the coast was ravaged.

she pressed on, patient and determined as ever, in the opposite direction of donnelaith.

if it had been lost to the sea, her grief would swallow this world. she would manifest the banshee queen, her shrieks overtaking the howls of wind and her tears strengthening the torrential rains. emaleth would love to believe that if something happened to the sentinels, she would feel it in her body — in the same way she would stop feeling her tail if it were to be separated from the rest of her. but she knew this was fanciful. she would not know until she returned.

and so long as she did not, donnelaith would exist.

her body yearned for a rest, and so she paused at the gently sloped base of mounded earth. for the most part, this blocked the wind — the gale moved from hilltop to hilltop, darting above the small valleys. but occasionally, a gust would race between the mounds and set a chill down her spine. she imagined gnashing teeth and screams. banshees rushing past.

emaleth closed her eyes, pressing against the cold earth, steeling herself before she began to move along the low pathways, searching for signs of a hidden den.

Rusalka was no more, and so he began the search for Raleska. He couldn’t know where she was, but he was a seasoned scout and liked to think that he would be able to locate her in time. As much time as it took. Kaertok would not stop until he had found her. He continued along the coast, searching for any signs of her or the wolves he might have recognized from his time spent with them. Idly, he wondered if any of them would remember him.

He spotted a dark figure up ahead, and a more hopeful wolf might have thought it was her, but he knew better than to believe in dumb luck. Sungiwok let out a soft but clearly audible woof in the other wolf’s direction once he was within range.

Before he could reach her, something scampered across his path. Prey. An instinctual being, Kaertok was unwilling to pass up the chance at a good meal, so he abandoned his former objective of inquiring about Raleska and gave chase to the small animal.
