Fennec hadn't really been here since it happened, but tonight she'd made a stop, standing on the mound of earth that was her previous den.  That stupid rock had ruined so many things - but so had she, choosing a bum spot like this.  For a second she just stayed, feeling the earth beneath her paws and trying to remember how everything had mapped out.  She'd kept her stores.... here, for now.  And the pouch...

By the time she'd realized she'd fucked up, it was past the point of apologizing being an option.  @Bronco already taken his other gift back, and when she noticed it was gone, she felt the rebuff with a yawning emptiness.  Maybe if she sucked it up and said sorry she could fix this, but at this point she wasn't sure she wanted to.

It was easier when no one cared outside of what she could give them.  Trades, bargains, no feelings, no fucking complication.  One day she'd live alone and the only people who bothered her would be too scared or too impressed to think twice about being her friend.  She'd always have Fig, and her mom and dad, and those were connections that were easy and un-messy and that she could take for granted without feeling guilty all the fucking time about it.

She stepped carefully, skimming her paws over the uneven ground and climbing cautiously, slowly, to nearer where the entrance was.  This was where it had been left.  She started to dig down.  The earth was harder, packed by a few rains and weeks of time.  It took her a while to get going, and it wasn't likely she'd find it right away.  But she'd dig however long she needed to to at least retrieve that.  The rest of what she lost she'd just have to see about.  Maybe it wasn't worth the effort.

Maybe it was better off buried.

Until then, she could at least hold onto what he'd made her first.
