When posting to claim a trade or specialty (with a character in a pack) would I only post in the pack forum to do such (if a pack has one) or PM one of that pack's managers? Or would I only post in the matinence thread in the helpdesk? I need this information for the future and i'm not entirely sure how to go about it.

I believe you post your threads in your pack's forum, where they usually will have a thread for Trade Requests. PMs will check to see whether your request meets the criteria. Then they will submit for the trade to be awarded.
