He slept trough the carnage, as sweetly and as soundly as always. Little Sundance, oblivious to the destruction of his family at the paws of a great beast within Elysium's sanctuary, remained curled quietly at the centre of their underground hollow.

When at last he roused, the first thing he noticed was the cold. It wasn't the temperature that caused this discomfort, however, as an unfamiliar weight settled in the pit of Sundance's belly like stone. He felt the chill of his fear enough to breathe a soft whine of concern and confusion as he glanced around the dim light within his mothers' den.

He was alone. Why had he been left behind?

Ariel was gone. Atwood and Reif were also missing. Olive and Seabreeze were out of sight.

Had they gone out on some wonderful trip, and accidentally (or deliberately!) forgotten him? Panic set in and the volume of his cries increased as he pulled himself onto his paws to peek outside, searching to see if they were waiting for him just beyond the den's entrance. That fleeting home was quick to dwindle, however, as Sundance was greeted by nothing more than the gentle sway of willow branches above.

He knew better than to head off in search of them on his own, so the silver babe sank to his belly to wait. His little chin propped atop his pallid paws, big blue eyes solemnly scanned his surroundings for any sign of his family's return.
