As days passed on, he did what he could do for Fennec, though there were some days where he thought he might be striking out a bit more than other days. He tried to tell himself that it was just the hormones, though he knew he wasn't exactly doing things perfectly...So he just did what he could. It was hard, bottling up his own excitement so that he didn't ruffle Fennec's feathers with it but...It got harder day by day. So he came up with what he thought was a solution- and started tracking @Towhee down.

From what he knew, Fennec had already told her. Bronco had never really worried too much about getting any repercussions from their Sovereign which perhaps was a bit presumptuous on his behalf. But even in knowing the news, she hadn't sent the hounds to chase him out. She also had three pups to mind so perhaps she was just busy...But he still suspected that she'd be happy about it.

He wanted to see her anyway, and the kids, so he made his way toward her hobbit hole where he figured the little family would be, in hopes of talking to someone who might share in his enthusiasm.
Sometimes she fell out of the habit of using ptero, though the daily lessons with Caracal and the twins kept it top of mind lately. In fact, she refused to speak out loud this morning, relying on body language and signs to interact with the kids. She needed them to get the hang of it because lipreading wasn't really an option for her with their baby speak. Towhee supposed it was good for exposure, though it did test her patience pretty terribly. She eventually lost her patience and summoned another responsible adult to take over while she headed out on patrol.

Towhee hadn't gone but a dozen steps when she glanced upward and saw Bronco coming toward the Hobbit Hole. She hadn't seen him since Fennec had broken the news, though the flustered mother didn't even think about that. Assuming he was on his way to see her three little shitheads, Towhee said distractedly to him, -I've been teaching them signs, if you wanna use them around them. It'd be really helpful, actually.-
He smiled when he saw Towhee striding toward him, and his tail waved in an almost sheepish way. He expected her to bring up the big news immediately- but instead, she greeted him with the suggestion that he use ptero when speaking with her kids. It was a bit surprising- as he'd thought maybe she'd make a bigger deal about him and Fennec having kids together. Fennec had told her, right? Was she maybe just side-stepping the topic because she didn't want to talk about it? Was this a sign that she was upset with him?

He tried not to be too clotheslined by the fact she hadn't jumped to congratulate him. After all- she was busy with her three kids and looked like she needed some time off. So maybe she was just relieved to see him knowing he would step in to babysit without being asked twice.

-"Oh! Sure!"- He said with an eager nod. He'd do backflips for the kids if it meant Towhee'd at least approve of him fathering her grandchildren. -"Were you, uh, going somewhere or did you wanna maybe...Hang out for a bit?"- It was a hopeful invitation, of course, for her to stick around and talk with him...But he wasn't about to derail her plans, not when he didn't know where she stood on the matter of his involvement in Fennec's pregnancy.
He looked a little caught off guard by her request, though he agreed readily. Towhee had only slowed and not entirely stopped but now she did, letting out a long breath. Right, there was more to the world than her frustrations over teaching toddlers ptero.

Before she could think of what to say, Bronco asked if they could spend some time together. Understanding exactly why he might want that, she nodded. -I'm going to patrol. Come with me.- She flexed her toes and resumed walking, needing the momentum and space to continue working out some of her aggravation.

Briskly border-bound, the Sovereign said nothing else, though her orange eyes flicked to Bronco to make sure he was following and to let him know he had her attention.
He'd heard her call out for backup not long before arriving, so it didn't surpise him that she wanted to head out. But it was with something he read as a sort of obligation that she invited him along with her, after his thinly veiled bid for attention. He felt a bit sheepish; maybe he was infringing on her alone time. It was so hard to read the women in his life; hard to know if they wanted him around, or f they wanted to push him away. And when he felt them pushing him away, sometimes it felt like it was a test to see if he'd go, or remain. So confusing; he could only hope he was doing things right.

He caught the glint of her side-eye and he smiled sheepishly. He knew that that was a hint that she'd watch for communications- but it was a bit of a disappointment that she wasn't willing to just sit down, face him, and let him scream at her how excited he was. He wanted a conversation, but...He also didn't want to traipse over her exhaustion with his exhuberance. He probably should have tried to see if maybe she wanted to talk- maybe if she had frustrations she wanted to air, or maybe she just wanted to hear someone ask her how her day was. While Bronco considered himself to be relatively good at helping others feel heard...He was by no means perfect.

Maybe it was best to give her a conversation she'd actually asked for.

-"So I was thinking, about how you asked us all to think about...Applying to be Regent,"- He began, doing what he could to sign while walking, which often caused him to skip a bit in his steps in order to make use of both front paws. But this was not his first time doing so, and he managed to get the phrase out without tripping up. He thought that expressing his thoughts on the matter might catch Towhee's interest- and he paused, waiting for her reaction, before he would continue.
She hadn't though much about the Regency since her conversation with Fennec. But now Bronco reminded Towhee of it and she stopped again, this time standing at the foot of the caldera with a good view of the neighboring prairie to the east. Part of the reason she hadn't given it much more thought lately was because she considered the position filled, even if there was technically one remaining slot.

Towhee wondered if he'd brought it up because he was interested. There was only way to find out. Summoning patience that was in thin supply, she questioned, -Yeah?- and trained her eyes on him, indicating he should go on and share what was on his mind.
A soft breeze ruffled his fur as Towhee invited him to continue. His heart thumped a bit loudly in his chest for a moment.

-"Well, I was thinking. I'd like to step up, or at least offer to, but I think maybe...I'm going to dedicate myself to childcare. With you an' Fennec both being leaders, and both being moms, I figure I might be more helpful to the pack by being your support, rather'n being another leader."- Fennec was a strong woman, and would make a fine leader. If he could make her life easier by relieving some of her non-leader responsibilities, he figured it'd be easier for her and Towhee both to handle pack matters if they got tough. -"...And I just...Wanna make sure that I'm gonna be a good Dad.-" He wanted to be there for every moment, every success and failure, every milestone and event, so that his own children wouldn't have to know what it was like to grow up without a father.
It might make sense for Bronco to hold the rank alongside Fennec, though they weren't even mates (as far as she knew), nor did Towhee consider that relevant criteria. Otherwise, Reyes would've been Sovereign alongside her. No, her Regents would assume the position by their own independent merits entirely.

And he arguably had several of those, though before the Sovereign could get any more ahead of herself, there came a "but..." Her somewhat fraying attention snapped back to his lips, hearing him out in her particular way. Towhee didn't think that he couldn't dedicate himself to both endeavors, though she saw absolutely no reason to argue with him. This whole thing was about her pack mates choosing for themselves.

-I think that's great, Bronco, and I know you'll make a great dad,- Towhee replied. -Fen needs all the support she can get,- she added, wondering if her daughter would agree with that statement. But she knew she was right.

-"Although,"- she continued in the next breath, abruptly finding her voice in a way Bronco might very well find jarring, -"I guess I should be kicking your ass or something for knocking her up. In case you're wondering why I'm not, I just... I honestly don't have the bandwidth for anything but looking forward to my grandchildren. And I really do believe what I said, about you being a dad. You're gonna be terrific."-
