Druid tended to be an easygoing, quiet child. But this heat made her irritable and restless. She could not find anywhere cool enough to settle, even in the shade. The den’s interior offered no respite; it was like walking into a sweltering oven. She paced, panted and whined, slumping down every now and again only to push upright again and continue her futile search for a reprieve from the heatwave.
