he wasn't sure if he really liked how open this place was. maybe it was instinct or somethin? he felt exposed...to what threat he couldn't say. was there really threats to him? he guessed wolves, but most of them were scared of him, for whatever reason. he barely even knew what a goat was, let alone how to fight.

or how to hunt, his stomach reminded him. he really needed to eat something like...good. he could hear little things scurrying about, running away from him. they'd just be a snack, tho. munchers. he flicked his tail in annoyance.
Everything still hurt inside her mind but the healer she'd been lucky to find had healed her physical ailments and after some time like everyone else Lainie parted ways only considering returning. She had Polaris to see again...why'd she abandoned their promise? Within her own mind she'd become tormented by the knowledge she was useless. Everything that gave her the ability to survive worked except her back legs because she'd been an idiot child...and now she was starving again.

The rabbit's amidst the plains caught her attention from the forests nearby and she'd let the wind bring her that way despite having no idea how she would catch one. When she grew closer she smelled the cat...but she'd never smelled one so she continued onward even drifting naively into the field eyeing the rather large cat with wide eyes. Her wounds were still healing but she moved with more ease tail giving a friendly wag behind her "Hey. Trying to get the rabbits?" she tried to speak hoping it spoke common just as Dart had. Maybe she could be friends with this one too though her eyes dropped to his paws staring at them and then his maw praying he'd speak and reveal blunt teeth and that those paws were simply big because they were fluffy.

sorry for the wait! No need to backdate!
he turned his head to the murmur of noise behind him, seeing a wolf sidling towards him. huh? oh. yo. this one didn't seem as frightened of him as others did. which was nice. he didn't have to calm anyone down. that was annoying af. mm, i wanna. but, uhhh....iunno how. he had heard of rabbits before, and seen the things scurrying around, but they seemed too fast for him, too nimble. even if he was a badass hunter it seemed far-fetched, but he was a chunky (not anymore, though) gamer.
The way he spoke was weird but at least it was common. Her ears perked above her head as he explained he had no idea how to hunt the rabbits. It wasn't something she put too much thought into seeing as he was a big animal and they were nimble small animals that would hardly provide him with very much of a satisfying meal. "They get scared and fear spreads like wildfire. Weird idea but can you bark...or growl really loud?" she asked giving an example of her best which while it was a good, rip roaring snarl it wasn't the loudest nor the fiercest. "You can do it into the holes. One by one. We work together until some of them leave and take flight. I...might be able to catch one and if you can get another then I'll give you half of mine" she was smaller even than most she wolves, she'd be full off of half a rabbit and the big weird animal would be more satisfied for his work.
haha rawr exdee, he said rawr rather than actually making the noise, grinning at his own joke (a joke he didn't really get but knew was funny for some reason). naw i can, uhh, i can do it. the noise thing. yeah. make it scary. he nodded, a bit more serious now. 'sgo spook some wabbits, man. she had said something...something about holes? yell into holes? what if the rabbits ran outside towards him and bit him on the tongue or something crazy like that? that'd suck. guess that was the price you had to pay for food.
She stared at him puzzled by the joke but it sounded funny so she cracked a smile her tail wagging at her haunches as she found herself entranced by the weird large cat. "Alrighty then. Pick a hole. Any hole and give it your absolute best. They will most likely pop out of a hole somewhere where you're not so you gotta be fast to chase them" before she'd had her nerves damaged she'd loved to run after rabbits endlessly. She'd even caught one and presented it to Papa who recieved it with such pride. The memory made her misty eyed and so she began the hunt, picking a hole and focusing all her energy in to snarling as loudly and savagely as she could. Though it was a sorry attempt for a wolf the sound still caused scurrying and rustling inside the holes. Quickly moving toward another she repeated and looked toward the feline motioning for him to do the same before returning to destroying her vocal chords.

sorry for the wait!
he watched as she stuck her head into a hole and let out a snarl. he could hear the rustle of something under the ground. benry let out a chuckle, smirking. lit, he said to himself, before loping over to another hole. he sniffed the entrance — fresh. he let out a noise that was half yowl and half growl, and was rewarded with the sound of small paws on dirt running off. he smiled to himself at the result. this was gonna be fun.
So apparently we're gonna send four of em running and take em out! Succesfully hunt *eyes emoji*

The sound set off the rabbits beneath them Lainie could just barely catch the sounds before the large predator scared the crap out of her. The sound he made nearly sent her running and she gave him a wide eyed look before grinning "hell yeah! Again!" and just as she encouraged him the first frightened rabbit popped free to the right of her and took off. Gasping she set after it her hind legs stumbling causing her to lose balance but with a snarl of frustration she threw herself forward snapping it's hind leg up as she rolled into the dirt and holding tight even as she took claws to the chest and muzzle. Breaking it's leg she swung her head around wildly trying to daze it before slamming it to the ground and finishing it off panting raggedly and letting her hind end hit the ground as she took a moment to rest and stare down at the first catch she'd made with her own jaws in quite some time. Dragging it away from the rabbit burrows so the stench of death wouldn't ruin their hunt she looked to Benry a more determined, predatory light in her eyes as she gave him a more tired but even brighter grin "Again" and chose another hole, snarling into it before repeating it one by one around the holes sending the rabbits into a frenzy.
benry's in cat at 3 am mode watch out

he grinned wildly — an expression that would have been downright terrifying for a wolf if he was more aware of himself. but at the moment he was heated, filled with an exhilaration that he hadn't experienced before: the thrill of the hunt. he couldn't see himself, but his normally small pupils were blown out, eclipsing his irises in black. he had nearly launched himself at the rabbit, only stopping himself when the wolf stumbled after it, breaking its bones and slamming against the ground. woah...

he obliged without pause. he wanted to go after a rabbit this time. he let out another yowl, wilder and louder this time, then immediately running — he wasn't exactly sure what direction he was running in; he was just running. the adrenaline was getting to him and his lack of training and experience was showing in full force.
The sound he made send a wild chill down her spine filling her with the urge to run. Watching him bolt she was mesmerized for the first few moments of the hunt he was after the brown streak of fur that bolted and he looked magnificent leaping into action, stronger and more agile than a wolf could ever hope to be. Thinking he had it down pat she tore her attention away and tried again snarling and snapping into the holes until a spotted bundle of white and brown shot free......this time she gave pause and let it go, for it was no bigger than maybe her muzzle and Lainie could not bring herself to take such a new life. Returning her gaze toward Benry she saw him barreling off and the rabbit out of sight and cocked her head laughing softly "HEY YOU! YOU LOST IT!" she hollered unwilling to leave the burrows untended but not wanting to lose such a good hunting companion. If he learned to hunt....she shook her head slowly remembering the way her body had reacted in instinct...if she taught him to kill he may enjoy it too much and turn against wolves. She'd learned even wolves had the tendency to shed one another's blood when fights were uncalled for....she'd learned that the hard way. While he made his way back she set to riling the rabbits back up again her tail wagging like crazy.

3/5 rabbits gone. 1 caught. 2 left to chase
he's running, running, running he loves the feeling of wind on his face but there's nothing in front of him, wait where? he stops himself, hearing a murmured voice on the periphery. i...wha? he looks ridiculous — his eyes open wide, fur sticking up, paws akimbo and claws out. he looks around. where'd? he calms a bit, relaxing his paws and standing up straight.  huh. he trots over to a nearby hole. should i go again? rematch?
