In Imaq's homeland, there were many superstitions surrounding pregnancy and childbirth -- some of which Imaq held belief in herself. But one thing that was always done was to congratulate the mothers when they found out they were pregnant, usually subtly by leaving anonymous gifts near the woman's chosen sleeping place. It was not something that was done here in Teekon, or so Imaq assumed given how different things were here in comparison to the north. Regardless, it was a tradition that the merle intended to keep alive -- one that filled her heart with a fluttery joy at the thought of how happy her recipients might be to find a surprise gift.

It was one of those days when the she-dog needed a break from her usual roles of provider, Hunter, Caregiver -- when she could just be Imaq. She'd decided to spend it putting together a small compilation of trinkets for both Tzila and Lane, starting with some fine pelts she'd just finished curing: a ruby fox for the fire-singed Tzila and for Lane, a soft deerhide she'd taken from a young deer.

Tupilak set off across the Glacier with the furs cast over her spine, the fluffy pelts bouncing with her jaunty steps as the shaman searched for other goodies to add to the bundles she envisioned making for each mother.
