Flash decided to go hunting. It was early in the morning and most of his pack mates were asleep. Hunting was going to be hard for him after Autumn and he had to make the most out of it. With a small yawn and shook his fur and padded towards the woods. He walked around the woods, sniffing the morning air and occasionally stopping to lap at the morning dew hanging on leaves. After perhaps half an hour of walking he finally caught scent of a migrating elk herd. They must be moving early, he thought.

Following their scent, he padded towards the elk herd going through the yellow-red forest. A hare shot out in front of him and he raced towards it. You can't waste good prey, especially if they're right in front of you, he thought as he slammed his paw onto it's neck and it fell limp. He went back to the elk scent line and buried the hare near by. Then he continued to follow the scent line. After walking through the confusing forest. He bursted into a small clearing with grass that was still green. He spotted the elk herd and smiled. Time to hunt my first hunt in a pack, he thought.

The faint morning light shone through the gaps in the canopies, the ashen outrider yawned and opened his eyes. Gently unfurling himself from his crimson healer, he touched his nose briefly on her cheek in farewell before making his way through the forest. The Praetor wanted to mark the Bypass's borders but the scent of the Probatio wolf made him turn away from his course and follow his subordinate's scent trail. He wanted to see how the sun-touched male was doing.

It wasn't long before he found him and the elk herd that the probatio had probably been tracking, he supposed that he could help, after all one wolf would never be able to track, separate and kill an elk from a herd. His tail cutting through the air as he made his way silently towards his subordinate. He wasn't called Shadow for nothing.

Salve" he murmured to Flash, relishing the use of his native tongue again. He wondered if the golden furred wolf would remember that he was now the Alpha and that being the wolf of the lowest rank, he had to submit, even in the midst of a hunt.

Flash looked over to see his alpha, Shadow standing next to him. He said something that Flash assumed as a greeting and looked at him. For a second he was tempted to ask why was he here until he remembered that he was in a pack now. He dipped his head and lower his tail in respect. I refuse to roll over and whine. It would make noise and scare away the elk he thought and his fixed his alpha with a smile.

”Hi, thanks for coming." He didn't want his Alpha to take this the wrong way like he asked for his assistance. He just wanted to thank him that he appeared at the right moment. ” I was just trying to figure out how to separate that elk ", he gestured at a young elk that was grazing near the herd , ” from the herd and attack it. " He was about to explain his plan when he realised he was almost about to tell his alpha what to do. He sighed in relief he hadn't started and said ”Uh, you can make the plan, we'll go with your signal."

Well at least the probatio was learning, he supposed the sun-touched male had an excuse not to whine and roll over onto his back this time, but next time he expected him to do the right kind of subordination required for his rank, probatio. ”Uh, you can make the plan, we'll go with your signal." He nearly smiled at that but restrained himself, he supposed that Flash was going to say the plan before realising he was probably telling the Alpha what to do. Next time, when he got out of his probatio rank, the silver male would ask him to lead a hunt to test his leadership skills.

"That one over there is weak and old, see its limp?" he whispered to his subordinate. "I'll sneak over there and chase her straight over to that grove over there," he turned his muzzle towards the beech grove. "Hide behind the trees, mask your scent and only when its going straight towards you and is close enough do you attack."

He began sneaking through the herd, his paws silent as he trudged through the ground. He flicked his tail, motioning to Flash to tell him that it was time to move out.

Flash took a deep breath. This was one of the moments when he could prove himself to Shadow he was worthy. He watched as the silver male stalked gracefully towards the elk herd and flicked his tail. Please don't let me fail, he thought as he silent padded to the grove of beech trees Shadow had pointed out.

A nice beech tree with roots covered with yellow leaves made a nice hiding place for Flash. The yellow leaves hid Flash's pelt and he smile. I love Autumn, he thought as he hid in the leaves. Then he remembered his purpose of being here and looked up to see his alpha's progress.

The sterling outrider made sure not to disturb any of the healthy elks, he didn't want to get kicked in the face, that wouldn't look good at all. Finally, making sure he was downwind from the weak, limping elder that stood at the edge of the elk herd. Stupid for one so old, didn't it know that it was the target of wolves? He crouched down and stalked it until it raised its head and sniffed, brown eyes widening but it was already to late.

