the dawnlight as he crept across the stonework of nimbus. A series of exposed ridges peppered by red-barked trees with tinder dry branches and tines led him away from the more dense forest where he'd started, and the further he went the more exposed he became. Soon Tulimaq was slowed by the sheer incline of the rock face, and it took some concentration and time to find his way. When he did — emerging victorious and alone where the hillside met the midday light — he was panting heavily but feeling much more grounded and calm.

After he regained his composure Tulimaq began the climb down the other side of the ridge, but stopped. He could see a series of angular shapes moving further out. There were more trees to the north and along the edge of the wood he thought he could see the shapes roaming in-and-out of cover, and took a deep breath as the air pulsed against his face and scruff. More deer. Perhaps the stranded young deer had managed to find its way back home again. Pity, as it had tempted the wolf across the hinterlands after it.

The beast eagerly descended from his vantage point and began to busy himself with a new course. They would not hear him coming until it was too late. Hopefully by the time he came upon their graze-lines he would still have enough energy to hunt one of them.
She too was hungry. She had not been tracking the deer but instead her favorite prey, rabbit. The fat white creature had been tempting her to catch it but every time she grew close it ran. She knew she needed it to live but gosh.....it really wanted to live!

So did she though so she got crafty. Instead of a straight line she circled the rabbit, always keeping track of it's scent. She was excited to see that she came up behind it and froze, body tense and tail rigid. She waited till it went for some freshly ripened berries and then sprang, instinct guiding her jaws to close around it's throat. In seconds it's life ended and she dropped it staring in awe. For a few long moments she was silent and then she cried out with joy. "I am survivor!" her joyous voice echoed, her laughter causing a ruckus loud enough to send the deer herd scattering. She only knew this because they all ran past her and she got the shit scared out of her as she crouched over the rabbit. When she could open her eyes again she looked around, standing up and spotting the male as he appeared. Her ears went flat as she recognised the sign of a hunter in action and she frowned, feeling bad for ruining his meal.
