It was an overcast day. Not particularly sunny, but not rainy, either. It did little to cut down the end-of-summer heat, but Sonder didn't mind that too much. The boy climbed the mountainside regardless, eager to see the view from the top of the rise.

It was not often that Sonder did things like this - just for the hell of it. Before he'd left, everything had been so... precise. Meaningful. Like everything he did was important in the way he was viewed or perceived by the others. And he'd kept his facade up well... until she decided she didn't want him anymore.

His reaction had been more emotional than he'd like to admit. Rejection was not something he'd been intimately familiar with until that moment. And Sonder hadn't known what to do with himself afterward, so... he'd just left.

The golden boy had been on his own for about a month at this point. A month since his heart had been broken, since he'd told his parents he needed to leave Round Valley and be by himself.

Had it been healing? Not exactly. But Sonder felt slightly more himself than he did under his parents' watchful eyes.

The top of the overlook was in his sights now, and Sonder picked up the pace, tongue lolling and legs aching from the effort. He took a few quicker steps and barked, sending some of the ravens perched along the edge flying off into the sky.

And from there, rose-gold eyes would appreciate the view below.
