Mistakes had been made once more and as her frail, skeleton for a body laid against driftwood, she counted them all.

Abandonment after abandonment.

Abandonment of @Maegi — still held in her heart as Nona.

Abandonment of @Raimo — still thought of as her shadow.

Abandonment of Blackfeather — the only place that had ever felt home.

Abandonment of Yuèlóng — the place that was meant to be a new home.

There were, of course, other mistakes. Yet these were the ones that hung over her, heavy like a pregnant belly, like a full moon in the sky.

Not once had she been so emotionally enraptured and consumed by desire as she had been prior to the appearance of her shadow. It had licked her body and brain with flames. She had bolted, overwhelmed and horrified by such great desire. Ashamed — unsure — of what she would have to tell Maegi.

So she had told no one anything. She had withered under a frenzied mind and still thought of everyone as if they still laid by her side. Cowardice was her sin, abandonment her crime.

When the temperature rose and a warm breeze ruffled her inked tufts, she thought of her shadow along her back. That evening had become one of those times. The land warmed by summer's arrival and any warmth on her spine was welcomed with thoughts of comfort.

She wondered if when the moon rose in the sky once more — something hours out still even if she anticipated it greatly — would she imagine Nona in the pales of light that poured down from the moon?