The silver Praetor leaped forward, jaws clamping down on one of its hind legs and felt it snap but quickly dodged its other's hoof as it ran forward and swerved away from where he told Flash to wait. Quickening his pace, he leaped as far as he could and snapped at its left flank and immediately, it went towards the groove of trees that Flash was-hopefully-in. Its pace was obviously slowing down and the bloodied leg was dragging uselessly over the verdant grass.

Flash watched as Shadow chased the elk towards the groove. Once it swerved away from the course but Shadow chased it back on track. The elk was heading towards his tree and when it started to pass. He leaped on top of it and sank it's fang onto it's rump.

The elk buckled under him and fell down. He leaped out of the way before it hit the ground and surveyed it's shape. A bloodied leg and fang and claw marks on it's rump showed it not in good shape. The only choice now, was to see if they were to end it's misery fast or wait for it to die. He turned to his alpha for an answer.

The silver roman moved silently forward to bump his shoulder briefly over the other male's one as he walked to the elk's side. It had a good life, managing to avoid wolves as it grew but now it was time for it to go to whatever Elysium elks went to. Quickly, he sank his sharp fangs into its windpipe and the light slowly drifted out of its intelligent brown gaze.

He stepped back and surveyed their prey, it was rather large. "Good job, Probatio Flash." he said to his subordinate, eyeing him with his calculating gaze. This was not enough to get him out of his 'testing' rank but he was one pawstep closer. And he had proven the silver outrider right about him easily getting out of the testing rank.

Flash's tail drooped. Still in probatio... Flash sadly sighed as he slowly surveyed the elk, seeing how much meat there was. Pretty plump, it will keep the pack full for a while. He was wondering how they were going to lug this huge morsel of meat back to where the others were.

Flash felt a streak of pride ran through his gloomy mood. He had hunting together for the very first time! He wasn't use to doing so, but he'll get the hang of it soon. He looked at the elk and pride ran through him. He turned it around and hoisted it's shoulder onto its back. It was so heavy that Flash thought he was going to suffocate.

<style type="text/css"> r1 {color:#5e6d7c; font-size: 10px;} .r1box {background-color: #ccffffff; width: 500px; margin: auto; background-image: url('http://i.imgur.com/y77SqPt.jpg'); background-repeat: no-repeat; outline: 10px solid #477583;} .r1text {margin: auto; width: 370px; color:#2e5c8a; text-indent: 15px; font-family: rokkit; line-height: 15px; font-size: 12px; text-align: justify; padding-left: 15px; padding-right: 15px; padding-bottom: 5px; padding-top: 525px; margin-bottom: 30px;}</style>

His keen silver eyes noticed the way Flash's tail drooped when he said the word 'probatio'. He couldn't possibly have thought that one successful hunt would be able to get him out of that rank, no, it would take so much more than that. He looked at the elk, it would be able to feed the whole pack today and keep them full for a while. Although he knew that they would have to go hunting again soon. Hopefully other than Flash, they're were other aspiring Gamekeepers around.

He stared, a cold smirk appearing on his lips as a flash of amusement went through his platinum gaze. Flash was trying to hoist the elk on his back. Seriously, how stupid was that youth? He strode over to him, fastened his jaws around the shoulder that Flash was currently lugging and let it drop to the ground.

He rolled his eyes at Flash, the icy smirk still on his lips as he said "You drag one leg and I'll grab the other." He fastened his jaws around one of the elk's hooves and began dragging.

"Give me a break... I have never hunted something this big before... " Flash complained under his breath, just not loud enough for Shadow to hear. But he turned and grabbed one of it's legs with his jaw. Strength coursed through him and he started to lug the elk back to the others.

Flash found himself enjoying the feeling of hunting with another wolf. How it had been almost... almost like hunting with his brothers and sisters. Grief ran through him. Were they okay? Flash shook himself and snapped back into reality and continued to drag the elk. He remembered his hare and would go back for it. But not until he saw the faces of his new pack mates.
