After the forest, he went southeast, eventually crossing out of the taiga - not that there was any indication in the terrain. The dark clouds remained poised over the maple forest. Blue sky dominated everywhere else, with pale vapor-like tendrils of white struggling to solidify elsewhere. He spent some hours toiling across the higher ground before it descended in to the valley below. From that spot he could see all kinds of things on the horizon. Mostly he spied trees, most which were buzzing with active little birds or dancing to the beat of the wind's breath. When he passed beneath a wizened oak something chattered at him and dashed for safety, but he hadn't noticed what it was - a squirrel, maybe. Whatever.

It was warm with the sunlight on his back. Everything felt so peaceful. Asa could not help but think of home, of his parents, of his older brother roaming in search of some "summer fun" (his term, regardless of season). What would Humility have been up to? Probably watching the flowers, he thought. When they got bigger she'd want to collect them and present them, but something always held her back from that. Maybe she knew that they were for looking at rather than reaping; too bad that hadn't applied to her as well.

Asa was inevitably drawn in to the cool blue shadows of another forest. He could smell the pollen hidden among the ferns, and as he picked his way carefully among them some caught in his coat and tugged. There was a small brook creeping around a stand of little trees which then went on to pool on the other side - maybe once it had been some kind of spring, but something had blocked it in the wintertime or (more likely) frozen the origin point. Now it was so thin it was more like a puddle, but he stopped anyway, drank, and moved on.

Nothing here but space, again. He was beginning to think he'd missed his window of opportunity with his sister's killer - but he'd never stop hunting either, which made him wonder... Was he destined for this empty life? It was like the beast who had taken his sister had ruined him too, in a way. He drew in a long deep breath at this thought and paused mid-stride just out of reach of some sunlight beaming through the trees.
Arbiter was on the fence about whether or not she should head out and try to search for Terance herself, but the longer it was, the more she knew it would probably be pretty useless. They'd be miles and miles away by now, and since they hadn't returned... It didn't bode well. It opened the door for other things, not that she was particularly positive about them. Everything had been pretty grim. Certainly a turn of fortune had to be ahead, but that didn't mean that she was totally counting on it happening. She would suffer through. Or whatever was necessary.

And that was what had drawn her down into the forest nearby again -- that vague chance something might happen. If not, it was only a short walk back to the Bypass. Maybe she could convince her remaining son to head out and find some more wolves -- she trusted Spook far more than Brou -- or something. She exhaled sharply, trying to clear her mind, then caught a bit of movement not too far beyond.

She moved forward towards it. Another wolf, unfamiliar. So. Who are you? Yeah, she was great at small talk.
