Eriol had rested the night before - slept cozy as could be under the thick, protective snarls of a low hanging bush. His small size did him favors sometimes. A single night's rest was worth two to most for Eriol – he simply bled energy. That also made him consistently hungry. The big game was extremely scarce here, but it was useless to Eriol, anyway. Though it took him until that evening, he'd run down a squirrel, eaten it and resumed his travels.

It wouldn't sustain him forever but for now, it worked out.

Eventually he'd found himself in the fragrant wood, ducking under and pulling himself through prickly plants that tugged away bits of his fur. It was uncomfortable but he didn't notice it too much. Keenly interested in the forest around him, he spotted berries in bushes that he did not recognize and winding trees that snaked upward. It was these that got his attention. Apt with energy and without much thought, he bolted toward one with a burst of enormous speed. He hit the trunk without slowing and followed his momentum up until he caught himself on a thick branch. He rested all four feet upon it comfortably and looked out on the rest of the wood, maybe eight feet from the ground, inwardly giddy at his success and not yet realizing that he'd have to come down.
